The most secure club in Europe

868

Ronny Deila has been talking about a treble since early in the season, far too early for my liking.  History suggests that trebles are notoriously difficult to win, even for dominant teams.  The league is usually won by the best team but it’s hard to win every game in two cup competitions, no matter how good you are.

Despite this, I’ll not bet against Ronny getting his wish.  He needs to win four games cup games, three of which would be at neutral Hampden, with only one game, the Scottish Cup quarter final, possibly being played away from home.

The cynic among you will, therefore, expect an away draw, possibly in some far-flung end of the country, like Inverness.  My money is on a trip to Easter Road.  I’ll be happy to avoid Tannadice, scene of our last defeat and a place they’re understandably feeling sort over the loss of Stuart Armstrong and Gary Mackay-Steven.

People of Kirkcaldy: that whole 1994-Ibrox thing, forget about it, we’re OK.

Well done to Celtic for highlighting their position as the least likely football team to financially default, according the US rating agency, Standards & Poor’s.  Commercial and ticket income across Scottish football has fallen in recent years but that was only going to result in Armageddon if those in charge of clubs put an inflated sense of their own importance ahead of paying bills.

See the photo above sent by Mary’s Meals last week of the school kitchen we funded at CQ10.  Work is already underway to raise funds for a fourth CQN kitchen in Malawi after the CQN11 St Patrick’s Dinner, on Friday 13 March at the Kerrydale Suite.  Email me for ticket, celticquicknews@gmail.com

I work, myself in IT as well, on the Oracle database side but I have done a little bit of Python myself.

The CodeAcademy site is good for learning it along with HTML, CSS, Javascript etc.

We’ll maybe hook it up this weekend and have a go.

  3. I think the Hibees will be getting into their annual Scottish Cup lather but this time perhaps with reason.

Should we not get through at Tannadice (gloom) I think maybe just maybe 2015 will be the year! I wonder though, promotion or the cup…which?

Well I can give you several good reasons why there won’t be a 16 team premier league at the end of this season…

    1. 30 SPFL league games are not enough – too big an income drop

    2. Every Championship team should know what they are playing for when the season starts – not find out what they achieved after it has ended.

    3. Top Championship Teams are looking forward to additional income from lucrative play off games.

Points above are seriously made – and thats before we even consider what will happen regarding “Arab Spring Version 2” if supporters of all SPFL clubs think they are being stitched up to only benefit Sevco.

    I think it isn’t going to happen…

I did say ` regular first team players ` 0:-)

Those who have made suggestions support my own view. We have quite a decent group of players here and if Ronny is as good as I believe he is, we could become a bit special. Our biggest problem is holding on to the van Djiks of this world. Not easy to do in Scotland.

  11. Bhoys targeting derby victory http://www.celticfc.net/news/7627

CELTIC’S Development Side will be aiming to build on last week’s win over Dunfermline and close the gap on league leaders Hamilton tonight when they face Partick Thistle.

The young Hoops sunk the Pars last week 3-0 at Airdrie’s Excelsior Stadium and they’ll be targeting another victory against their Glasgow rivals at the same venue.

Stevie Frail’s side occupy fourth spot in the table, trailing current pacesetters Accies by 18 points, having played five games fewer.

However, defender Eoghan O’Connell and the rest of the Bhoys are confident of closing the gap and winning a sixth successive title.

“We are a few points behind in the league but we have games in hand, so hopefully we can claw that back and win as many games as we can,” he told the official website.

“Being at Celtic you have to be confident as going into every game you want to win and we know we can do it. We have been on a decent run lately and if we can keep that going we should be alright.”

  12. Celtic will have the same problems as the likes of Dortmund, Ajax etc.

You are constantly in transition because of the economics of football. You build a solid team and it won’t be long til they are headed to England. You sell your transfer hits and are struggling to offload your misses.

Sooner or later you are developing young talent for the european elite just so you can get decent players (Denayer etc)

Dortmund sold Sahin 2010/11, then Kagawa 2011/12, then Gotze 2012/13 , then Lewandowski 2013/14 and it will be Reus 2015/16. The constant reshuffling has had an effect.

  13. Dontbrattbakkinanger on

    I like Izzy

he has the best side shed in world football.

If he didn’t get injured when he did he would have been sold-probably to England, and instead of watching him motor down the wing we’d be polishing his memory.

When you watch a Celtic player you have to love their flaws, because without flaws they’d be playin’ for Bayern.

I don’t think being one of the most financially secure clubs is something to be shouting from the rafters when we are playing in front of half empty stadiums to be honest.

If anything, it probably re-affirms some of the decision making paths the half sitting at home have taken in the belief our club has been on a spiral of downsizing for years now.

I believe the product on the pitch is better than it was last season and has been but in contrast to most Celtic teams throughout our illustrious history – it is still very poor by comparison.

  22. Someone said that only one of Ronnys signings faced sevco, add S.Armstrong & GMS

and i think we are in for an exciting few years(hopefully), as the Gaffer & his backroom bhoys build a team.

I think there is a real possibility of us truly building one that will stay together for a few years, of course we will lose those that want to move on but I see the start of young home talent who just love it here starting to show,

The rollercoaster that is Celtic is up and running :)))

  23. Gary67

Do you think we’ve seen enough of Tonev, Wakaso and Scepovic to judge, a wee run of games did Nir Biton the world of good, I’m tired of us bringing players in and we never see them really.

Tonev in particular look liked a pretty intelligent player to me..

Wakaso is a centre mid we played him out on the wing?

Seen enough of Tonev. Wakaso isn’t a winger and whilst he is probably a decent central midfielder we have them In abundance who are better than him. Scepovic is another from the Celtic scouting team’s striker production line.

Can’t find that post, but someone said BBC were showing a sevco game at some point, and my comment was…. “It’s awe they could afford …!!!!” ……..I’ll get my coat

If we haven’t seen Wakaso play centre mid for Celtic how do we know??

I think Ronny will keep Scepovic and me personally I would give Tonev a chance, think there’s a player there.

    In Ronny we trust.
