There will be goals

733

Dundee have played 12 games since losing 6-0 at Celtic Park in September, scoring in all but one of those occasions. Only Celtic and Aberdeen have kept them out in 21 games this season. They lost five last time out to Ross County (scoring twice), but scored four against Accies the week before. Season tickets at Dens are excellent value for money. There will be goals when Celtic visit tomorrow.

Kane Hemmings scored five of their six goals against County and Accies. He’s a direct player who makes runs from deep into space but a large portion of his goals come as a consequence of defensive errors. In short, he appears to run at defenders in anticipation of them making a mistake, not a wholly unproductive strategy for strikers playing against Celtic this season.

Ronny Deila will be keen Celtic build on the positives from Tynecastle, although the on-going absence of Leigh Griffiths will be a concern. I reckon we would have seen Carlton Cole at some point against Hearts if it were not for the plethora of injuries which restricted the manager’s options. Hearts had done their homework on Nadir Ciftci, who was well marshalled throughout. He can expect a similar night tomorrow.

Partick Thistle’s role in the title race will come into focus over the next week. They are on an excellent run ahead of tomorrow’s visit to Pittodrie at Saturday’s game at Celtic Park, having won their last four league games. You can win two Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand for Saturday’s game, courtesy of Magners, if you answer this question:

Who was the last Partick Thistle manager to win four consecutive top flight games?

Email your answer in the SUBJECT line to celticquicknews@gmail.com before 17:00 tomorrow (30th). My Partick Thistle knowledge is limited, so editors decision if final……

And if you are so minded, having read what you’ve done already for Mary’s Meals in 2015, you can donate a £1 or so towards them here. Many thanks…………

  1. here comes a statement ……………….

and, who in the ibrox board-room thinks there is nothing wrong with the Billy Boys chant.

  2. I see the Vanguard Bears have been busy issuing there statement….

“Everyone knows that the vast majority of Rangers supporters are from the PUL community. Monday’s rousing rendition of the Billy Boys, Derrys Walls etc leaves nobody in any doubt. The vast majority of Rangers fans are proud of their heritage and there is no better sight or sound than the Blue Sea of Ibrox declaring it’s love for that heritage and history. It is spine tingling, and it helps bring the PUL community together like nothing else on God’s fine earth. It is also the only reason the Nationalist Stazi are so eager to consign it to the history books. Whilst the Rangers fans are in full voice, rallying the Unionist cause, independence will never happen! Billy Boys is football’s equivalent of the Haka!”

  3. FFS, they reckon it was a minority

RANGERS believes it is appropriate at this time to remind everyone of the Club’s position on anti-social behaviour within football grounds.

The Club operates a zero tolerance policy and continues to work tirelessly via the Follow with Pride campaign while supporting all initiatives aimed at tackling this problem.

The football authorities and Police Scotland know the Club is committed to eradicating all forms of unacceptable behaviour and it is disappointing that a minority engaged in inappropriate singing during the match against Hibernian at Ibrox Stadium on Monday, December 28.

At every home and away pre-match operations meeting unacceptable conduct is included on the agenda with the attention of both the Police and Stewards drawn to the need to deal with this matter robustly.

The Club will assist Police Scotland in identifying those responsible for the unacceptable behaviour on Monday.

  4. ” It also doesn’t help right now that at least one member of the current Rangers board thinks that The Billy Boys is a tremendous song. This being the case, the club may well go backwards, not forwards.

On their dreaded songs issue, I hope this Rangers board go forward, not backward. I hope they are pro-active, not passive. I hope they acknowledge a potential threat, and don’t lapse into denial.

But, frankly, I’ll believe it when I see it. Banning writers who write about the issue is an ominous start.

It is now 39 years since Willie Waddell, then the Rangers general-manager, made an on-field public declaration which signalled an end to Rangers FC’s old anti-Catholic policy. I was there that day at Ibrox as a 12-year-old kid, though the fuss then was beyond me.

It remains my belief that, taking that day as a starting point, it will take 50 years for Rangers to fully flush out its bigoted baggage. There are pitfalls along that long road, as we witnessed again this week, but at least the journey is being taken. ”

  5. ………..that horrible mob can be as “anti-social” as they always have been………………it’s their bigotry and sectarian singing, as evidenced most recently in the Hibs game. which needs to be continually highlighted. We will never ever let them forget it ’till they finally and truthfully admit to themselves in full view of society what they are. Until then it is all just carefully worded spin and deflection.

  6. Spiersy is clever, he habitually errs on the positive as far as the huns are concerned – always pulls his punches, and when you consider the topic he is apparently covering – shameful.

  7. So we can now add ‘minority’ to the list of words of which they don’t know the meaning.

See ‘administration’ ‘liquidation’ ‘fit’ ‘proper’ ‘loan’ ‘founded’ ‘relegation’ ‘incorporation’. . . . .

I think you are being unfair on James forrest . he isn’t the only player not getting involved. As for ronnys tactics, well they seem non existent tonight. Dundee aren’t much better, zero possession, zero shots on target. Scottish football is rubbish

  14. Let’s applaud the Hun Monkeys for being staunch and defiant in the face of encroaching civilization.

Let’s encourage them further to protest their heritage loud and proud. In fact let’s hear them vary it a little and actively remind them they could replace the word ‘fenian’ with ‘Muslim’ now and then…

Let’s see how brave they really think they are. No surrender, indeed. Shitebags…
