Time for an inquest into fragile Celtic limbs

822

One of the things Neil Lennon may have on his agenda for the international break is an inquest into the physical condition of his playing squad.  The season is a month old and Celtic have an injury list which would wipe out pretty much every other team in the country.  If this was an isolated occurrence it would be no more than curious but we have written about, and discussed, the fragile limbs of Celtic players since the Lennoxtown Training Centre opened nearly five years ago.

Since then Celtic ‘lost’ (more on that at a later date) three leagues by a maximum of six points and lost valuable form and points due to first choice players sitting in the stands on match day.

On Saturday our central midfield was without Ledley, Brown, Wanyama, Kayal and McGeouch (on a non-fitness related injury), while even auxiliary stand-in for central mid, Charlie Mulgrew, was on the list of others getting treatment.

The run of bad luck has moved clearly into the realms of statistical relevance.  It is not luck at all, we are doing something wrong.

Football clubs look to sports science to deliver multiple objectives.  Competitive pressure is put on players to become faster and to be able to run as effectively late in games as they can in the opening minutes (which for now is a physical impossibility but remains a key target), but we are clearly missing a trick.

  6. I don’t blame BTB for posting what he did earlier, I blame BMCUW.

It was he who requested the re post and for long enough he has been a blight on these sainted pages.

I would go so far as to suggest that he should, at the very least, be suspended for a suitable duration to gie all our heids peace :-)

The youngest (9) has recently packed it in claiming that it’s too wearisome having to remember all the moves (she’s a lazy article!!).

The elder (11) loves it and wants to start participating in festivals/competitions. I’m old fashioned and wouldn’t be comfortable seeing her in some of the costumes they flaunt themselves in these days.

Anyway I still have hopes that she’ll be the first female to lift the European Cup in the hoops :-)

Ah sent an email on the back of keevins saying it was ludicrous to ban somone because you disagreed with their views ,lorraine herbiston replied that they had barred me in the past for swearing on the show and libelling a ref.

I emailed back an said that ad never nor would ever swear on their show and yes ah had suggested mike mccurry wis either a coward or cheat and wis subsequently barred for three seasons but had been on last season with no problem other than the discomfort of clydes panelists.

She said they could not take he chance to let me on.

Nazism is different from Fascism – that’s just what I said.

The roots of Fascism pre-date Mussolini – agreed. Mussolini was able to build on those roots: he was a d**n good journalist, if a rubbish politician.

Last time i was there, the 1-1 game, we were put away up top, right on the half way line, a long walk up the stairs and not for those with height issues. The walk back down the stairs at the end of the game was great, singing “walk with me oh my lord”

It wasn’t a job I ever thought about but it turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve made. It’s not a job for everyone, it’s more a calling. But many people have given it a go and realised it wasn’t for them.

  19. Well done to CQN for ignoring the cross-referential self praise of two (?) imagined controversialists on the blog today.

It’s a bit like having a blog devoted to avoiding lazy journalism and having it dominated by posts from Keevins & Jabba.

  20. Good evening all.

Well, that was some introduction !

Thanks to each and everyone of you. I take the good and the bad ( I have a very thick skin, mainly due to the fact I have dealt with huns for most of my life) I felt the same way as you all probably did on reading that post on Amazon, maybe next time I will take more time to contemplate before posting my thoughts . In some way it´s like emails, the gist of the conversation can get lost in the translation.

I am retired and live in Spain. I have someone on the case to get me a ticket for the Barca game at Celtic Park and I hope to get a ticket for the game in Spain. I was hoping we would get Valencia in the draw as it is a bit nearer than Barcelona but hey ho I´m not complaining. You just don´t get bigger games than that!

I´m not a great poster, I love reading CQN every day, but you will hear from me now and again.

God bless you all and God bless Celtic.
