We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

1494

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

I thought BR would have made at least one signing by now, maybe PL & DD are not for paying holiday pay just now….. All kidding aside am sure Brendan has already been prepping potential signings maybe waiting on Wales going out before Joe Allen is our first signing

The scary scenario is that the UK leaves the EU over concerns about immigration and is then required to accept free movement of labour as a condition of trading within the EU.

Where then do the disaffected look to for political direction?

  5. Dallas.

    How are you?

Thanks for the report on the Pollok game. I’ts good to see Tony McInally doing well, as you said a right good tim and a genuine good ghuy.

I was winding him up about 4 years ago when he the manager of Shotts. He was arguing with the ref and I shouted McInally the refs right, your clueless, he turned round ready to argue then seen it was me and shouted how you doing, come down. I hadn’t seen him for a good few years, so it was a good to see him and get a good welcome. It was a pre season friendly just in case anyone thinks he wasn’t taking his managerial duties seriously.

Hebcelt, we were there with my two pals and their wives.

Two of us had the beef sushi dish to start with quite a lot of chilli powder on it and the others had the quail’s egg and the Stornoway Black pudding , which they all enjoyed.

I had the steak as my main with the others having the pork or the sea bass. As scousers would say, top scran.

We all thoroughly enjoyed it and hopefully, your wife and good self , enjoy it as much as we did.

Yeah I thought someone would be in already, But If they have a target at the euros it stands to reason to sit on the cash rather than bring in 1 or 2 squad fillers. For what it’s worth I think we have a good squad just now if Brendan can find the right combination and give them back their confidence.

Gerry I would rather he got who he wanted rather than spurge it, He seems set on getting the squad down first which is awesome, Rather than add to it. I have a good feeling about Brendan. He comes across as level headed but confident, After Ronnie we just want to be playing good attacking football again and take it from there.

Domestically we are miles ahead of anything with the squad we have, So hopefully Brendan had his eye on 3 or 4 big signing for europe. Fingers crossed bro.

Give it a couple of seasons. It will all be back to normal and the brief interregnum will be forgotten.

Hence Celtic’s silence on the issue.

    Good business sense.

And at the end of the day that’s what’s important.

  16. My friends in Celtic,

In my opinion the level of civilised debate on CQN is second to none. Paul 67 has created a great vehicle for all things Celtic and beyond.

To those of us who scan various social media sites, you will know what I mean. Levels of hatred, intolerance and trolling are disgusting.

Leave or remain, the debate on CQNwill remain civil, as it should be amongst friends.

Some very poignant and thought provoking posts last night . My thoughts and prayers go out to all affected by tragedy.

Celtic are my never ending passion. It gives me focus and escape from the evil that we often hear about. Yes As a club we could and should do some things differently, but I could never contemplate not supporting out team.

That my friends is one reason where personally I truely believe Celtic are mush more that just another club. I cannot wait for the new season.

    Hail, Hail to all.

Yeah I don’t know any Celtic fans who use the term old firm, I have one pal andIi always remind him, He is older and its habit more than anything.

Ernie i hope you cheer up and I hope you are wrong, I have a feeling this year the gap between Celtic and the rest the media will drop the term as they should have when the huns went teets up.

If Celtic get their act together they will be unstoppable domestically.

I think the huns are in for a very very long hard season, Lvl 5 can only dress so much up. They have a threadbare squad with 4th rate players coming in as back up. Doesn’t look good.

They will struggle against everyone this season is my bet, Our league is hard and fast, they are not used to it.

Cheers for the golf update, I hadn’t realised the 3rd round hadn’t been completed, it’s a hard ask to win when leading on the last day I usually try and pick somebody 3 or 4 shots behind for a bit of value but good on Shane if he can stand the pressure and win

  25. I hope Shane Lowry goes on to win the US Open, good Celtic man , the way my luck is at the minute I hope I dont craw him,.

  26. Talking to a lot of people yesterday on line regarding the Referendum has made me much more confident of a convincing win for Remain.

I can now see Remain getting around 60% of the vote – I know that most polls have a ‘neck and neck’ situation – I think they are ‘skewed’ by those saying don’t know.

The don’t knows (DK) hold the key, just as they did on the Scottish version.

Anyone intent on voting for the SNP’s ultimately failed proposal was only too happy to ‘shout it from the rooftops’ – I always believed therefore that DKs were actually NO voters who would not say – as it turned out this proved to be correct and the final outcome was comfortable.

Most polls appear to have Remain and Leave on, or, around, forty odd per-cent, with on average fifteen per-cent DK – if those DKs vote as they did in Scotland, Remain should win comfortably – let’s all hope so – for decency’s sake.

I can’t agree more about your opinions about the 4 politicians you mention. However, I think that it is important that people vote. Each person’s opinion should be more important than worrying about being seen to side with Cameron/Gideon or Boris/Farage. You are not aligning with them, any more than they would be aligning with you: you are choosing what is right or wrong.

But your wife is never wrong!

Of course everyone is entitled to vote in out or not at all. That’s democracy for you,and I’ve been on the losing side most of my life…

  35. I think its OK for people not involved with the problem of imigration to say it should not be an issue.Thats their uninformed choice.Living with it is a very different matter.I had friends, used to work abroad with them, who retired down to Dover. Two brothers who had married two French girls.Easy to nip back and forth to France.Their idyllic life turned into a nightmare.Gangs of youths have taken over the whole area.Their fairly expensive properties now worth zilch. No one wants to go near the area. All the residents now trapped in a hellhole.Police cant,or wont do anything. Not possible to go out after 6 .I see the same thing has happened in Calais.

Anyone familiar with the likes of Luton,Leicester,Wolverhampton, etc, will know that integration just does not work. The immigrants, mainly Muslim, have set up their own areas, which are literally,no-go areas for anyone else. They have no intention of integrating. They have set up Sharia law throughout whole swathes of these cities.Watched a documentary about Brussels.Brussels for god sake.It is now 60% Muslim, and the leader was saying in anothe 20 years they will have outbred the natives and will rule the city. They can wait,he said. Its happening all over Europe.

Now I dont support Farage,or any of his cronies, but to just blindly label everyone who is grossly unhappy with whats happening as racist,is ridiculous.People affected have real fears and they should not be ignored.

A wee daft story about the juniors.

When I was young, where I lived, the nearest junior grounds were a toss of a coin between Arthurlie and Pollok, my Dad was a big St Anthony (Ants) man, he asked me which junior team was I going to pick. I was in a pickle which one would I pick. He said I didn’t need to pick any of those three, I could pick one of my man, so I said ok then I pick Petershill. He had a fit, in my naivety I hadn’t realised I had picked a loyalist team. I quickly changed it.
