Value of Ledley’s back post goals

764

Celtic didn’t hit the heights of last week’s win at Tynecastle against Inverness last night but it was a remarkably controlled win nonetheless.  The game could have been over as a contest in the opening minutes but as the lead didn’t extend beyond a single goal the contest retained an edge.

Daniel Majstorovic was incorrectly penalised when he correctly challenged for the ball 25 yards from goal but the Swede’s lax initial response to the forward ball created the situation that resulted in his red card.  Dan had a painful game against Inverness last season but after they were reduced to 10 men Celtic were far too composed to let Inverness’ numerical advantage count.

We’ve spoken about the value of goals from midfield in recent seasons.  Kris Commons lit up Celtic’s season when he arrived in a flurry of goals last year but Joe Ledley’s efforts from the back post this season could prove to be even more important.

Has there been any news regarding Thomas Rogne’s injury? Does anyone know when he is due to return?

I agree with you, but also believe this group of players (and coaches) already posses the us against them all – ‘winners’ mentality.

Neil is guiding them through a very special period in this fine clubs history.

  7. Barcabhoy,

I find it almost impossible to believe that the Celtic board would endorse newco.

(Easy Jambo posted some figures earlier on RTC that showed income to clubs minus Rangers in the league – can’t find it now and those figures would really help)

It is perhaps more palatable to think that the Celtic Board have no other option than to accept Newco due to projected income for Celtic and projected shape of things in the long term. I just don’t think that we need Newco never mind the lack of fairness. I also do not think Newco will exist until a long number of months after the mushroom cloud goes up which will give us a pilot to see how things go without them.

The easy analysis says the Sky contract no longer exists therefore tv income is down for each club. Lets say that it halves or even quarters. For some clubs that could be the death knell. Income down £500k to £1m? How many clubs would go over in those circumstances? Hearts, Killie, Motherwell, Aberdeen? I honestly dont know the answer but, from that face value easy way out for the MSM, I can see the headline message…

providing the tv money does go to these levels.

I won’t ask the MSM but has anyone called Sky (BBC, ESPN, Fox, Apple, Google etc) to ask how much they would pay for the SPL minus Rangers?

Has anyone figured out the truth in the ts and cs of the Sky deal minus Rangers? Immediate renegotiation and or retender?

Rangers should pay the price for cheating and I would even consider their business plan for Newco versus any other League applicant at Division 3. Are there any fit and proper Rangers supporters out there capable of running their club in a prudent and sustainable fashion?

If the worse happens then we should all look at starting again in England a la FC United of Manchester.

    However,

    A wee prediction.

A ” controversial ” decision will cost us points in the league.

I don’t know, but the indications are that here the hawks are the adventurous people who welcome the new landscape presented to us by the demise of the artists formerly known as Rangers and want to break away from the status quo for Celtic too.

The doves are the conservative ones who regard the pounds in hand from two league games a year against a club with a large travelling support as a better bet than whatever the future might hold.

Heid hawk is Peter Lawwell. That is the talk. If this ties in with what Barçabhoy is hearing, he is a big enough person to put his previous criticism of the chief executive behind him and back him in this potentially crucial argument. Peter Lawwell needs to convince the doves. In this case, two birds in the bush are the better bet.

It would be interesting to know exactly who the the hawks and doves are but lets face it. Only one hawk/dove will matter and that is Dermott Desmond.

Whatever he says with his largest shareholder status is 100% company policy.

    et al

I’d suggest every single Celtic supporter write to the club Peter Desmond as CEO but also as SPL board representative for Celtic, cc’ing in Dermott Desmond and Eric Riley who represents the club within the lodge of the SFA. If you have the time also write to Neil Doncaster at the SPL. Need to keep the pressure up.

Aye the league is the one.

When we win this league imo it will be as big as anything gone before.

Never in the history of the club has there been such a concerted effort directed against our club and our culture.

We have always had the usual suspects against us, the refs.

But we are now experiancing an assault from all sides, even the government have joined in.

What Lenny especially, and a couple of our players had to endure last season should have had the authorities taking action that could have put an end to the sectarianism in this hell hole of a country, insted Lenny got the blame for bringing it on himself.

The people who run the game in scotland should hang their heads in shame, but as they have no shame, only a supremisist attitude, there will no sweeter title than this one imo.

    Good Evening all,

Can I just say a big BIG Thankyou to everyone who turned out for the quiz last night which helped to raise funds for Vanessa Riddle.

Special thanks goes to Taggsy and family– who set the whole thing up and ran the show brilliantly.

    Some great questions:

” Name two local crap bands who support the Gers?”

” Name the owner of Rangers and is he a total fud?”

Thanks also to Frank who gave us some tunes at the end– and thanks to so many familiar strangers who came and spoke to me during the evening. Taggsy didn’t warn me that he wanted me to say something at the start, so my apologies for putting you through 5 minutes of unrehearsed but heartfelt drivel.

Habcelt, I usually start speaches these days by saying ” I used to be a lawyer, but I’m alright now!”

Fortunately though I still talk bollocks for a living.

We raised some good money last night and epitomised Celtic Football Club at its best. A community coming together, enjoying themselves, having a laugh and being entertained, whilst at the same time raising money for someone who really needs it.

That is Celtic at our best.

The vast majority of the things that Celtic do are done away from a football field. The focus is always on the players an the so called “stars” of the club.

Well I have news for you. I spent a good night and had a great time in room 109 of the Jury’s Inn last night, and inside was the Celtic first team. Each and everyone is as much a star as Sammi or Joe or Henrik or whoever– they just don’t get paid for it. Fine people all– I look forward to your company sometime in the future.

Lastly, at the half biscuit table last night I told a story about a friend of mine who is in the music business, He swears that Kate Bush has the best ass that he has ever seen. He goes on about this sufficiently often that his American wife has been known to shout ” Honey, are you going on about Kate Bush’s ass again?”

Anyway, over a drink or two I have been known to challenge his assertion that Kate’s bum is the epitome of female pulchritudity. On occasion I have produced evidence to support my argument. The evidence concerned was an LP cover the back of which showed a young woman in a swimsuit.

A stunning young woman who could fair belt out a tune too.

God love her– she was an unhappy soul.

  13. Sixteen roads to Golgotha on

I believe that we will win the league, regardless of their referees. The great thing,in my opinion is that we still have to play the huns twice more.Expect Celtic to win both these games, thus gaining another six points over them.

Hibs next Sunday, followed by Dunfermline on the Wednesday night.Celtic should beat these two sides, then we have ten league games remaining on the run-in.As i have already stated – two of the said games are against them, and they are a bad lot.

We have a difficult fixture away to Aberdeen in the next few weeks also, but we have the beating of that mob as well.

There is no reason why we should not win our 12 remaining league fixtures.Nerves will be our worst enemy, particularly at home.If the players and the supporters can overcome the nerves, the title is in the bag.

    It’s all good.
