We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

1494

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

    EU REFERENDUM

I think BMCUW makes a good point. The EU vote, on coming out of, or staying in the EU has become a single issue campaign – Race. This despite the many strands of complexity that the question raises. An isolationist stance is unacceptable, and I for one, will be voting to remain with Europe. In the week when a young MP lost her life. A young MP who by all accounts was actually in politics, for the right reasons, it is ironic that the Tories and Cameron face a humiliating, career endingdefeat, in a referendum that he only called, to stave off UKIP dissent within the Tor party to protect his position.Cameron, Osborne and their ilk, are career politicians, and the only joy I could take in the event a pro Brexit result would be to watch those feckers crash and burn.

    TURKEY

Don’t know much about Turkish politics. I have visited the country on four occasions, once in Istanbul, and find it a fascinating country. In my experience, the people are friendly, and cultured. Some posters criticise Turkey in a very vehement fashion, and they may be right. However I think we may have a different world view, if amongst many land borders, we shared ones with Iraq, Iran, Syria, and had a very hostile near neighbour in Greece. Just saying like. Reports tonight of heavy handed policing of gay rights demos certainly raise questions about the Turkish authorities, but IMO the country and its inhabitantsHAIL Could only add to the EU.

    CELTIC

Fantastic news that we have seemingly sold 52 000 season tickets. We can’t compete with wages in the large nations teams, especially our Saxon cousins down south. But it can only make recruitment easier if we can sell the idea of a rocking full Celtic Park. Any player who would not love that experience is a liar.

Both of my daughters played a blinder today with a visit for lunch and gifts of a Lisbon 40th anniversary Hoops (for my upcoming visit to Estadio Naçional, only just over two weeks :)), two bottles of Stella, a box of malteasers and a scratch card.

Mark Lawrensen is so cynical towards foreign teams and players. His whole attitude is disrespectful and dismissive, almost as if he doesn’t want to be there.

An arrogant git of a man.

    ———————————————–

I remember a number of years back before the season kicked off. After their preview of the EPL Lineker asked him who he thought would win the Scottish League. His answer was “Well….who cares really?”.

The guy is an arse, but sadly has been picking up public money for his arrogance from the BBC for years…

Wasn’t it Lawreson who chose the Lisbon Lions as the greatest ever UK side?

    3. To dominate the ‘then’ reserve league LOL :))))))

My favorite hunskelping-journalist Gerry McNee, dedicated his entire page in a Sunday paper, at the top of the page, the pic with Mr Stein and his Lions and all the trophy’s from the 1966-67 season in front of an empty Jungle. I have a cutting of this page in one of my ole Cellic bags up the loft. Gerry says that – “Mr Stein’s Lisbon Lions were by a country mile the greatest footballing side ‘ever’ to play the beautiful game on the British isles.”

The Lisbon Lions can never ever, be praised enough…..imho.

To take on an, institutionally racist, bigoted, hate-filled Scottish society(in the main) then, take on an, institutionally racist, bigoted, hate-filled SFA and, a meddling, scantly regarding, Celtic Hierarchy(I, even in those days) well, Mr Stein was without peer in World Football….imho.

Ole Gerry knew it as well too.

    Numbers are about control.

Control is about who has it.

I think the British govt. should have it.

    No-one else.

  7. Imagine the worst case scenario. Res12 comes to nothing. CFC say nought. EUFA & the SFA are not held to task. This will never be the fault of the requesitioners or WC. But think back 20 years, we would never have known of all the skulduggery going on behind the scenes. Only suspicions and pub gossip. Now it is out there.

Social media is still in it’s early days. These are early attempts to hold people to account. It sets a path for others to follow. Regan and Doncaster have to think twice now.

The biggest failure is the clubs themselves for allowing the whole shooting match to happen. They (the clubs) could have reigned Regan and Doncaster in.

  8. Good morning friends and fishermen from a drizzly, dreich and grey East Kilbride.

  9. Lennoxtown today and Big Bren will be putting the tremblin mince, minging midfield and nae strikers through their infant paces, then we’ll have days of spurious reports about how BR rates this hero and that while we don’t.

The honeymoon for BR lasts until we see the colour of Dermot’s money, it’s high time for a gazebo signing, we”ll or we”ll find out soon If we’re about to get more bangura for our buck.

  13. Lawrenson was at his best last night. “The Albanian fans sound as if they’re going to war, but in a frriendly way”.

  14. Celtic enter the CL qualification at the second round stage, where we play against League of Ireland level, then another game against opponents of the same standard. Then a third game a level higher such as against Malmo, Legia, or similar.

In effect two rounds we should win, then a difficult tie to qualify.

  15. I assume that Celtic will not be releasing any statements this week due to the draw taking place this morning.

    Which is understandable.

    Just wouldn’t be right.

But there will no doubt be a statement at the appropriate time. I’m sure of that.

  16. ” Then a third game a level higher such as against Malmo, Legia, or similar.”

Just so there is no confusion, BSR means two games ,Home and Away, against the Malmo /Legia standard of opponent.
