Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

Then empty stadium for 30 mins from kick off.

Far too late in day to organise anything for this game.

  3. First time poster gents and ladies so go easy please. Credentials – season ticket holder in the North Stand with my dad, almost 80, since it was built, was in Lisbon celebrating the 50th and love the club with all my heart. Some on here will know me but not under this moniker. Lurk every day and no I’m not a Hun….

Problem I have is that we are now likely to be forced into a fight for what I would call the soul of Celtic. It is unbelievable that we are even having the discussion re titles etc. and in any other arena it would be a slam dunk – but not in Scotland.

I hope and pray that the Board do the right thing in this because if they don’t I will feel more cheated by them than the Huns and establishment. I expect it from them but not by those who represent Celtic supporters worldwide.

Hopefully they will realise that by inaction they will alienate a large percentage of the support and will act accordingly but I remain to be convinced. As an optimist though I will give them the benefit of the doubt for now.

I would rather lose than win cheating and the Celtic I was raised to support would not be the same if they allow this to go unchallenged.

  4. Anyone been to a bar in Alcudia which should show the game against Rosenburg?

Welcome. Your statement above has become the crux of the matter for me. We expect Huns to act like Huns. We expect the highest standards from everyone at Celtic. Our Board have said they strive for only the best. They used the rules against the Green Brigade. It’s time they stepped up to the plate.

But are you a Hun in disguise? I ask because you’re fine post contains the letters that make up the phrase:

    Up you Celtic. Move on.

    =====================================================================

You will be made to feel most welcome on this board because of the view , widely held on CQN , which you express above which ,in essence , says :

    Celtic have been cheated.

    I blame Celtic.

    Nevertheless.

    Welcome .

  13. TTR – this has become all consuming for me and most of my friends, not all of whom support Celtic. It would be easier if we were sure that the Board felt the same but the fact is we don’t know because they don’t open up. It’s therefore hard to criticise and hard to support them at the same time.

    DD – probably :)

Marspapa – thanks. I just said to my old man earlier that the most effective demo would be a walk out or late entry. The 20/12 scenario works for me.

Good. The malcontents got rid of Whites and Kellys. Done it before, we can do it again.

  15. Macjay – your posts intrigue / confuse me. I’ve always felt you have Celtic at heart but had a unique way of putting that across. Read my post again please, at no point have I blamed Celtic.

Fritz – no but am familiar with the process.

  17. Peter Lawwell, July 2017,

“There is no room for debate. The safety authorities and the football authorities make the rules. They also enforce the rules. If the rules are broken, Celtic will be punished again and again. There is no hiding place from these realities. Anyone who has Celtic’s interests at heart must surely recognise them and behave accordingly”.

  18. Peter Lawell

Do you have Celtic’s interest at heart in relation to Hun cheating.

Please answer with action over mealy mouthed words.

    Evening Dick.
