The Patrick and Leigh Show

782

Whenever Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts were on the ball last night, Lincoln Red Imps sensed danger. Both could control instantly, control with little space and disorientate defenders. Leigh and Patrick aside, the rest had an excellent first half. Passing was crisp, accurate and fast.

The shape of the team, with variously Lustig, Brown, Tierney and Shevchenko operating in a moveable back three, allowed players to find space between Red Imps’ 5-4-1.

These games are not about impressing anyone, they are about getting into the next round, but the tie was over by halftime, allowing Celtic to step the pace down, and Red Imps to show that they were more than they appeared to be in the first half.

Stiffer tests lie ahead, when more will need to perform at the levels of Patrick and Leigh.

    I don’t want a transfer tonight.

Unless its the best centre in the world.

The old huns hold the record semi final defeat in the European cup.

    I love that fact.

So – it seems as if there has been almost no backing for the Manager in terms of improvements to the playing squad to help us get past another tricky European qualifying knockout tie.

Appreciate the complications in getting players that will improve the team in to Celtic, but nevertheless, that is doubtless disappointing for him and us.

Hopefully BR is good enough to make the improvements necessary in the squad that we have from last year to get us through – otherwise it is another missed opportunity.

Me and Wee BGFC think we will do it !!!

Jimmynotpaul, I started back yesterday but never had the same feeling about returning to work as you did. Your return was definitely a step forward , my return gave me a reason to indulge in my favourite hobby, moaning.

    Definitely bed time

BR can only do so much with the perennial bottlers. Same ole same ole with helping him out. Whilst the team give you so much joy the suits just cut you down at every opportunity

  6. SAINT STIVIS:

SFA chief executive Stewart Regan said the role “requires a different style of leadership and focus”.

Aye, so does running being CEO.

I see his pencils are still on his desk though.

Watching the highlights of the Rangers meltdown earlier, I couldn’t help notice how many of the hacks were talking about he and Doncaster had wrecked the game with the way they’d handled the situation. Alex Thomson, who made the most sense, was especially scathing. A lot of the clubs were said to be considering votes of no confidence.

It’s an almighty tragedy that they never came to pass, for the pair of them.

We’ve all been paying for it ever since.

  7. We have known since the end of May that Erik Sviatchenko was the only fit and definitely centre half we had in the squad. We knew back then that Simunovic and Boyata would be unavailable for CL qualifiers due to injury. We knew Mulgrew hadn’t signed a new contact and the likelihood was he would be a free agent. We know Efe is an accident. Waiting to happen and cannot be relied on, coupled with the fact he wants to go to the Olympics with Nigeria.

Brendan Rodgers was appointed on 20th May, two months ago.

Leaving qualifying rounds deadlines aside, why the hell have we not signed a centre half when we knew two months ago we only had one? Doesn’t matter who we’re playing next week, or what competition its in, we need a centre half and we needed one two months ago.

A vote of no confidence is the easiest route for a board or a members group to take.

Why it doesn’t happen within Scottish football organizations continues to bamboozle me.

Maybe Celtic are simply living within our means .

    Revolutionary concept I know.

  11. I was at both of those Hun games.I went up to the Fiorentina game with my big mate whos father owned a chip shop in Paisley Rd.The Bratisanis, mad Fiorintina fans.I went to see Kurt Hamrin, the Ronaldo of his day. That was great, but the Eintracht game was the best.I am sure the Huns went a couple of goals up,and they were going mental, till the Germans stuck 6 past them.I also saw Puskas score at Ibrox, another hero to me as a kid,and Madrid won 6-0 at home.Saw Spurs gub them, with John White in the team.I only lived at Govan Cross, and to be able to walk up,get a lift over and see some of my then heroes was wonderful. The results helped, because at that time,we did not have a great deal of success against them.Always gubbing us.

I have some great memories of the Huns in Europe.

  12. MACJAY1 FOR NEIL LENNON:

Oh my God … then WHY EVEN BOTHER appointing Rodgers in the first place?

Why even BOTHER trying to sign English based players?

Of COURSE we are trying to “live within our means.” We have been for YEARS.

Listen, these players are the ones the manager has identified. If they are unrealistic, how hard was it to find that out?

  13. If only clubs would just roll over and sell us their players exactly when we want them. Not to mention agents who want the best for themselves and maybe even their player

BR wants players but unfortunately it takes a lot of ducks to be lined up

    HH

  14. anyone think BR maybe isn’t in total control of the team . Surely a manager of his pedigree , wouldn’t have accepted the job unless he was in full control . Surely others aren’t stifling his authority . Unthinkable is it not , then again .

So would you say a football club running on a turnover of £40 to £50 million per annum paying £1 million out in an annual remuneration to a CEO is a good example of “living within our means”.

If we must cut the cloth on the park, we should be doing it elsewhere too. Starting in the boardroom.

    Two months of Rodgers.

    That`s all.

We had two years of purgatory with Deila .

After that , I`m prepared to be patient.

YEARS of living within our means , you say.

    I`ve had a lifetime.

    How about you ?

    How about the huns ?

  18. Euro or World Cup years are always harder for recruitment. Inflated prices. Inflated interest. Players not available for discussions etc

Did you ever see a handsome ?

  20. Pig sick at no signing of a CH.This is totally unacceptable.I cannot believe a loan deal for Toure could not have been thrashed out.Far too much time,if reports are to believed, wasted on Sinclair, who,in my opinion,we did not need at this juncture. One bloody signing to help us try and get a result next week, good God,how bad does it get.Who partners Eric now,Lustig?.Untried.Efe,tried and failed, many times. The rest are just raw, untried kids.

    I really despair.

  21. yes, it is complicated getting in a player who will be a significant improvement on what we already have within our budget and by 20th July. The deadline is ours and not the selling club’s.

I don’t believe people really think that peter lawwell does these things out of spite, or lazyness or incompetence, I can’t get my head around people thinking that’s what motivates him

When it comes to transfers people don’t want to accept reality, football is an emotional game, it makes the most rational people behave like children, and transfers seem to bring out the worst of it. We really want a new CB for the next round, and we don’t want to have to think about the reasons why it might not have been possible or why it might be a complicated set of circumstances that have meant we haven’t been able.

we’ve all complained about the standard of players we’ve bought recently, I’m as worried as the next person about our lack of options at CB, but I’m glad we aren’t getting someone in for the sake of it. I’d rather we waited than make the same mistake we have over and over recently

  22. We should have offered Mulgrew a new contract, he would have fitted into the left of the back three in the three man defence BR seems to prefer. We could at least be going to Kazakhstan next week with an experienced back line who you would have confidence in and not worrying if it’s Efe, a kid or someone out of position in defence.
