There is worse to come

812

Neil Lennon said we didn’t deserve to lose 4-1, as we dominated large parts of the game against a team who have lost their last four games (not against Celtic), conceding 14 goals in the process.  But oh, Neil, we absolutely deserved to lose by at least that margin.

Our disorganisation is a marvel.  Scott managing to start his jump goal-side of a dropping ball and ending up wrong side.  Callum playing three onside.  Kris A. not committing to block the cross (forgiven, trying to cover two positions), Chris J. attempting to intercept with the wrong foot (forgiven, fitness).  Hatem reliving his Ferencvaros highlights.  Full backs who are never back and produce few assists; there is no defensive midfield, unless you count the goalkeeper who feels the need to leave his box and play that position, just a midfield of nomads.

The team is a collection of individuals unencumbered by a workable strategy.  Opposition managers have their game plan written: defend deep, play on the counter and put numbers forward at set-pieces.  If we could defend counter-attacks and corner kicks, we would be having a legendary season, but we can’t, so everyone looks awful.

In sport, if you have evident fatal flaws and persistently fail to resolve them, you deserve every setback that comes your way.  It is hard to recall a Celtic team that deserved to lose more.  Let me give you a cheery prediction, you will soon forget about last night, as there is worse to come.

Good morning from a wet North Staffs

Don’t buy this conspiracy to lose the league – at the moment we’re just poor.

    —————–

I mentioned last night that we love a good conspiracy theory on here.

But that one is just outrageous. (Even for me )

No hard feelings mate….might get a few myself. Enjoy 🥳

  3. Neil could easily drop more than half Thursdays team for Sunday’s game.

I would really, really love to see him do just that.

    HH.

  4. Results are only one part of the answer, Celtic are not playing as a team, the solutions as to why must be found by the Manager and the Coaches, winning every game in December which we wont would in my opinion be papering over the cracks, the reasons for the collapse this year need to be rectified, it starts on the training ground, the pitch and in the boardroom , in which order one and three for me, have we got it in ourselves within our employees and owners to reflect and change?

  5. GREENPINATA on 28TH NOVEMBER 2020 9:36 AM

Who would you like to see sit out?

I know Elhamed has had his dodgy moments in Europe but I think he can be forgiven as he’s had injury problems and been in and out of the side. Maybe a run of games would do him good.

Is Soro available again? Maybe he and Turnbull would provide the energy and willingness to prove a point that’s been lacking.

Ajeti needs minutes too. I wonder if this guy’s ever going to be fully “fit”. At £5m, we really needed him to hit the ground running.

  6. GREENPINATA

Would that be the wantaways? if so I’m with you.

Don’t think the moneybag board would be too happy.

  7. Good morning all from James McGrory land where it us a bit chilly.

MM – A great post sir. I was driving along that street with you there and I was in the pub in my mind. Brilliant.

Of course Celtic is what we support a club, an underdog story, a family.

Players, managers and the board come and go but us the supporters and our generations of family have been and will be here for our club.

As some say this is what our custodians some time take advantage of and it’s getting very frustrating.

We have a run of fairly easy games in the league coming up, well they would be normally. Maybe this is where we can get some consistency and continuity BUT I think it might be a step to far for Lenny and his coaching team. They have had a third of the league so far to do this and there is nothing, zilch, nada. 2 wins out of last 9 games Mowbray and Barnes had better records.

The board will act at the end of January when it’s to late and Lenny will be the sacrificial lamb. They will remain collecting their bounty.

    D :)

  8. MELBOURNE MICK on 28TH NOVEMBER 2020 9:41 AM

The wantaways concern me. After Ferencvaros, Neil Lennon called them out and I questioned then if it was the right thing to do. Maybe this should’ve come out after they were sold as unfortunately, no bids came in and they’re still here stinking out the dressing room.

I don’t know who these players are – some have speculated Christie, Eddie, Ntcham, and Ajer. Ntcham really does give the impression of someone who couldn’t care less.

The board was lauded for retaining our top players but maybe in January, it might be time to let one or two go and promote the likes of Soro, Walsh, Turnbull, Klimala…

Of course, these players aren’t as good but as Sevco are proving, hunger and a desire to play for the shirt can outweigh the perceived talent of our misfiring stars.

  9. GEEBEE 1978

Absolutely spot on, but the moneybag board won’t hear of

dropping potential multi million pound players.

    Sort of catch 22.

    H.H. Mick

  10. GREENPINATA on 28TH NOVEMBER 2020 9:32 AM

Do you think the board have been disingenuous about the 5 way agreement and the way they dealt with Res 12?

  11. Cognitive bias is a bitch isn’t it?

Ntcham can’t be assed versus CQN new duracel bunny favourite Laxalt..

Data from Thursday : “After barely playing over the past month, he won 16 of 23 duels, and 4 out of 4 defensive duels- neither of which are usually his strong suit. He was successful in all 4 dribbles, made 3 progress runs and setup Edouard’s big chance. He also completed 8 of 9 long passes, with 7 coming in just the 29 minutes he played next to McGregor after Brown was subbed (there’s a clue to our way forward in there).

In contrast, Laxalt won 12 of 26 duels and just 4 of 9 defensive duels. He gave away 4 fouls, lost the ball 11 times and was accurate on only 5 of 10 forward passes. He did finally have 1 of 4 accurate crosses, which takes his crossing in 4 EL games to 1 out of 17.

ONE SUCCESSFUL CROSS IN 17 ATTEMPTS……

The brain is a bugger. It sees what it wants to see.

  13. Bhoy From The Boyne on

Waking up this morning, 2 posts have with me from yesterday.

Gene’s post that we need to support NL while he is in the job and peat the best highlighting that Paul67 has called a lot incorrectly in his articles this season, which is true.

I am a stats man & the evidence this season doesn’t back up anything to suggest this will turnaround. Hope more than anything but can’t see anything positive the fans can do now other than support NL at this time. Board have stuck with NL for now so let’s get on with it. The fans can hold the board accountable for their incompetence later. Focus on the prize for now.

  14. And from the excelllent Celtic by Numbers, sometimes of this parish:

“Laxalt has a career assist rate of 0.13 per 90m and same with goals. His xA per 90 is lower than any Celtic full back bar Lustig. (Much lower than rightly derided Frimpong).

What did those who brought him in expect?”

Look, I like Laxalt and his all-action style but any decent opposition knows that you push us wide it won;t hurt them. Our system is impotent out wide.

Just more bonkers systemic decisions that have nothing to do with the ‘wantaway’ solution some have all their hopes pinned on.

    HH

  15. Big Wavy

So glad you posted that….cos my wee addled bonce was saying …. and saw:

Despite how much I think Ntcham’s demeanour has seemed off as have many recent performances, I thought he did some good things on Thursday.

And……much as I think Laxalt has been excellent, I thought Thursday was his ‘least good’ (poor English, Apols) for us thus far.

As for posters talking about dropping ‘wantaways’, it’s coaching and shape that this team is desperately crying out for.

21century mainly continental players not buying into 20 century British ‘lump em and hump em’ ‘tactics’.

Like Clough going to Leeds, except in reverse.

(The Damed United -what a filum!)

  16. Paul worse to come jeez surely it could not get any worse is psitol working his notice is Lenny and co. reaming until the next bad result?

How are you lonely boy? and family all good I hope.

I think the love of our club blinds us at times, and I get

what you’re saying, but it ‘s probably me, but if you want

to leave Celtic then you’re history as far as I’m concerned.

A bit too simplistic? well there you go.

  18. Bhoy From The Boyne on

I had a look at the zombies stats while they were on their crisis last Jan-March. Their xG average wasn’t as bad as ours currently. They had problems converting chances when Morelos went awol and similar issues to us now in the transition, i.e getting caught on the counter with poor positional structure. They have addressed this by more signing strikers and defenders with better positional play.

Can we do similar turnaround? Time will tell.

  19. GEEBEE1978 on 28TH NOVEMBER 2020 9:40 AM

    I would drop :-

    Bain

    Elhamed

    Ntcham

    McGregor

    Christie

    Elyounoussi

    And possibly Edouard.

Our manager is under the microscope, some of these big money players need to suffer the consequences of continual lethergic, insipid, under- achieving performances.

If Neil did this for the RC game, I would be right behind him. If NFL is staying the gloves must come off.

  20. Melbourne Mick…great post earlier about your travels and discovering Celtic pubs it’s amazing how often on my travels I have seen Celtic tops or Celtic memorabilia in the most unexpected of places on my own travels. Its amazing how it makes your heart swell even back in the early 90s when things were really bad you would still see our club everywhere.

I have had many cordial conversations with Auldheid on here. My admiration for the gang of four is on record.

However imo, we must move on. Rightly or wrongly, That particular boat has now drifted away.

We had our opportunity, collectively we didn’t seize it.

We move on and get our act right on the park.

Maybe not the reply you were looking for, but possibly expecting anyway.

  22. I have just received a call from 01241(My area code) 431912 purporting to be from BT and saying my Internet would be stopped in 24 hours as I was being hacked. The speaker had a well spoken English accent. I was told to press either 5 or 9 for more information. I did neither.

I dialed the 431912 number but it does not exist.

    Anyone know anything about this?

Can’t measure the coaching the zombies have done too but it is certainly there to see in their improvement. Our players are crying out for similar. You can see it in almost all the players from their decision making. Frimpong could be lethal for us if he was coached probably. Again, just hope the club are addressing the coaching side ASAP.

  24. Hot Smoked…often receive calls of a similar nature you obviously did the right think bu not responding was actually thinking of getting rid of my landline as the only calls I get on it are of that nature it’s amazing the stuff that comes up on your mobile now too..quite sinister that your number is shared so often with dodgy companies.

  27. Hot smoked I got a call from Virgin before the Huns game a few weeks ago saying my internet was not up to speed and as I had called them a couple of time the previous week I thought the call was genuine.

They managed after a few questions to hack my mobile phone just as I realised it was a scam and I had to transfer all of my on stash of cash to Mrsdavid66 (darn I was caught by her).

They took control of my phone for about 10 minutes and I could not turn it off or pull battery as it’s a sealed unit, eventually I got my phone switched off and when I switched on Barclays called me saying I had been hacked and a large sum of cash taken, I assured them I had transferred said cash and they then blocked all my bank accounts.

All is good now but beware these are real smart criminal barstewards.

Oh and Adi it wasnt my works phone.😂

  28. Hot Smoked @ 10:48

It’s a scam. I’ve had the same call from numerous different numbers over the last 6 months. Block the number and inform your phone/internet provider. Be prepared for the same message in future but from different numbers, block each one.

  29. Bhoy From The Boyne on

    Big Wavy,

I think the good news for us is that our xG can’t get much worse with attacking players we have. This NL team will never control games in the predictable nature that BR’s side and indeed the zombies do now.

NL’s team will always be very unpredictable. When it’s good it can border on the sublime in attacking play. But even a firing NL team would have us highly anxious this season and will do again if they drag themselves out of this phase. Organised chaos v’s current unorganised chaos as someone more knowledgable than me would phrase it.
