We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

  1. Thanks Burgh, For any nutters out there interested there are still 361 dots at Celtic Park.

Think we might need an exciting signing to mop up remaining dots.

  2. Corkcelt well done you pair enjoy your day together but I’d still expect breakfast in bed!!! H H Hebcelt

  3. Heb, If I don’t get off CQN and give a hand getting things sorted, breakfast will be the least of my worries. Family coming round later for a wee get-together.

  4. Everything here today in slow motion. The Thermometer reading 46 degrees.Debilitating.Me and the devil dug started out along the beach, and she turned and headed back after a couple of hundred metres. The sand would take the skin off your feet.Me and Mrs TB in the pool the rest of the day.

Finding it hard to believe the story of Warbs re-appearance last night.I cant find one rag trumpeting the news so far.Would have thought it would have been the news they have all been waiting for.

    Turkeybhoy,

Where did you read that Warburton was back?

It’s been a month since the Final and Davie Weir is still negotiating on behalf of the former City trader.

The latest is yet another free transfer.

The warbmeister was seemingly at the Thistle Hotel last night….

I remember Shug Keevins slaughtering the signing of Lubo the magician at 33, funnily enough Joey B has had far more positive exposure and not saw a Sunday paper but am sure Clint (38 in October) will bring great experience to the newish entity

There were reports last night on here that Warbs and Weir attended some function for charity last night.

Gerry, some reports saying he is there to act as “A Minder”for Barton. Some times laughing is just not enough.

Great quote from Josh Windass today,!I dont know what all the fuss is about,Accrington are just being petty.I mean, they know they will get their money”

Obviously young Josh has a lot of reading up to do.

Turkeybhoy in Josh Windass’s defence going by the media he probably thinks the team he has signed for is minted (no dodgy Dave pun intended) heard Dean Windass on the radio a few weeks ago,, really good interview and probably realises it’s a good move for his son, even a few months pay with a bigger profile Klub in his eyes was a good move for his boy….. Did Hearts ever get the Lee Wallace fee, seemingly the new entity had to cover the old Klubs fitba debts….. No laughing out there

BSR cheers for the Shug quote, a joker of a journo, now makes a living as the pantomine villian…. I suppose you have to admire somebody willing to act like a clown for cash

  14. Don’t like doing the politics thing, but just for a laugh …

On the Indy referendum I promised the Kano Foundation I would donate £20 if my predicted 55-45 vote was correct .. So the guys got their dough

This time I am going to predict 59-41 in favour of remain, allowing myself 1 point either way. Instead of wasting a fiver a pop at the bookies, I will donate my Euro gambling to the Kano Foundation if I am right.

At least it give me an interest in the vote.

    I also went 55-45,but this time I reckon 53-47.

A lot depends on “traditional” Labour voters. That’ll be the ones who defected to UKIP last year. Hopefully they will have learned a hard lesson that a protest vote can deliver.

Hebcelt, further to your post yesterday about Guy’s restaurant in Candleriggs.

We were there about ten days ago and had an excellent meal, really enjoyable.

We had a minor criticsm of us being seated close to the kitchen and it was a warm night so it was , temperature wise, a bit uncomfortable.

The staff were very good and the food was very tasty.

Check Groupon as they sometimes do deals for the restaurant.

Corkcelt, congratulations on your wedding anniversary. Have a great day.

  19. I think there will be a late swing to Remain, similar to in the Scottish referendum. But I think this one will be just a little closer. My prediction is 54 – 46

  20. GERRYFAETHEBRIG

I hope you are right, anything less than 55-45 will see a strong right wing stand on many issues, as the shitebag alliance of Cameron and Osborne will do anything to cling on.

I have a few good freinds down south who, despite being well educated and decent blokes, are very pro Brexit, so I think you are being optimistic.. I said that with all the authority of someone who knows feck all, a bit like the dynamic duo mentioned earlier.

You seriously underestimate the depth of feeling in England against immigration. I find it genuinely disturbing to hear blatantly racist discussions taking place in various locations, not just Swindon.

Which, btw,is historically blue-collar but now has two rock-solid Tory MPs and voted 15% for UKIP.

I argue the case often down here, but people vote with what they are experiencing. And while I think the %age in Scotland is around 4% of residents born abroad,in England it is 14%. And 40% in London.

Sadly it doesn’t take much to bring out the Little Englander. And the referendum has provided that. And given their ingrained racism a voice.

  22. Cannot say it often enough. Thursdays referendum is a squandering of public money to resolve internal feuding in the Tory Party.

No matter, and I think it highly unlikely, if the Leavers should win by a massive majority, the government will find a way to remain in EU.

As for who to vote for. It is merely a choice between a toxic form of kick workers’ arses right wing capitalism and an even more extreme form of kick workers’ arses right wing capitalism .

MurdochAuldandHay, there was a chap on radio 5 yesterday afternoon talking about the unrest among Dinamo Zagreb and Hadjuk Split ultras at the way the Croation Football Federation is run and what happened on Friday was a result of this.

It wasn’t good to see and took the spotlight away from this good to watch Croatia team.

I am forever the optimist and like our own referendum I think the majority of people are too scared of change, again being the optimist the racists are always the loudest and the quiet majority will hopefully not give the lunatic fringe any encouragement, my opinion is a 100% unqualified just don’t like hypocrites like Farage trying to influence people by fear

Anyway more importantly still no update on who Brendan might face in tomorrow’s draw ?

  25. Dallas Dallas thanks for that, booked for tomorrow night, as a matter of interest what did you order? Have seen the menu, looks interesting. H H Hebcelt

You are almost certainly correct. But here’s a wee question for you.

Who is most likely to vote on the day?

I think virtually all who want to leave will vote that way. Those who want to remain need that same level of motivation.

Fair point….. Although my opinion was just in reply to a guess at the vote, it won’t change the way I live day by day, I dislike all of the so called politicians, I am confident in my fellow human beings that can be arsed to vote :-)
