The opportunity to get players we otherwise couldn’t afford

EBTs “Gave us the opportunity to get players we otherwise couldn’t afford.”

With those words in the Glasgow High Court witness box yesterday, Sir David Murray laid bare the sporting advantage question of Rangers EBTs. EBTs gave Rangers a sporting advantage. If the loans were illegally executed, the club gained an illegal sporting advantage.

At the time of the Lord Nimmo Smith Commission the payments were regarded as legal, the Commission therefore ruled that no illegal sporting advantage was gained, as any other club could have acted in the same manner. The Supreme Court will have the final say on the legality later this year.

You and I know better than to hazard a guess as to which way that decision will go, but it will be worth tuning in for.

That aside, former vice-chairman of Rangers, Donald Findlay, representing former chairman of Rangers, Craig Whyte, appeared to enjoy questioning Sir David, another former chairman of Rangers, more than old Zsa Zsa in the witness box enjoyed being questioned.

Win a chance to play on Celtic Park this Monday, 1 May 2017

I expect the number of us who have pulled on a Celtic shirt and played at Celtic Park will be very few, but………

There is a club sponsors’ game on the hallowed turf this Monday, 1 May 2017, and those incredible people at Intelligent Car Leasing have given me one of their places in the line-up.

We have an ebay auction here for the spot, benefiting your very own Celtic FC Foundation. It was launched a few moments ago and ends tomorrow around noon, so the number of bidders will be limited.

You will enjoy the whole playing at Celtic Park experience, just as Quinn, McGrory, Johnstone, McNeill, Dalglish and Larsson did before you. You will make fantastic memories, you’ll bore your friends with the photos for months. You will look back on this when you account for the great moments in your life.

Celtic kit will be provided, although you’ll need to bring your own boots and shin guards.

Opportunities like this come along when the pitch is about to be replaced, and that happen only twice in the previous 20 years.

This is a 24 hour listing and the clock is ticking. Bid for yourself, or for someone special.

Stop telling people to let things go. You brought up the Efe thing and now you’re telling people to let it go.

  3. Delighted that Efe gets a Championship winners medal.

Pretty sure that Hibs’ last game is before ours so presumably Efe then comes back to us, just in time to join in the trophy celebrations on the last day. With summersaults a plenty!

The one really disappointing thing about this season ( probably the only disappointing thing) is Brendans blind spot when it comes to arguably the most important position on the team

    SCAPEGOAT

We really havent had a proper scapegoat since Efe left

James Forrest used to be a decent scapegoat but Brendan has turned him in to something else.

Leigh Griffiths lifestyle briefly threatened to see him emerge as a leading contender for the position but again Brendan intervened

Our only hope of a scape goat at present seems to be Sviatchenko but even he can flatter to deceive in that position

Its crucial we get in a proper trustworthy scapegoat before the Champions League qualifiers

    Over to you Peter Lawwell

Or will we be left clutching at straws and hoping that MacKay Steevens can do a job for us

  5. Watching the Citeh v United game. The Coty fans don’t deserve the team that they have. Loads of empty seats with swuillions of pounds of talent on the field. The atmosphere is slmost funereal. I bet their players wish they were playing for Celtic.

Could you please forward that post to Paddy Roberts!

Brendan hasn’t selected Efe since July and made him surplus to requirements. I agree entirely, do you? Does that mean those that criticised him were correct?

Are those that criticised Bitton correct? I didn’t see him on the pitch on Sunday.

  8. No harm to Efe, i wish him the best and I’m sure everyone else does. I haven’t seen or heard of a Celtic fan who doesn’t.

Efe doesn’t deserve his award or should just get the usual ‘bombscare’ ‘heart attack’ material posts when he’s already away to another club?

I say it let it go like we did him.

Wasn’t it you that posted the appeal was ‘ludicrous’ trying to have it reduced to yellow?

    If not apologies somebody did.

However yellow it is and because you thought it was red doesn’t turn the appeal into the nightmare scenario you dreamt up.

  10. Any player that wears the hoops deserves our total support, no critisism required, if they leave the club they are fair game, but while they are our players if they do the best they can, as we should do also.

    Just my humble opinion.

Firstly, i didn’t say anything about making the appeal. So yes, i accept your apologies. If you disagree with my post, fine, but don’t tell me to let it go. It happened only hours ago.

Secondly, i didn’t say anything about his award, or him being a bombscare or heart attack material. How you’ve come up with that, I’ve no idea.

  12. Feed The Bear. Brings many memories of times in The Jungle in the sixties. The excitement when Yogi got the ball and headed for goal. And invarioubly lost it, but many times scored or created a scoring chance for others. A heavier version of Jinky.

  13. Watching MU V MC game in pub and if it wasn’t for the beer and the fact that if I was at home the wife would make me attend a residents committee meeting, I would be out of here.

Truly turgid football. Mourinho has his latest “formation falling down” team impeccably drilled as ever.

I would agree with Brendans position on the player

Wish him all the best in his future career.

He was never the same after the disaster game against Juventus when he flew back from the African Championships.

Up until that night he looked like he would be player of the year

I am too wise to have them anywhere near me, the wife likes to keep up to date with village politics. I find these meetings turn into bitching sessions and then the “proper” people of the village start looking for volunteers to do the manual Labour from “other” residents.

No matter how much Sky try to add lustre to that cow pat of a game, it was still dreadful.

    ManU a disgrace to football.

  20. EPL has become the equivelant of wee boys playing the latest FIFA game on the Play Station. Gather players who most have no idea who they are. A collection of mercenaries who we are told by Sky are good because they cost stupid money. 3 of the starting 22 English, no wonder their national team is crap, no one gets a game with the possible exception at Spurs. Dreadful game. Fat, lazy and stupid League.

At one point in the second half it seemed that Man City didn’t actually want to attack. They passed side to side but never trying to hit the danger areas.

On one breakaway attack Man U had 7 behind the ball while 3 attacked.

They slag Scottish football but that was shocking.

Hello again all you young rebels.

Loved the piece on CTV about the Argentinian brothers Sebastian

and Geronimo Ongarelli’s first visit to Celtic park, they looked awestruck

and as someone who in my lifetime has ( maybe :-)) covered a million miles

to follow the bhoys it’s so gratifying to see young lhads from other parts

of the world with the same passion for our club.

I know they had some contact with the Green Brigade members and as you

know i love a story about how people become attached to the Celts so if

anybody has had the chance to find out about them and their CSC could

they post it on here please i know we would love to hear it.

  23. Gary67 – a very accurate summation. It’s dreadful stuff in the EPL.

I spent 20 minutes asking my son who the different players were. United in particular are bang average.
