Tom Rogic (29) leaves us tomorrow, 8 months shy of a decade at Celtic. After a couple of loan spells back in Australia he became a mainstay of the Celtic side in Ronny Delia’s second term. Tom will be remembered as an artisan, a throwback to an earlier era, when grace was more common.
His goals stick in the mind more vividly than most. The league winner at Kilmarnock, the last-minute winner at Motherwell, he was the scourge of Newco, scoring against them at three different venues. He leaves Scottish football as one of four nominees by his fellow professionals as Player of the Year. This season, outstanding performances against Hibs, Dundee United, Motherwell and Ross County all come to mind. He harvested votes across the season.
Nir Bitton (30) also wears a Celtic shirt in battle for the final time tomorrow. He arrived seven months after Tom and leaves on a high, bookending his career here with a controlled cameo at Ibrox that saw Celtic comfortably over the line.
Their contemporary, James Forrest (30), signed a new deal yesterday that will keep him at the club until 2025. All three have more to offer the game. None were likely to be first choice at Celtic next season, but, when fit, James has the ability, pace, experience and goalscoring threat that the manager values.
Having watched Scott Brown interact with the rest of the squad, I also believe there is an important role in maintaining an identity about the club, one that is best secured from within the dressing room.
You will have lots of memories to deal with tomorrow, none more than the incredible Hampden moment in May 2017, when Tom ran from 30 yards out, evaded two challenges and slipped the ball into the net to secure the invincible treble! Some heroes are destined to inspire long after they leave.

The wee man watched it with his dad then watched highlights with me at 7:30 on Thursday morning.
While watching them it dawned on me that him being 12, apart from Last season he has known nothing but success and joy.

There are a handful of CQN posters who love JF and remain convinced that the last two seasons don’t count when considering his current value. That he just needs a few games to get him back to his best.
My impression of JF for the 2020-2022 years:
He is extremely injury prone.
He cannot switch wings despite being played left side on occasion.
He pulls up before tackles.
He rarely scores goals.
He has lost at least a yard of pace (check out the semifinal game for proof of that).
When did he last make a big impact in a tough game? A MOTM display? Terrorise the newco defence or leave a European defence in tatters?
Isn’t that what we expect from our wide players? Jota has that. Abada may have it. JF has lost it.
A 3-year extension? Heart ruling the head I think.

Cheers fella. I hear those words but don’t really get it. Post-Lustig was defined by failing to replace him on the field and not sure this continuity thing means anything to results – Neil Lennon and Scott Brown had that continuity pitch but didn’t stop us from falling apart when newbies joined.
January was a great success because we bought players who could play Ange’s way. Sentiment tends to bugger that objective up..in my (unpopular) opinion….

Before Bitton and Rogic were announced as leaving with group stage football guaranteed, we needed a minimum of four top players and we still do, and you could now argue for six.
Departures merely free up wages for the new heroes, there are few in any development players in waiting, and we remain a buying club this time so far with a better judge of player.
There are at least four big contractors for whom no leaving announcements are required.

Christopher Jullien takes a swipe at Ange Postecoglou.
Since mid-January, I feel 100%, after that it is the choices of the coach.
It belongs to him and he is successful: we have been champions since Wednesday and in December we won the cup.
For my part, I told the coach in January that I was ready to go.
Now it’s his choice and sometimes he doesn’t name me on the bench because he prefers to take a midfielder who can play in central defence.
I’m unsatisfied with my playing time this season because it’s frustrating and all I want is to be on the pitch.
I still have a year left of my contract here and I would like to continue playing but my priority is to be on the pitch.
In my situation and with this current playing time, it is not possible.

Difficult to replace those two. They know what it means and what it takes to play for Celtic.

Obviously it doesn`t but few posters are criticised as much as JHB for getting something wrong. He, IMO, gets a disproportionate amount of stick. There are other FAR more deserving of that treatment.

My memory of CJ was he had the making of an excellent CH. He looked like he would have 1-2 top seasons for us then move on to EPL. I can certainly sympathize with him as it looks like he has been frozen out.
When we were regularly conceding goals from set pieces he would have made a big difference.

After watching ange’s football over the last year I struggle to believe he likes bitton or rogic’s style of play, both are slow and low energy. It looks like celtic had a year option but did not take it up. The players are not gonna say anything that damages their power of bargaining would be clubs. Celtic are hardly going to come out and say they don’t see them in our future, guys have given 9 years service apeice.

I thought Jullien had positive attributes but could also show weakness and was a wee bit of a drama queen/king (just in case Eilidh’s looking in)…I also think Giakoumakis goes big on the drama sometimes. Doesn’t make them bad players, however….
For some reason Ange didn’t appear desperate to get CJ back into the team…hmmmm!
