Topping’s who knew what when?

2675

In his Q&A session with the Daily Record yesterday, outgoing SPFL chairman, Ralph Topping touched on the subject of who knew what when, regarding Rangers slide into liquidation saying:

“There wasn’t one single person ever who envisaged this case happening. You tell me who pointed out that this was going to happen – did you?

“The biggest assumption about the set-up in the SPL would be that you would have Rangers and Celtic playing in it in perpetuity – nobody thought that those two bastions of football would ever be involved in anything like this and nobody flagged it up.”

Well, in October 2011 I knew.  This CQN article from 27 October 2011 notes in very specific detail Rangers were going to liquidate, a phoenix would be created which wanted direct access to the SPL (the top flight at that time).  I got the timing wrong, predicting the phoenix would take place during the season, but to be fair, it later became clear this was Craig Whyte’s plan at the time.

Ralph Topping’s SPL knew too.  Rangers alerted them to the situation that very month.  The SPL spend November, December and January preparing the ground for Rangers administration and liquidation, a period during which a new TV deal was signed.

I think I’m saying the same thing as you here!

The whole episode is so huge that the authorities are terrified of the consequences should a successful campaign bring about justice. They could not possibly control the narrative or any outcomes. Where would it end? What would it ultimately mean? No one could begin to predict where it would go! Every game deemed to end 0 – 3 has an unending series of knock-on effects with endless ifs and buts. You get the idea, Falkirk should have won the Scottish Cup, qualified for Europe – what might have been Etc.

Then you have the social/moral dilemma! Unpaid taxes, failure to deliver for shareholders up and down the country. Illegality on every imaginable level, immorality no one could ever excuse or make amends for. I don’t believe that this can be dealt with appropriately for so many reasons – legal, financial, social, historical, consequences and yes! Fear.

Personally, I do not wish to see individuals hounded to the point of bankruptcy, or beyond for these matters but can these be ignored whilst attempting to achieve justice which HAS to be seen to happen? I do want the whole sordid matter brought to an end by recognising what went on, the history books to record the facts and peace to break out for the greater good of Scottish Football into the future where my sons and their sons can follow the game with pride and confidence that the same things are never able to happen again.

I do want to see the offenders named and shamed, I would like to see the trophies won under a shadow marked in the history books as just that. If though, that is considered unlikely, impossible even, then I want the sham of continuation called out for what it is and the SPFL to declare that for all to see. Then, we can “move on”.

  2. Kind of like the implications of one of Auldheids posts earlier. In that if PL does not give us justice from the SPFL/SFA then we should be looking for his head as an alternative.

Maybe it might help to focus minds amongst our custodians. If only to save their own skin

  3. If we are supposed to believe trillions of punters are betting Deady bears to win the league, then why are they 12/1 with PP. While we are 1/10 and Aberdeen are 10/1….made up Lillian Gish IMO.

  4. Joe O’Rourke from the CSA had the guns out on Monday morning. He also said he was meeting reps from all other honest teams on Tuesday. Not heard anything from him since.

BBandDD unofficial bookies will offer odds of 1690/1 for the huns to win the league. Huge bets welcome. :)

    Someone said it today……

If we feel Celtic are letting us down why boycott other grounds ?

My thoughts on the situation .

    1.

    Boycott a home game.

Ok so SB’s have been bought .( £28 ) not much of a sacrafice in the long run .

    2.

If fans cant/wont boycott a game , dont attend the KDS, lounges or purchase any food from the outlets prior during or after one match.

This way you still see the game but hit the profits .

Whatever shape these boycotts take it will be the inno ent that suffer in the long run

These are just thoughts of a simple man .

    BTW …. I still think

PL / BOARD will do whats right for us .

    Niavecsc….

Ps… for all the fans want justice and leadership from our custodians , i dont think they want it to interfere with their matchday experiance .

    Anyhoo i’m off to google

We can roll some siege machines and giant catapults outside Hampden, and just reduce it to rubble:)

1690/1 is a marketing ploy to reel in the moronic gullibillys. Their pin code of 1690 will attract their interest.

I think the 20/30/45 minutes of 53000 fans not being in attendance would not only make a statement to SFA/SPFL//Celtic/Wirldwide TV audience would not just be a statement but would then have to viewers and foreign news agencies asking the question WHY?

I can’t think of a single act that would have more impact. Over and above that if other clubs fans then took our lead in games against Sevco the issue would then become something that no one in Scotland could hide from.

Plus it would be all paying supporters and not just a minirity of away fans acting on our behalf.

Not buying pies, bovril’s, attending and spending in the KDS would have no one asking Q’s or escalating the issue outside our club never mind our countries border.

  14. It has always puzzled me why no one in the SFA or SPFL has ever come out and said that they believe that Rangers cheated or why they believe they didn’t cheat in spite of the evidence that they cheated HMRC, but saying the same mindset was incapable of cheating football.

There is an Article 5 in the SFA Handbook, its short and easy to understand under

    5. Obligations and Duties of Members

    5.1 All members shall:-

    (a) observe the principles of loyalty, integrity and sportsmanship in accordance with the rules of

    fair play

    (f) behave towards the Scottish FA and other members with the utmost good faith.

In passing responsibility for Rangers transgressions to the SPFL and focusing only on the technical interpretation of registration minutiae, were the SFA excusing themselves from introducing a charge that RFC had breached both items?

A charge that would have been impossible to deny making registration a fundamental defect rendering a player ineligible from the outset rather than a series of honest mistakes.

Why was that not part of the Commission’s brief as a breach of good faith is what most believe had happened? Apart from its inclusion countering Bryson and making players ineligible is there another reason?

If found guilty of dishonesty on an industrial scale, would that have made it impossible for SFA to agree to allow anyone associated with Rangers entry into Scottish football at a senior level?

Was it necessary to avoid any question of honesty in order to keep 45k fans having a team to support to avoid the loss of their money to the senior game.?

Is that why any documents demonstrating dishonesty had to be buried or simply ignored when drawing up the LNS brief?
