HOLDERS Celtic will discover their Viaplay League Cup opponents today when the draw is made after the Dundee v Inverness Caley Thistle at Dens Park with a 3pm kick-off.

Brendan Rodgers’ side, who have won the competition in SIX of the last SEVEN seasons, enter the tourney at the knock-out stage along with the other top Premiership clubs.

The Hoops will be seeded along with the Ibrox club, Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibs, Airdrie, Ayr United and Motherwell abd the last-16 ties are scheduled for the weekend of August 19/20.

The unseeded teams are St Mirren, Kilmarnock, Livingston, Ross County, Partick Thistle, Stirling Albion and Morton. Dundee or Caley Thistle will also feature.

CUP THAT CHEERS…Brendan Rodgers beams as he holds aloft one of his three League Cups – in the guise of the Betfred Cup – during his first stint as Celtic manager.

Rodgers won the League Cup in three successive years – Aberdeen (3-0, 2016), Motherwell (2-0, 2017) and the Dons (1-0, 2018) and Neil Lennon continued the silverware sequence with a 1-0 victory over Steven Gerrard’s Ibrox side in December 2019.

There was a hiccup during the wretched 2020/21 campaign while Ange Postecoglou picked up the first of his five trophy triumphs with a 2-1 win over Hibs in December 2021 when Kyogo Furuhashi scored a stunning second-half double.

And the club’s talisman was on target a year later when he flashed two behind the stranded Allan McGregor in a 2-1 success over Michael Beale’s Govan club in February this year.

The draw can be seen live on Viaplay later today.
