VAR and the much needed extra spend

There is a bit of debate in the press today, echoing some online chat, about whether Scotland should continue with its ineffective implementation of VAR.  VAR was disastrously implemented in late 2022, was relaunched with more acceptable guidance after the World Cup in December of that year, but has been plagued by poor technology, slow decision-making, and inconsistencies.

Some of the above items are nothing to do with poor standards.  Slow decision-making than elsewhere is a factor or cheaper technology.  If we want improvements, we will have to pay for more cameras and better tech.  This is not a budget buster and could be implemented next season, if Premiership clubs are prepared to pay a tad for it.

Crawford Allan, who was responsible for the implementation of VAR, will be gone by the start of the new season.  He should not be the only one out of the door.  Fresh talent is needed, even if we need to import it from a more experienced environment abroad.

Our referees want VAR because without it the pathway to Uefa and Fifa competitions will be closed to them.  They will resist a talent import but it is not their game to control and there is no shame is admitting we are a small pond with limited experience and talent.  Our top clubs say as much each transfer window.

Any change that hopes to improve VAR from this point is going to cost clubs money.  My fear is that stasis has set in at both the SFA and many top-flight clubs.  Would the likes of Aberdeen, one of our richer clubs, really vote to spend more money to improve the product? Here is a £1 deposit casino, offering a budget-friendly option for those seeking entertainment.

    I agree – to my mind it’s more of if a UK app takes info then take government doesn’t as part of the agreement gets access to it. Though I’m sure it can do it’s best to get it.

     

     

    Whereas if you’re a Chinese company with the government on board…

    GP – I’m genuinely interested – this media control you mention. How far has it gone? Who controls it? What do they allow/not allow? Can they do more seasons of Only Connect?

    DAVID66 , I’m not on any social media, apart from Whatsapp for family etc .As you probably are ? What I’m concerned about as well are smart meters. I have resisted them but with yesterday’s news it’s going to get harder to resist. Then they can stop your power at the press of a button. :(

    Was speaking to a Scottish boy who teaches in China. He says that everything these days is done through 1 app on your phone – all payments (cash is very rarely used), your banking, bills, taxis, online shopping, takeaways etc.

     

     

    He said the government blocks your app if you step out of line. The more you step out of line the longer the ban.

    … And in the process bought a herd of footballers they couldn’t afford … and squeaked a place in the big time for another year.

    24 years ago saw a real low point.

     

     

    A 4 nil defeat against a pumped up Advocaat financially doped rangers team.

     

     

    I was there that day. In the same seat I sat in a year later when we wiped the floor with them 3-0.

     

    HL and Lubo plus wee Shaun.

     

     

    Both times I was behind enemy lines. I was last to leave the govan stand on both days. Contrasting emotions for sure. The latter I was waving to the packed Celtic end having listened to their resigned bitter arrogance and entitlement which failed to accept we were catching up and indeed going past them.

     

     

    Having been fed a diet of Ken Gallagher and Moonbeams it is no surprise.

     

     

    I sense a few parallels right now mind you.
