We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

1494

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

    Not wight.

I see though that in something called Game of Thrones a wight is a reanimated corpse.

Must remember that. It might come in handy.

I haven’t clicked on that link.

But I know what it is.

    Or rather, what they are.

Aberdeen have signed Frank Ross . Don’t know anything about him – hope he’s decent.

I once took out a temporary membership for Coles’ but was disappointed in the quality of the plover’s eggs served at luncheon in comparison to the Arms.

Following an apology for not wearing a cravat to the Charity Baccarat Night, I was readmitted to the Byooky, as we used to mirthfully call it.

I hear that, with the right contacts, such delicacies can still be sampled at somewhere called the Big Tree, not too far from those sadly-missed establishments?

    I sorry I even mentioned it now…….

Brexit means heehaw to me, governed by Westminster, Brussels, Geneva or wherever, it won’t change the way I live day to day

Surely it’s my right to not give a flying $¥€%

I would never try and influence anybody when it comes to politics, as much as I choose to not get involved I would never tell somebody else what to do……… I will still get up in the morning get my daughter ready for school and go to work

I will try and influence opinions about Celtic, since it’s a Celtic blog, I probably no even less about football than politics but will give it a go

Any update who we can get in the CL draw tomorrow ?

Kidding aside, you both make valid points,.

From my own stance, I reckon if we lose the governance from Europe with their laws we will be raped by the tories.

I do acknowledge that some tories want to stay within but for me that will be for financial/ secular motives.

I’d be one of those Contacts, The Big Tree has as far as I can remember served such delicacies…:) but not a patch on the Guinness. If you are ever passing drop in and savour the delicacies…and the great hospitality.

It will be a mistake not to vote in Thursday’s referendum. The politicians you mention have a sell by date but the outcome of the Referendum will live with us for decades. It’s important to vote one way or another. You’re not voting for or against Cameron or Boris Johnston, you’re voting on a decision to be insular or to remain part of a wider European Community. I’m retired now and I don’t think a vote to remain or exit will impact greatly on my life but for the freedom of movement to work and travel abroad for the younger generation, I intend to vote to remain.

Every big birthday is in there, every christening, communion & funeral is in the big hall, it’s a family thing

After any funeral we joke about some of the christenings, baptised then the banks, buried then the banks……… Before Cqn11 the Coatbrig mob gathered in the Banks before heading to Celtic Park

Jimmynotpaul, sorry for the late reply. My father’s day present from wife was to drag me to the Pollok Centre replacement so she could buy new shoes.

Good news about you not having any symptoms , I hope this the case for as long as possible.

My junior team is Clydebank . This stems from my early years going to Kilbowie if was not going to any of our games. When Clydebank went bust due those Steedman clowns, a hard core of Bankies fans wanted a Clydebank team in some shape or form back in the town.

They did a brilliant job and for the past fourteen years, clydebank have done really well in the juniors.

My son prefers going to junior matches but that will probably change now he will be in the standing section section.

Been in on plenty of occasions, as I had a flat in the Whifflet for a couple of years.

Loved their Guinness, and you were a friendly lot indeed.

I even drank in Carson’s at times, undercover obviously, as they used to sell Greenmantle, and I liked my Real Ales.

I just might make a return visit soon, but I’m not going to risk asking for plover’s eggs as I don’t want to be drinking the Black through a straw for a while.

Thanks for your comments. Sorry about the delay – people have been popping in and out of the house.

Unfortunately, I must report that the younger generation of my family is no better than my mum was.

A few weeks ago my wife discovered that my daughter whose name is Maria had gone out with a friend who took her out to a bar in Duke Street.

It was called The Louden Tavern.

Cue apoplexy from wife and me.

Apparently, she was not hassled but she has since been educated.

That s exactly the crux of the matter. There is valid points and merit on both sides.

For many it will come down to how they think their families will fare, and this may well be decided by occupation rather than political leanings.

Even the unions cannot speak with a unified voice ; Your Union Unite favours staying whereas the RMT favours Brexit.

No problem at all, as I posted I hope you were not annoyed at me repeating what you had posted but it was really good and thought provoking, as I mentioned you made me reminisce in a very good way

The Louden Tavern, funnily enough I have never drank in it but got on the Springburn train once (by mistake) so on way back to Bellgrove me and another eijit got a cargo and sang a song of fallen heroes outside of said Louden……. Pretty embarrassed but at the time thought it was brilliant

If I’m heading over, I’ll mail you well beforehand, thanks for that, mate.

At the time, Carson’s didn’t allow fitba’ colours, and I went midweek only, when it was quiet.

Knew another couple of Tims who did similar, as it was generally a well-run shop back then.

I broke the rule one Saturday night, while with my wife and another couple, and ended up never going back in.

Long story, and I’m heading out, so I’ll keep it for another time.
