Teams can lose their competitive edge quickly. The Celtic team of 2003-04 were imperious: 25 consecutive league wins, they beat every team in the country, home and away, on the bounce. Larsson left, of course, but the following season’s problems were deeper than that.
Watching Argentina last night took me straight back to Fir Park, 2005. A feted team, packed with reputation and talent, simply failed to compete. Unable to match the industry of Iceland, or the ability of Croatia, they look like they want to return to the safety of club football immediately after the group stages.
Having great players is not enough if they are not sufficiently hungry, and keeping millionaires hungry for the SPFL is a challenge we will forever encounter. On this front, we must do what we can. Packed 60,000 seater stadiums help. I’m sure open-top bus parades help even more. These things create a sense of occasion and achievement, which is difficult to find elsewhere.

Gerryfaethebrig.
Hopefully a consolation goal for you.
Hail Hail
Night Night
Spoke too soon. Looks like curtains for Poland now, 3-0 to Colombia deservedly. HH

Great Bayern Munich player. Agree invisible for Polska tonight.
See the way guys like James take the extra touch in tight situations to open up the angles and create space. Pure class.
Fan-a-tic, someone called it earlier, he is not surrounded by Bayern München players, therefore he has to work for his team/country. Sadly not at the races tonight. HH
Gary67
Engerlund will play a group H team in the last 16
Fan-a-tic…agree. However, you would expect a spark of some kind to come from him…
Friesdorfer
That was not the Robert Lewandowski we saw in the Allianz Arena last October.
FRIESDORFER
He has worked hard but received no service so having to try and create his own chances against a good Colombian defense.
Not sure what he can do in a poor team with no plan?
When does Morelos come on?

polska szybka wiadomość in meltdown
At least Poland don’t have far to go home!
Colombia and Mexico have worked hard and entertained…gracias…
That Harry Kane is one of the best strikers in the world.
HH. ?

Leigh Griffiths is better than Harry Kane.
DELANEYS DUNKY
I was hoping for a draw:))
Ganbare Nihon:))
Only saw the second half Poland looked well beaten??

WEEBOBBYCOLLINS
The warning of how potent Colombias attack was when they could afford not to bring Morelos to Russia.
Saves the huns fending off billion pound bids as he would easily have been the top scorer at this world cup.
DD
Leigh Griffiths is better than Harry Kane. ….and Johnstone is better than anyone
It’s not immediately clear to me.
Is Stevie G seeking the Cardigan’s aid in a coaching or playing role?
GENE on 24TH JUNE 2018 8:56 PM
It will be but on that show Colombia will qualify and go to quarters at least. They only lost first game because they had a player sent off in first 5 mins otherwise they’d already be through.
SP
Poland were very poor. Deserved what they got.

neither – Tax evasion

Jinky is the greatest ever ever
Fan-a-tic, agree that Lewandowski did not get any service, or support for that matter. However, imo he did not work for his team tonight, lack of effort until just before the 2nd goal for Colombia, when he realised that they were in danger of losing unless they upped the tempo, at which point he started to move much more quickly, and attempted to make things happen. Too little, too late. HH

I started to write I would rather have Leigh than ‘Arry :-)
Although the Kane fellow certainly knows how to score a penalty

Senegal for me
That’s us now reached halfway point in World Cup. Spain, Mexico, Croatia, Colombia (on tonight’s performance) and England have looked the best so far. But it’s usually the slow starters who come through in the end, France, Brazil, Belgium all winning but not hit form yet, Germany and especially Argentina struggled but still have good chance of qualifying.
My Brazil v Spain final still on course.
That’s humiliating if you ask me that the mega mega Superstar Stevie G has to ask the Cardihun for advice on football coaching.
Something stinks about this whole deal.
Gerrard is just a front man for some whole other level skull if you ask me!
Starry
It’s paper talk shit

Thought Morocco and Serbia have been unlucky
GENE
Morocco have been very unlucky, play great football but no striker to stick the ball on the net. Peru have same problem.
GENE
Hard to tell over at the Southside Big Top:))
I thought maybe somebody wanted the Cardigan back in the tent to get the support onside etc:))
Still think the whole Stevie G thing stinks tho’

DD 8.59pm
Just saw your post about Leigh like Gene I concur :-)
