We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies

1494

Scottish football has afforded defending champions the courtesy of a home game on the first day of the season to allow the league championship flag to be unfurled at the start of the new campaign for as many decades as I remember.

As this has, in effect, become a courtesy to give Celtic a home start to the campaign in as many years as my sons can remember, we’ll be at Tynecastle on the opening day of the season. Flag Day will have to wait.

That said, I like the idea of taking on Hearts away, then our nearest challengers, Aberdeen, at home. Come through this successfully and we will be in excellent shape for the campaign.

The Aberdeen game comes immediately after the final round of European qualifiers, so we have an opportunity to finish August in a real high – if we get the preparatory work done early enough.

Bring it on.  We don’t need no stinkin’ courtesies.

‘migrants travelling to non EU countries require to register their presence’

    Yeah. Fine. So what?

    #####

    ‘provide proof of medical insurance’

ie hold a European Health Insurance Card, which EU migrants will have.

    #####

‘funds to pay for their stay’

Well presumably if they are there to work that won’t be a problem. Though presumably they’ll still be able to undercut wages and conditions. Bit like the Irish when they came to Scotland.

    ####

‘I do have a problem with unscrupulous employers using migrant workers to reduce costs and conditions of the existing workforce’

I’m sure Nigel and Boris agree with you on that, but leaving the EU won’t address the problem or make it any less likely to happen.

  3. Was in a rush for a train from Manchester this morning and in the middle of getting tickets, breakfast and reading material I mistakenly picked up The Spectator rather than a New Statesman.

Never notice till I got on the train, sat down opposite a guy with obv lefty leanings ( badges gave it away) and took it out my bag to read.

Hastily pit it back in my bag.

‘Oh and limited time to stay and find work, that is they can’t just turn up and stay indefinitely, in Norway they have a max of six months or they are sent probably to the nearest EU member country.’

    ####

And can come straight back in again.

For someone who isn’t concerned about EU migrants, you seem to be very concerned about EU migrants

  5. Like Canamalar I have serious concerns about Turkey being welcomed into the EU. Their enclusion would be completely illigitimate based on pretty much every single measurable qualification:-

    Human rights

    Economic

    Political

However, I noted Canamalar that you did the other day compare Turkey’s inclusion to that of Greece. I 100% disagree with you on this. Greece’s inclusion although now proven flawed was not on the same parallel as any inclusion of Turkey. Subsequently the failure of Greece’s economy is not just the fault of Greece’s alone but that of both 2 of the largest economies within Europe France and more so especially Germany who took advantage of Greece, it’s people and sadly it’s people’s corrupt politicians who did not help but profited from Germany’s abuse of the country.

Anyway. My second worry is TTIP which I believe will be the single biggest failure on the part off Europe towards all who live within the Economic borders of the European Union. However I don’t believe Brexit will save us from that for any duration were we have a conservative government as it is firmly my opinion that a Conservative government will sign us up to this criminal piece of legislation no matter the outcome of the Euro referendum.

Personally I don’t have a great knowledge of what exactly it is that the EU brings to our economy. I understand that as part of the EU as a nation we pay a substantial amount towards the running of the EU and towards the decision making. Our countries industries then receive value, to what number it has been difficult to determine, in subsidies towards agriculture, fishing, environmental, national subsidies to Scotland, Wales, NI etc. then the indeterminable trade agreements that bring jobs, trading of goods etc.

There is much much more that the EU provided that protects us as individuals, such as human rights legislation, working hours legislation, equality legislation and so on, workers rights legislation, which I believe would under threat if we Brexit.

Immigration and freedom of movement is an issue for many but this also affords UK nationals the protection of movement and the right to work within the EU economic borders.

There are far too many positives and negatives for me to make a balanced and informed view of what would be the best outcome.

But I have decided based on the right wing racist nature if the campaigning from the Brexit side, it’s politicians, and the right wing media supporting Brexit. For me if these are the types of people pushing for Brexit with largely an argument based on migration and immigration then for me it will be a Remain vote. For all intents and purposes the campaign had turned into and English Nationalist Right Wing campaign to exit based on the lowest level of education.

Under other circumstances I could have been convinced to Brexit if the campaigns had strictly focused on the economic case to exit which they have not come close to doing.

My preference however would still be Scottish Independance working within the European Union without any inclusion of Turkey or TTIP.

Another thing the EU has over the UK going it alone is that the EU is 100% elected while the UK is not (The Lords – Muchelle Mone FFS :-).

I am pretty sure there are loads of positives and negatives to Remain & Brexit but alas how will we ever know when the level of debate falls flatly on immigration into the UK.

MWD that’s all I have to say about that.

    Ernie..,

Currently migrants from other EU countries do not need to register, unless they are claiming benefits. Once registered in Norway they have six months to find work or they are expelled.

An EU medical card is ok fair enough.

How much they need to last the full 6months unemployed will be determined by the UK not Europe, that makes a big difference, no ?

You previously used the Irish example, glad you’ve at least taken on board the difference between refugee and migrant.

I doubt very much they would be serious abut supporting me on that, they are more likely to practice what you are preaching, which is so what if unscrupulous employers use migrant workers to reduce pay and conditions for the existing workforce, and then you being a staunch labour man that attitude no longer surprises me. You lost the working class vote and your blaming the working class because you sold them out. Plastic torys is how your a viewed today by most of labours traditional vote, you chased the middle class too hard and forgot what the party was about.

What the Brexiteers are offering people is a one size fits all solution to all that ails them, with all sorts of fantastic promises that have no basis in reality and thrives on building up up resentment and division against ‘the other’.

Again read carefully, it is you who is concentrating on the migrant question, you have directed this conversation and focused on the migrant question, I am simple responding to your false representation that nothing will change.

    MWD,

My comparison with Greece was not about who destroyed them it was about who audited their application and why they were allowed entry if their application had so many false claims, the same people will do the same with Turkey’s applications have no doubt about it.

  16. CANAMALAR IT LOOKS LIKE OCD OBSESSION on 19TH JUNE 2016 8:22 PM

So you are the target audience for UKIP’s BREAKING POINT poster?

I find it sad that there are people among the Celtic support who hold such views.

  19. Canamalar

There is every chance you are correct on that point as the only reason for Turkey’s inclusion is geographical in relation to it’s position as a neighbour to Middle Eastern enemy states Turkey profits from supporting (therein lies the irony).

  20. Sipsini

Absolutely. But it confuses me that not all unions are backing REMAIN.

Are they more concerned by workers jobs and their jobs being undercut in terms of pay (which is at least protected by EU legislation) over the complete anihalation of those very protections legislated for workers by the EU.

  21. Given the immediate rise in spirit in our supporters and season ticket sales following appointment of Brendan Rodgers I hope the board allow him the funds to sign players he wants even if they break some current internal wages rule. Give him the resources and I’m sure he will still be here when we win ten-in-a-row, with maybe a couple of European competition titles.

  22. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Ernie..,

No, apparently you are the target of that poster, it’s you who bases your whole reasoning In the migrant discussion. It is far more important to you than me, if it’s the only subject you can discuss then obviously it’s.

However go ahead and howl at the moon, in your attempt to label everyone who disagrees with you a racist, obviously only your opinion can possibly be correct, as long as the Labour Party is made up by people like you they are destined to remain in the wilderness, Tony Benn and Geroge Galloway both racists in your argument, because brexit can only ever be about migrants as far as your concerned, just read back a wee bit and identify who actually raised the migrant argument, I think you’ll finger it was you in an attempt to label everyone that don’t agree with you racists. Same as the unionist orange lodge supporters that didn’t vote for independence.
