‘THEY GET THEIR REWARDS,’ ANGE ON CONTRACT STARS

LIEL ABADA and Giorgos Giakoumakis are on the brink of signing extensions at the champions, as CQN reported yesterday.

However, Ange Postecoglou is remaining coy on contract talk concerning the Israeli wingers and the Greek powerhouse striker.

The Celtic boss was content to say: “The club always does the right thing with players and they’ll get looked after. In terms of individuals, I’m not going to talk about their situations.

“They get their rewards with their performances. Those kinds of things, as I keep saying, take care of themselves. They don’t need to worry about that side of it.”

Postecoglou, speaking to the Daily Record, added: “This football club looks after players. It has historically. Not just in terms of contracts, but in providing a platform.

“There are many football clubs you can play for and earn a lot more money, but you won’t be playing at the Bernabeu against Real Madrid.”

WALLOP…Liel Abada fires in one of his double that dumped the trounced Ibrox visitors during the champions’ 4-0 spree in September.

Abada and Giakoumakis are under contract until 2026, but reports insist discussions are ongoing about new five-year extensions that would keep them at the champions until at least 2027.

Postecoglou brought the players to Parkhead last summer as he revamped the first-team squad he had inherited from Neil Lennon.

Abada, 21, joined in a £3.5million switch from Maccabi Petah Tikva in July before 27-year-old Giakoumakis arrived the following month in a £2.5million move from Dutch outfit VVV-Venlo.

Both have been in goalscoring form in this campaign with Abada notching eight, including a first-half double in the 4-0 derby romp against Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s shell-shocked Ibrox side in September.

Giakoumakis is one behind and blew the opportunity to be equal with his frontline partner when he carelessly smacked a penalty-kick effort off the outside of the right-hand post in the champions’ 3-0 victory at Livingston on Sunday.
Both are likely to figure at some stage against Real Madrid tonight.
