UnCommons Moneyball gem

857

Someone made the point to me over the weekend, 30 goals, and counting, from midfield, rivals 53 from Henrik Larsson as a central striker.  It is an unnecessary burden to compare Kris Commons to Celtic’s greatest player in four decades, even Henrik couldn’t compare to the memory of Henrik, but the history books will show for decades to come, Kris Commons is a rare gem, a Celtic player for the ages.

He’s the definition of a Moneyball player, he’s a great multiple Player of the Year and he’s ours.

Enjoy watching him.

Issue 20 of CQN Magazine, CQLisboN is out and enjoying great reviews. You can check it out here, for free, now….

The points accrued for beer and sausage purchases alone allowed my bhoy to get his name on a list that allowed him to get the new away top first with a 30% discount.

  4. Neil, You are quite correct, none of us, clappers or mineshafters, are privy to the internal dealings in the Club, however when did lack of knowledge ever stop any of us.

In Germany, there is the “50 + 1” rule, whereby the association or club has to have a controlling stake, commercial interests can’t gain control, In Bayern Munich, for example, Audi and Adidas each own 9% but the rest is controlled by the members via the club.

There are two exceptions: Wolfsburg is owned by Volkswagen and Bayer Leverkusen is owned by the chemical company, Bayer – both clubs originated as works sporting clubs. But generally a club in Germany is a true club for the members.

So if you ask fans outside a Bayern game who owns the club, they are incredulous: “The members, of course”

  13. Greenock Celtic Supporters club has completely sold out and has a substantial waiting list for tickets for the CQN xxx Number of Lions night on Friday 6th June.

Willie Wallace is now confirmed – did you notice he posted on CQN one morning last week? ( and finished off by saying he has sorry for bothering us!). Willie joins Tommy Gemmell, Bertie Auld and John Hughes and they have all agreed to do a bit of arm twisting while in Lisbon on behalf of CQN to get the other Lions down to see Willie before he goes back to Australia the next day.

On hearing this the Greenock Bhoys said “we’ll need to build an extension.”

  15. Where are these rumours of players leaving coming from.

Why would KC or anyone want to leave CP to struggle, like Hooper, to stay in the EPL or ply your trade in the romantic surroundings of Barnsley, Bolton, Blackburn?

Has Kris said anything about seeking pastures new?

Is he happy with his form, his surroundings and his place in our hearts?

At 31 he must see his career as winding down.

Where better to spend his “twilight” years than in front of an adoring public?

  22. embramike supporting wee Oscar and Res 12 on

On the subject of Club Ownership by members (Bayern Barcelona etc), I was discussing CFC shareholdings at the CSA dinner on Friday.

By comparison to my meagre shareholding, Dermot Desmond owns 8 million CPO, 31.8 million Ordinary and 5.1 million CCP shares

Would it not be the way forward for a ‘forward thinking’ club to at least increase the shareholding percentage of minority share holders / ordinary supporters ?

At a current price of 75p, it is not an overnight project, and I do not infer a move towards fan membership of the board, but it would seem that the club policy and strategy (not saying they are bad) is basically dictated by DD because of his overwhelming shareholding.

Perhaps there are good reasons for not going down this road, perhaps there may be some possible advantages. Would gladly field inputs.

Players aged 30+ seldom, if ever, get increased contract salaries.

What they look for at that stage in their career is a two or three year deal that will give them a bit more security, as they wind down their career.

The years between 26- 28 is the time when they seek the ” big” deal.

I believe Hooper has asked to get back to Celtic and bitterly regrets leaving, as does Wilson.
