Uefa still on the pot on fixtures

668

Lots of frustration around today at the possibility the first leg of the Champions League qualifier will be switched to Belfast.  It will be no comfort to those who booked travel yesterday but we are in this situation every qualifying game.  The draw is made and confirmed a day or two later, which is why clubs (including Celtic) and CQN yesterday ran a “Don’t book travel until…” piece.  On most occasions nothing is changed which means fans are caught out when change happens.

No reason why Uefa can’t deal with this on the day of the game, or exclusively on the basis of strict criteria.  I hope they deny this request, which is not in Celtic’s favour and clearly not in fan’s best interest.

Two items to draw your attention to today:

Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust

Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust are undertaking a sponsored cycle of all SPL grounds this September in attempt to get to our £100k fundraising target. This money will be used to help on the battle to fight skin cancer working with organisations such as Beatson Cancer Centre. The event is called Tour for Tommy and will span 5 days, 12 clubs and 380 miles of cycling before returning to Celtic Park on Sunday 15th September. Ex-Celts such as Packie Bonner and Frank McGarvey are joining in as the full event and Bertie Auld will be completing the last day. The event is looking to team up with the fans of each club to join them on a leg from their stadium to the next.

The group have much of the logistics in place and most of the riders, but they need more help. Each of the four main days are being offered for sponsorship with day one already taken up. In return the 30-40 core riders will get their clothing made with that company’s logo as well as any signage on press releases at the stadiums among other benefits (full pack available upon request). The Tour has already received great coverage from Sky Sports with further commitment to track the whole event.

In addition the charity are looking for donations of anything from water bottles, energy bars/drinks to medical supplies and biking mechanical supplies.

If you are interested in getting involved in any way you can contact scottmcgarvey@gmail.com. You can donate here, follow on Facebook and twitter (@tommyburnsSCT).

I know many of you will be aware of the work done by Celtic fans for the people of Haiti as part of the Hoops For Haiti campaign.  This is another aspect of the incredible work done by Celtic fans and a credit to our club.  You can read their blog here and get involved here.

File on 4 tonight, excellent exposé on how the price of gas is fixed.

Sevconian scruples are everywhere it seems.

It just doesn’t add up. I’m curious as to the end game based on their current behaviour. Who knows!? But it can’t be good for the Sevconians.

Can anyone even try to fathom out the recent Sevco signing policy? If they are burning approx £1m per

month then what is their objective/thinking behind adding all these players who must be on more £ than most spl teams?

I can’t understand what the long term

plan is with this attitude. They will simply suffer an insolvency event quicker than predicted. Or is that the plan?

They’re all still on planet denial…

Agree with u mate , seems strange that Celtic would make public the acceptance of £12m.

Indeed, if that is true , why would any club offer more ?

Is it usual paper gash , or is it an unsubtle way of making it known big Vic can go hoping to get an auction going?

Either way I think the big man doesn’t really want to go

  5. The hoards wouldn’t weigh in for the same garbage, they need to delude themselfs that they are preparing for the assault on the cups.

They still haven’t passed 17K from what I understand.

    The wages they must be paying out….all bodes well for the future >}

  6. What was the Robert Peston major bombshell that was due to be announced today?

    Have Sevco paid an invoice?

  7. Darrell has swapped life and the cold in his hometown of Glasgow, Scotland (when would you ever see Fleurametz team members in their shorts there!) for Sarasota with his wife and son and revealed that the only thing that could take his new customers eyes off their stunning fresh flowers direct from Holland was some complimentary Scottish shortbread and Dutch cookies!

with regards to our earlier posts on Darrell’s whereabouts.

I found the links on the Huddleboard

I have absolutely no idea if the £12M is genuine or not. Time will tell.

PL stated a couple of years ago the policy would be buy em young and cheap and sell them high, given our environment.

It was ever this way growing up a Celtic fan. Macari, Hay, Dalglish, Nicholas, McClair all left for the money and England.

Players come and go. However Celtic remain. 125 years UNBROKEN!!!!

The policy is starting to bear fruit, happy with the way things are going.

If Vic wants to go, fair enough, there are players out there who will fill his boots no bother.

His agent is a total twat mind you.

It is not outwith the realms of possibility that they are trying to get the hoardes to buy SBs, then they’ll fill their pockets and exit stage left ……LOL

With all this ‘same club’ shoite, I’m beginning to think I will be even happier when sevco ‘bite the dust’ than I was when oldco slithered into oblivion…..LOL

  13. Willie Wallace, you are a legend. Got the book via CQN, loved it from start to finish. Met you briefly at the Lions night on Friday; I was the guy that hijacked you for a photo when you were on your way to the toilet; you were desperate for some relief but patiently waited till my bhoy worked out how to work the camera. Safe journey and thanks.

The core of this message – to try and stop a story being published and, stepping all the way back, the ignoring by smsm of CF leaks (regardless of the legal arguments) reminds me of a part of a plot in Debt Of Honour by Tom Clancy.

In brief a revengeful Japanese industrialists wipes out the value of the stock market and the back up databases . Trying to find a solution The President remembers a saying by his eye surgeon wife “if you do not write it down, it never happenned”. So using written records of business by floor traders before the wipeout the Americans with European and Asian help, reconstruct the market back to the point before the wipeout, tell a story to cover the close down when the market plummetted, and open up for business as if nothing had happened.

Carrying on as if nothing had happened has been the strategy of football and their smsm cohorts.

It is just a pity for them that, as in the book, a floor trader (CF) has the written records and the idea that nothing happened is becoming harder and harder to sustain- especially when the record of what happened is so jaw droppingly immense.

I’m thinking of writing to R Clyde to ask them:

1 In view of what is in the public mind on pundits being bought and paid for, if they will review their pundit recruitment policy to try to ensure that when a pundit is giving an opinion, it is his own and not one he was paid or pressured into giving. (I used to admire in a way Derek Johnstone’s blind loyalty to Rangers until it became absurd, but now we suspect it was not necessarily solely down to his love for Ranger it has lost even its loyalty value. )

    2. If a caller mentions Charlotte Fakeover material when SSB goes back on the air, what will SSB’s policy be in terms of answering?

SSB prides itself on “its all about opinions”, but what subjects will they allow an opinion on and do they appreciate that an opinion bought and paid for is not necessarily the honest view of the pundit expressing it after loyalty is discounted.

SSB and other media outlets have some thinking to do.

  20. Did we not loose mclair on the fly?

Seem to remember he let his contract run down and fergie got him for peanuts.

  21. McFaddens goals per game ratio as per Wikipedia is less then 1 goal per 5 games. I know with us he would get more chances but its hard to see him become a 20goal per season man. Thats the type of player we need also James is not 6ft 4 which is the new height requirement to become a Celtic player.

  22. 67Heaven … I am Neil Lennon..!!.. Ibrox belongs to the creditors

We suspected the SFA and Rangers were in cahoots – we were right.

We suspected journalist were too and began to think money was involved – we were right in one case and there may be more.

I’m beginning to suspect somebody is guaranteeing the wages of players signed with money not earned in football.

What are the odds on being right?

Anyone ever been pulled up for making a spelling mistake on an airline ticket. I’ve misspelt one of the names, put Suan instead of Susan. I’m wondering whether to tell them (Jet2) in advance and risk them charging me for a name change (£70) or whether risk it cos they probably wont notice.

Pretty sure name change is if it only the actual person, as long as surname is same as travel document then you should be fine, if its st Glasgow mention my name.

  25. Can I Have Raspberry On That Champions League Ice Cream

Aye but Laurie thinks nothing has happened however potential callers should kno wbefore wasting their time on a call if CF material is off limits and why?

Even getting on to ask the question , gets CF material into the public consciousness as does asking what their policy is before the season starts.

The aim is not to get an answer from Clyde it is to raise public awareness of CF material.

I know where Craig Whyte / Chuckles Greengo and SDM are at the moment …..in Italy advising Clubs on ‘how to manage taxation’….

  27. victor has done well for celtic and now it seems he has decided his future is away from paradise. celtic need to get the best deal they can and more on. same goes for hooper.

I don’t want either to go, I would prefer they stay, but they want to leave and I want them to go cause they are not fully committed to the cause.

McFadden is a quality player and would contribute.

but we have a few quality young players coming through (rogic, filip and mcgeogh, george) and i’d like to see a couple of them make the step up this year.

so I guess we’ll just have to wait and see

  28. Well that’s Willie Wallace on his way back to Australia tomorrow. But what was he doing today?

Those fortunate enough to hear Willie speak at the Greenock Celtic Supporter Club will know what I mean when I say Willie knows a player when he sees one. He tried to get Celtic to sign a lad who he regarded as the best in Australia but instead the player was snapped up by Bayern Munich. Our loss is their gain.

Well today Willie was at Lennoxtown sorting out for an 18 year old lad from Australia to come to Celtic. Willie rates the boy very, very highly – the best in Australia at that age. He is arriving end of next month and today Willie sorted everything out for the lad and the club -all for the love of Celtic. He was checking out the boy’s accommodation and the way the club will deal with him etc and he brought Bertie Auld along for assistance! He has now roped me in. My boys play cricket, Willie has picked up on this and as an Aussie the lad will be right at home playing for Hillhead Cricket Club in his spare time. We will welcome the boy here and do all we can for him.

So if in a year or two we have a new Australian star in the team – remember he was brought to the club by Willie Wallace – Lisbon Lion. For the love of Celtic.
