The opportunity to get players we otherwise couldn’t afford

375

EBTs “Gave us the opportunity to get players we otherwise couldn’t afford.”

With those words in the Glasgow High Court witness box yesterday, Sir David Murray laid bare the sporting advantage question of Rangers EBTs. EBTs gave Rangers a sporting advantage. If the loans were illegally executed, the club gained an illegal sporting advantage.

At the time of the Lord Nimmo Smith Commission the payments were regarded as legal, the Commission therefore ruled that no illegal sporting advantage was gained, as any other club could have acted in the same manner. The Supreme Court will have the final say on the legality later this year.

You and I know better than to hazard a guess as to which way that decision will go, but it will be worth tuning in for.

That aside, former vice-chairman of Rangers, Donald Findlay, representing former chairman of Rangers, Craig Whyte, appeared to enjoy questioning Sir David, another former chairman of Rangers, more than old Zsa Zsa in the witness box enjoyed being questioned.

Win a chance to play on Celtic Park this Monday, 1 May 2017

I expect the number of us who have pulled on a Celtic shirt and played at Celtic Park will be very few, but………

There is a club sponsors’ game on the hallowed turf this Monday, 1 May 2017, and those incredible people at Intelligent Car Leasing have given me one of their places in the line-up.

We have an ebay auction here for the spot, benefiting your very own Celtic FC Foundation. It was launched a few moments ago and ends tomorrow around noon, so the number of bidders will be limited.

You will enjoy the whole playing at Celtic Park experience, just as Quinn, McGrory, Johnstone, McNeill, Dalglish and Larsson did before you. You will make fantastic memories, you’ll bore your friends with the photos for months. You will look back on this when you account for the great moments in your life.

Celtic kit will be provided, although you’ll need to bring your own boots and shin guards.

Opportunities like this come along when the pitch is about to be replaced, and that happen only twice in the previous 20 years.

This is a 24 hour listing and the clock is ticking. Bid for yourself, or for someone special.

  4. I know I get stick in here from some members of the “Clique”,but sometimes I just have to have a laugh at them.”There is no chance Scott Brown will have his appeal upheld”They cried.I said nothing.”We will not be allowed to win the game against the Hun in the Scottish cup”I said nothing..”Celtic will win 4,0 on Saturday”,the more exuberant among them tell us.I say nothing.I listen,I laugh,I agree,I dispute.

  14. Brogan Rogan Trevino and Hogan on

At a function last night I was told that a director of one SPFL club (not Celtic) is astonished that the current incarnation of the club which plays at Ibrox continues to trade. Losses are estimated at £800k per month with no sign of abating and everything points to a desperate scramble to introduce never ending emergency loans.

  15. I PROMISE !

i promise not to go on and on and on , and I am NOT trying to be a smart arse BUT,

I have not fully read back yet on this thread but, a couple of posters ( rightly or wrongly ? ) have expressed their concerns that other teams ( especially the Huns) will now assault Celtic players with impunity, after Broonys successful appeal ?

Given those concerns ( which I share), and for all we know perhaps some at Celtic also share especially since Broonys appeal ?

Last week on here I was suggesting that Celtic FC should have an “in place Directive” to take our players off the pitch, if opposing players are seen to be deliberately assaulting our Bhoys and escaping appropriate punishment etc /

Some on here claimed it was ” A STUPID” suggestion ??????

They are entitled to their opinion of course, as I am ( without being called stupid !)

However, in light of Broonys appeal, i believe that Celtic FC employees are NOW in the firing line , and at risk of serious injury and being red carded for defending themselves etc, more than EVER before…..or am I STILL being “Stupid” ?

After the assault on Wee paddy by Halliday in the first 3 minutes last sunday ( deemed only a yellow ???)……what if Celtic had lost that game ?…..I gaurantee that ALL those who called my suggestion “Stupid” BEFORE the game, would have been going feckin tonto on Sunday afternoon and Monday and beyond on here.

Now before tmorra’s ” match”……I hope that Celtic FC have considered all possible options open to the Club to protect their employees….or is that too much to ask for some on here ?

    Big Jimmy,

While I agree that managers with the support of their board should remove the team from the pitch if he considers the players are not being properly protected by the match officials, however I don’t believe this Pedro geezer will send his team out to maim, so unlike previous managers there will not be a concerted or co-ordinated effort to damage us. That’s not to say bitter team members won’t take matters into their own hands.

  18. Morning all

A lot of good press for Callum McGregor following his semi final goal. But here is a (still young) player who has been asked to be adaptable all through his career, and has found a way to carve a role for himself. Rodgers is now playing him centrally and although not quite good enough to displace Brown or Armstrong full time, the evidence is he is not learning resistant and will continue to develop. Hope you enjoy Callum McGregor getting the By Numbers treatment:

  19. Extract from Daily sevco today…Is this Pedro taking the same feckin DRUGS as the Bulls ?

Caixinha said: “You are seeing someone who is clear, frontal and open but everyone has his own limit. When I feel I am not being respected I’m not going to respect. I’m polite, I’m educated but I’m a f***ing tough guy.”

On the issue of his squad he pointed at the club crest on his T-shirt and insisted he has to believe his team and his players are the best in the business.

He said: “What I said is that when I’m defending my club – the way I’m defending Rangers now – they are the best club in the world. My board and my management are the best in the world so that also means that my players and my squad are the best in the world.

“I have explained this since the very beginning. They give the best in the world and they give the best in Scotland. It’s clear now?

I would never dream of calling you or anybody else for that matter stupid.

However I cannot agree that we should contemplate walking off the park. I have already given my reasons why I think think this is a non starter.

But what makes you think that our players are so weak they cannot fight fire with Fire. If they want to mix it , then fine. I’m sure we can take care of ourselves quite comfortably.

Bring it on. We should never fear a bunch of nonentities.

Since last week when I first suggested Celtic players being taken off, I have NEVER accused nor suggested that the Celtic Bhoys are incapable of looking after themselves, for one simple reason….I believe that they can look after themselves, however You could be the biggest, toughest guy walking about…IF some sneaky wee feckin coward hides behind a refs apron/skirt by taking cheap shots, that are almost impossible to see coming….then it doesn’t matter how tough you are /

i also never accused ANY Celtic player of being scared of that mob, or any other mob.

These current Celtic Bhoys are on the verge of an historic TREBLE, on the verge of the most successful ( Invincibles ?) season since The Bhoys from Lisbon 1967,

Surely The CLASS of 2016/017 deserve the right not to be seriously injured, and/or suspended IF they got involved against THEM tomorrow ?

    That’s all I am asking……Celtic FC..PROTECT OUR bHOYS !
