Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

Its unfortunate that the smaller clubs (in Uefas eyes)

Cant do more in way of protesting in how its geared to suit the money clubs and Sky .

Champions league should mean just that or change the name to suit .

Your suggestion sounds well thought out and doable .

Just heard a few advance tracks fae Foo Fighters album out next month.

Wow. These guys are at the top of their craft.

  6. I look upon what the blazers at Hampdon have done as a major blunder

They have given up control of the future penalties for rangers past cheating to us the fans, we must grab this opportunity with both hands

If the Celtic board do not step up for the shareholders and fans then we have to organize and show them as per the bunnit that we will not take it anymore

It may be a long expensive fight I just hope it happens before they go bust again

a few weeks ago, Liam in Toronto’s daughter was looking for a turntable … I have an old Denon stereo that my dad had given me, that I rarely use anymore, so I said she could have … and since I wouldn’t have a turntable anymore, she could take whatever records I had left (I gave away about 3000 of them years aog, but kept about 100 of my old favourites that I couldn’t find on CD at the time) ….

she came over, and we spent the night listening to old jazz, and 80’s music … one of our favourites that night was Hugh Cornwall’s single One in a Million Children…

I think England have 5 teams in it this year as Man U won the Europa, that is far too many but its population/TV based not merit,Russia being the exeption, its basicallly a European Super League under UEFA control. They get rid of the teams they dont want to see in Qualifying and the group stages, seldom are there shocks, coupled with teams being kept appart in the draws, i only have an interest when Celtic are playing in it.

Had a wee look back and it seems it was a bit of both ,not selling Goodwillie to them and Thompson being vociferous about saying the new club should enter football in the 4th tier .

    Paul,

You quote Ralph Topping: “The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

    Again:

“…nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this…”

We were not ‘involved in anything like this’. Only one club was.

That statement is libellous; clear, plain, open and shut.

As such, it gives our board a golden opportunity to take out proceedings against Ralph Topping and the organisation he represents.

And in doing so, open up the entire scandal.

    Now back to exile.
