The Patrick and Leigh Show

782

Whenever Leigh Griffiths and Patrick Roberts were on the ball last night, Lincoln Red Imps sensed danger. Both could control instantly, control with little space and disorientate defenders. Leigh and Patrick aside, the rest had an excellent first half. Passing was crisp, accurate and fast.

The shape of the team, with variously Lustig, Brown, Tierney and Shevchenko operating in a moveable back three, allowed players to find space between Red Imps’ 5-4-1.

These games are not about impressing anyone, they are about getting into the next round, but the tie was over by halftime, allowing Celtic to step the pace down, and Red Imps to show that they were more than they appeared to be in the first half.

Stiffer tests lie ahead, when more will need to perform at the levels of Patrick and Leigh.

  1. Complete and utter nonsense talked about transfer dealings.

FACT 1 We don’t have the income to buy a player at ANY cost.

FACT 2 We don’t have a wage structure to pay a player at ANY cost.

FACT 3 The window has only been open for twenty days – a third of total.

FACT 4 We have just recently seen the Euros finish.

FACT 5 It has been holiday time for most in the football environment.

FACT 6 There may have been multiple bids submitted by Celtic – some rejected, some being considered.

FACT 6 Players will want to weigh up all offers for as long as possible.

FACT 7 Agents will want to weigh up all offers for as long as possible.

FACT 8 Players will be discussing moves with their families.

FACT 9 If under contract, players, agents and club will need to thrash out pay off for remaining contract period.

FACT 10 Will player want to come to Scotland.

We are not ManCity, ManUtd, Chelsea, Arsenal or Liverpool – we can’t buy off problems and objections.

Bournemouth, because of EPL status can buy from Liverpool for ÂŁ15m – add on four years wages and this becomes a ÂŁ30m package for one player.

Our forays into the transfer market, unless we are bringing in frees and players that no one wants, will most times be convoluted – anyone who argues differently is mischief-making.

  3. What is the Stars on

    Owen

There will be a loan deal with option to buy

There will be a player who is not scottish and one of those coming in will have an S in his name

    Is that enough…..

Of course there will also be last minute hitches and deals will fall though but we will get our “first choice” player who has been attracting our managers attention for the last 15 years ( beleive it or not)

All or some of the above may be true

  4. Could this be the worst result in Hearts` history? At least we were away from home 0:-)

  5. Before the penalty shoot-out in Denmark, the referee has the two captains together, shows them the coin, then points alternatively at each goal area, clearly indicating that he is going to toss the coin to decide which end the penalties will be taken.

Hibs win that one. He then tosses again to decide who takes the first kick.

Michael Stewart: Is it the best of three here for the toss? Snigger snigger.

When they all move towards the left-hand goals, he says: Are they happy now? Snigger.

If the man had a brain he’d be dangerous.

  7. MATS NILLOC:

You’re an absolutely boring dolt, you know that?

Fact 1: No-one said we did. Only a moron thinks we need clueing in on that.

Fact 2: No-one said we could. See above.

Fact 3: That fact doesn’t seem to have overly affected other clubs. Even those spending big sums.

    Fact 4: See Fact 3.

Fact 5: See Facts 3 and 4. Lazy answer. Lazy lazy lazy stuff.

Fact 6: And there may not. You are reaching now. It’s pitiful. The only criteria that matters – which is WHY we’re even having the discussion – is HOW MANY DEALS ARE DONE?

Fact 7: We haven’t got as far as finding out because no bids have been accepted.

    Fact 8: See Fact 7.

Fact 9: See Fact’s Eight and Seven.

Fact 10: We could find that out in FIVE MINUTES … by asking.

Call me mischief making all you like. I love Celtic. That’s my excuse.

You, as I said earlier, are a boring dolt.

    What’s yours?

Ok Mr Pastry, in a moment of weakness,as I am tired, I will bite.

Leave aside the fact that there are 2 fact 6s.

The first fact 6 says There may have been multiple bids.

    When did may,become fact?

    Surely a contradiction of terms.

  15. Watching the young Celts tonight, great performance.

What’s the script re transfer deadline and signing targets? Anyone with any update info worth reading about?

We must be talking about the same player because he has an E also

My source is a part time doorman on the Launderette in Crumlin,Dublin 12,his mother was once head kit washerwoman for a scotttish club and she became very friendly with an assistant boot shiners son who has been a source of impeccable info for the last few years

  17. James Forrest –

    On the contrary.

I have seen you on more than one occasion abuse a reader who posted a comment to one of your articles. In no way were they abusive to you. They simply called into question something you had written.

I love your articles and never miss them, but you need to be able to accept that sometimes people will disagree with you.

  18. Mats talking about nonsense you made a post earlier saying that if Villa sold us Sinclair they would have had to pay up Sinclair to the end of his contract. On that basis he would be getting double wages for next 2 years with both Villa & Celtic paying him and I suppose if it didn’t work out with us and we sold him on, he might have 3 Clubs paying his wages.

I have no doubt Sinclair might get a wedge out of any transfer fee but if he signed for Celtic his contract with Villa ends there & then.

  19. KEVINLASVEGAS:

That was me doing levity :)

Actually, this blog’s never ending comedy act (I won’t use his name, he hogs enough of this place) actually posted a link to something pretty funny earlier. I was amusing myself listening to some Clyde “highlights” to remind me why I no longer waste brain cells on it.

Some of that was pretty hilarious … but not have as much as this :)

  21. AULD TAM:

I love people arguing with me. But the people you refer to often have a long history of being abusive to me.

And yeah, I occasionally let myself down.

But as you’ll have gathered at times, I do love a debate. Nothing beats it.

  22. I was marshalling at Carnoustie today and all except one of the professionals who walked past were either neutral or friendly/polite. The one who was a bit less so was not outrageously bad, he was just a bit `precious` .

    Any guesses?

    JJ

  23. Mr Pastry

You are a bit of a twat that thinks he is clued up, but in reality knows feck all about anything if your posts are anything to go by, even your cut and paste is shoddy.

I reckon you work for the record.

    Sleep well
