The precious commodity

391

I’m pretty sure Players’ Player of the Year rules oblige nominees to come from more than one club, allowing players the opportunity to vote for at least one opponent, instead of a team-mate. That being the case, we will probably see a token Aberdeen player on the list alongside the Celtic nominees.

This award, voted by the professionals, has been dominated by Celtic players for a lot longer than the league title itself. Di Canio, McNamara, Larsson (twice), Viduka, Sutton, Hartson, Maloney, Namakura, McGeady, Brown, Izaguirre, Mulgrew, Commons, Johansen and Griffiths make an incredible 16 Celtic winners in the last 20 years.

The current holder missed the chance of defending his title after an early season injury kept him out of the team, then the irrepressible form of Moussa Dembele made Leigh’s chances of a sustained run unlikely.

Moussa, alongside Kieran Tierney, are likely to be nominated for both Player and Young Player of the Year. Stuart Armstrong’s late season form may see him nominated, while Tom Rogic’s early season form deserves a shout, but all electorates have notoriously short memories, so Stuart stands a better chance than Tom.

Scott Sinclair has been the transformational element in Scottish football this season. His speed of thought and control are exceptional. He was the player who Celtic battered defences into submission early in the season as Celtic picked up from some nervy European qualification performances, and transformed into a well-oiled machine.

Scott’s performances in his debut season in Scottish football reminds me of a former PotY winner’s debut season. Both arrived as support forwards in their mid 20s. They share the same speed of thought. This instant the ball arrives(d) in their vicinity, the next phase is already underway.

I remember commenting during the season that stopped the 10 that Henrik Larsson was “precious” to Celtic. It was clear he was having a huge impact on the team, but Jackie McNamara and Craig Burley outshone him for many as they picked up the Players’ and Writers’ trophies respectively that season. Henrik’s true talent was still unfolding.

Scott Sinclair’s impact this season has been no less precious. For me he is the stand out Player of the Year.  Oh, and the nomination from Aberdeen, I suppose it has to be Ryan Christie, who steadied a stuttering Dons team and helped secure what will surely be second place.

Or does the continuing abusive treatment of Celtic staff inside Tynecastle not merit public comment.

Maybe Peter and the board laughed it off over a glass of Champers in the Hearts lounge.

So how would an independent Scotland deal with the annual deficit, which is more than twice as large as the UK deficit?

Would it raise taxes, cut public spending or a combination of both?

    Someone must know.

That was a UK wide vote, and the fact that the majority in Scotland voted to remain in the EU doesn’t entitle Sturgeon to claim that same vote was for another Independence referendum less than 4 years since the last one. She wasn’t too concerned about the democratic voice of Scotland then, as she and Salmond started agitating for the next one even before all the votes were in!

As for the will of the Scottish Parliament, she was happy to ignore it on other issues like the Act for Criminalising Celtic Supporters, so why should she complain when someone else does?

  5. Big Jimmy…

I got ballot papers through last week, they went straight in the bin. I no longer feel represented by my Union.

I feel so let down by there inaction and the way they say accept anything that is thrown our way, supposedly to safeguard your job!

People are turning there backs on them and to be honest…I can see why.

For me the unite became divided when the shop floor was amalgamated with the white collar workers. Just my opinion.

Ps…I still pay my dues although it sticks in my throat now.HH

I reckon a boxing match between the two of you could be a good charity winner.

Moonbeams haymakers might go for the quick knockout but the agile Ernie might dodge them and throw a few rapid into the ribs.

  12. FAO VFR, BEATBHOY ERNIE ( others ?),

I am fully aware of how the EU Ref went in that the “majority” voted to leave, however the truths are now emerging that many were duped !

i learned many years ago that the majority isnt always right.

As for the Scottish governments view on criminalising Celtic fans, I did state some hours ago that The SNP Government won’t get everything right.

For me this Brexit is nothing short of ” We arra peepil” mentality including the further racism and bigotry that it will no doubt bring.

if others are okay with that ( If I am right ?), then fine, I won’t lose any sleep over it at my age.

Maybe a very poor example coming up, but here goes…

Dr Crippen was found Guilty of murdering his wife, by a “Majority”…..it later transpired that there was no murder, as that same wife ( on reading about her husbands case from afar America/Canada ?), sent a letter to Churchill offering to return to Britain to obviously give evidence that she was in fact very much alive ?

All she asked for was the price of travelling by ship back to Britain, that she believed the British Government should pay for ?

She explained in her letter that she had fled Britain with her young lover, and her husband was therefore innocent……Churchill was apparently given the wife’s letter by a Government aide, and after reading it he stuck it in hi pocket, and it was never seen again ?

The reason given behind Churchill’s behaviour was/is that, due to the media’s demands ( which greatly influenced the British public including the Jury) that Crippen was Guilty, he decided that it was better to ” let sleeping dogs lie” ?

Apparently, Churchill was concerned about the LIKELY public outcry that the Police and the newspapers at the time had seriously DUPED them ” The Public” and The Court !

As I say, maybe not the best example of the majority getting it wrong, but nevertheless an example of how the public can be Duped !

sorry to hear that, but can I also mention that just before I was sacked, another employee was sacked just before me for the very same “offence” ( Medical).

This other employee not only won his case at Employment Tribunal, but was reinstated with all benefits, pension etc.

The difference between myself and this other employee is that he was Represented all the way by his Trade Union….The GMB !

In fact I was using his case at my Tribunal as an “Predecent” allied with all my other viable arguments ( 17 in total).

    UNITE are a feckin disgrace.

  14. Ding Ding….

Ernie comes out throwing a LEFT, moonbeams dodges it and throws a claymore shot at Ernie…its dodged as well. Phew.

They seem to be in discussions now…. Oh wait…Ernie circles the ring as moonbeams stands his ground….. A 1-2 from Ernie on moonbeams stomach but he comes back with a ferocious right hook, what a contest this is.

  15. BIG JIMMY, and anyone else interested, just found out there is a Breaking Bad movie just released. Its a 2 hour condensed version of the whole show, apparently its pretty good but ive not seen it yet. Its available on Kodi Movie apps. How they’ve managed to squeeze 62 episodes into 2 hours i dont know.

  16. Big Jimmy….

I’ve been through a lot of disputes since I was an apprentice.

  17. Round 3….

Ernie is locked in his corner taking massive hits from moonbeams……the slippery Ernie has escaped the corner whilst throwing counter shots at a rapid speed which moonbeams can’t deflect.

  19. just a final thought Bhoys,

Picture the scenario ( God Forbid)……

Maurice Johnston has been elected onto the Board of Celtic FC following a ballot/vote by all Celtic fans.

The MAJORITY of those who voted, decided that the Christian way to view this is to ” Live and let live” and also that God preaches “Forgiveness”, so we ( especially those of a Catholic Faith), should respect the preachings of God and go with the “Majority” ?

Mr Johnston’s first proposal is that Celtic should now change club colours from Green and White, to Red, White and Blue ?

Again, a vote is taken and the “Majority” of the Celtic Board agree and allow Mr Johnson’s proposal’s ( especially given Brendan’s most recent hope of Celtic and Rangers getting on better with each other) ? What better, than BOTH Celtic and Rangers play in the same colours ?

IF such a scenario ever occurred, how many on here would COMPLY with the “Majority” and continue to support Celtic ?

Back to player of the year.

Scott Sinclair. That wee bit of stardust he has changed so many games.

Young player. If not restricted to Scots, Moussa, if Scots only then Kieran.

What a lovely situation that every player in contention, in my opinion is a Celtic player. Honest I don’t think that every year, well ok. :-))

  27. I see Pedro has already announced his team selection 36 hours before KO !

The MSSM will do its utmost to portray him as a cavalier genius but if they fail to win their next two games ( very possible) , then I feel the Sevco support will begin to see him as a clueless clown.

I think if we lift the Cup and manage the feat of getting through the entire season unbeaten, the whole first team squad should win the POTY award.

Anyway, now back to interpretations of GDP/the national debt, Lee Wallace’s stomach and how Dr Crippen did not murder his wife despite feeling like it a bit because she voted Remain.

    wee smiley thing.
