THE-ONE-AND-ONLY JAMES FORREST

JAMES FORREST is the SOLITARY Celt who will be available for selection against RB Leipzig tomorrow night from the Hoops team that beat the Bundesliga outfit 2-1 at Parkhead almost four years ago.

On November 8 2018, the evergreen winger played his part along with 12 team-mates utilised by Brendan Rodgers throughout the evening.

Callum McGregor also performed against the Germans, but, of course, the inspirational skipper was injured in the Red Bull Arena last week and now faces at least 10 games on the sidelines with a right knee injury.

THE EVERGREEN JAMES FORREST…the Celtic winger takes on an RB Leipzig opponent in Celtic’s 2-1 win almost four years ago.

Forrest, who played the remaining 15 minutes after replacing Matt O’Riley in the 3-1 loss in Germany last week, was hooked in the 83rd minute by Rodgers with the defensive-minded Youssouf Mulumbu taking his place as the Hoops saw out the game to claim three points in their Europa League match.

The 31-year-old Scotland international is under contract at the champions until June 2025.

It’s extraordinary to note how much the Celtic line-up has changed over such a relatively short space of time.

The goalscorers that evening are now plying their trade in the English top flight – Kieran Tierney with Arsenal and Odsonne Edouard with London rivals Crystal Palace.

Ryan Christie is also in the Premier League with Bournemouth and, ironically, scored the winning goal against Rodgers’ struggling Leicester City at the weekend.

PARADISE…Callum McGregor, Craig Gordon, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Tom Rogic acknowledge the Celtic fans after the 2-1 win over the Bundesliga side.

Norwegian international Kristoffer Ajer is with Brentford and was in the team hammered 5-1 by Newcastle, managed by former Parkhead target Eddie Howe, at St James’s Park on Saturday.

Aussie international midfielder Tom Rogic has just joined Championship outfit West Brom while Scott Sinclair, released by Preston at the end of his contract, is training with former club Chelsea as he looks for a new club.

Goalkeeper Craig Gordon is now captain of Hearts and played in the 2-2 draw with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park yesterday while Mikael Lustig, Dedryk Boyata, Filip Benkovic and Mulumbu are playing in Sweden, Belgium, Italy and France respectively.

The line-up against RB Leipzig back in 2018 was: Gordon; Lustig, Boyata, Benkovic, Tierney; McGregor, Christie; Forrest (sub: Mulumbu 83), Rogic, Sinclair (sub: Ajer 89); Edouard.
