Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

Had a coupla guinness after work there in my local. The normally mild mannered Clydebank Tims are angry. We will accept being beat fair and square on a level playing field. We hate being cheated and conned. Some raging Tims ready to revolt. Come the Revolution!

He is on twitter trying out his Mosley tactics of recruiting at football matches.

I hope Sunderland fans ignore him. Our crowd should certainly give him a wide berth. I expect nothing from tomorrow’s match bar a run out of some reserves and youth team.

  11. Someone said it today.

The biggest protest our clubs fans could make over any kind of Bhoycott of away grounds would be to not attend the Celtic v Sevco game at home.

Personally I think not attending the full game is a bit much and maybe first 20 mins or first half hour co-ordinated with a GB Tifo as teams return for 2nd half.

Yes I know this is a big ask of many of our supporters, but rather than a minority of away fans giving up watching one or more games this action would have all paying home supporters standing as one with the away support.

I can’t think of a bigger message that us as a support could deliver to the SPFL, the SFA, Celtic and Sky TV’s world wide live audience.

Imagine thereafter a few other SPFL clubs fans then took our lead.

As a starter, no one would be financially damaging their own club or other clubs but the message would be the greatest of any co-ordinated in football,

    Thoughts?

DD- Sport, all we want is a level playing field.I am sure there are bodies buried everywhere with the hun cheating, that our Board know a bit about, the Establishment will be shocked about what is out in the open now….If Peter Lawwell and the Celtic Board do not step up, they will be persona non grata amongst the Celtic community, we know the voting stuff at the AGM makes it impossible to get them emptied .If they represent us the way they should, then we can ALL move forward together.Take it to UEFA, Court for Arbitration in Sport, Board supported with all of us , we will have a chance of justice. The ball is in their court, they must step up and do the right thing.HH
