Wee Oscar 4 Life

1150

If you have been in Celtic Quick News or several other places online in recent months you will be aware of Oscar Knox’ battle against Neuroblastoma.  The CQN community has never been slow to react for those in need.  On this occasion Bundoran Bhoy and Celticrollercoaster have taken the initiative and have launched the Wee Oscar 4 Life campaign.  This is what they plan:

Today we are launching the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ campaign focusing once again on the generosity of the Celtic family and the Celtic Internet community. In the past your generosity has helped better the life of Kano & Vanessa to name but two. Now Wee Oscar needs you 4 life.

Over the next few months, with the full support and endorsement of Wee Oscar’s family, we will be holding a number of events where we will all be able to come together to raise money that will go to helping provide Wee Oscar the immunotherapy treatment he desperately needs to help his young body fight of further attacks of Neuroblastoma (an aggressive form of childhood cancer).

So please look out for confirmation of dates that will be posted over the next couple of weeks, book your tickets for the events, bring your wallets and were possible help us promote the following events:

Wee Oscar 4 Life Celtic Quiz Night (based roughly on the Friday night CQN footie quiz)
Wee Oscar 4 Life Bucket Collection
Wee Oscar 4 Life Race & Auction night

We are also planning a cycle from Glasgow to Belfast for St Patrick’s weekend in March 2013 and will be looking for cyclists to take part in this event to raise funds for the Wee Oscar 4 Life appeal. If you are not from Glasgow there is no reason to stop you organising/participating in a cycle (or maybe even a run or walk) from your local town to Belfast on the same weekend.

Around £80,000.00 pounds has already been donated to the Wee Oscar Appeal and we hope that the ‘Wee Oscar 4 Life’ events detailed above will take Wee Oscar closer to the target of £250,000.00 the family require to raise.

As ever our thoughts and prayers are with Wee Oscar Knox, his Dad Stephen (CQN’s very own Knoxy2000), his Mum Leona and Wee Oscar’s sister and best friend Izzie.

We welcome your continued support and look forward to seeing you over the coming months.

canamalar – really, ok, the point was that typically, you and your pals publish insignificant statistics as scare tactics

    Me and my pals?

    In The Independent?

Also, me? Are you under the impression I’m James Murdoch?

to distract from the real issues like

skunk causes mental illness in some people, while alchohol does it to a lot of people

How is pointing out that skunk causes mental illness distracting from real issues?

If somebody told you not to eat yellow snow, would you tell them not to distract you from real issues, like the fact that those cubes in public urinals aren’t glacier mints?

Single mothers and the disabled have bled the country dry and they must pay the consequence, while tax evasion by business is ignored

increase benefit fraud investigation at the bru and reduce tax fraud investigator numbers. No doubt it will make sense to you, me I just think its creeping fascism.

Really really simple point I thought.

Naw am no a fan a skunk

You could have fooled me after that argument.

Mumble, mumble, something about fascism… big business, single mothers. Yellow snow. (thumbsup)

Don’t know if we are saving it for anyone in particular or if it is a distant relative but the name on it is …..”Robert Malcolm”. The epitaph doesn’t mention FTP so I can’t be sure.

  8. I think many are missing the point with Ki.

Ki is a wonderful player, who will really shine outside of our league. He’s young (23), 6’3, a seasoned international (46 caps), and Olympic medal winner, two footed, speaks multiple languages, and is as comfortable passing the ball as he is driving forward.

I think he’ll have a great season wherever he ends up, and I wish him well.

The sad reality is, he was never going to be the “key” player for us (excuse the pun), simply because his game is not one that caters for playing against 10-men-behind-the-ball, nor with an un-orthodox midfield (where we try and play as many central midfielders as possible in all positions).

I think Swansea will struggle a little this year (I know they played wonderfully on Saturday), and having someone who’s played in Inverness in Winter as well as being able to out-muscle “Elbows” McCulloch in Derby games, will see him become a vital player for a team like that.

Additionally, we need to understand that being in Scotland means that no team from the EPL is ever going to pay the sort of silly money they would pay for a young English player in England.

Its not about our valuation of Ki, it’s about their perception of market value to their fans. There is no point in making comparisons to Joe Allen (15m), Jordan Henderson (20m), or Andy Carrol (35m). Our economy is vastly different to the economy down south, and we need to remember that we’ve only ever “sold” 3 players to the EPL in the last 15 years.

By changing that statistic, even by a player a season, will equate to the same income as a European run for us. The ability, nae desire, to embrace the best aspects of a “selling club” will once again enable us to compete at a higher level than the last few years.

Remember, for every Ki there is a Bangura/Murphy/Rasmussen. My biggest fear is seeing “where is the Ki money” as we near the next transfer window…

Rhodes apparently was a done deal if Ki was sold OR CL qualification was achieved. I think it’ll be

Europa League – Rhodes and a CB to sign.

Champions League – Rhodes, a CB(possible higher profile than above, possible loan) one of Russell/Henriksen(the other potentially in Jan).

Rhodes and a commanding CB whatever happens.

I think Neil has already answered the question by saying it will go to service the debt.

This is a man who could play the game smoking a cigar, but he CANNOT manage our club with both hands tied behind his back and his ankles tied together.

He should NEVER be treated in this way.

  17. ghuys….lets have a wee think about this….If we’ve just sold Ki for £6m….AND we’re going to get £15m from Champs League…AND we’ve saved £3.8m on wages out….should we shout it from the rooftops….especially when considering bids for Russell?…..Rhodes?….or do we say we’re skint?

the ki money will go to balancing the books, ha, balancing the books means paying dividends, milked.

But this year, I do expect a couple of good signings for a change, if the debt goes up, it better be because we spent something on entertaining the support and not because dividends demand settling.

I hope the fund for wee Oscar gets a big boost from the lead article. Donated early doors to the Wee Man’s fund and have watched over the last few weeks hoping for a bigger total to be honest.

I guess when £500K was raised in super quick time for Vanessa Riddle compassion fatigue as it is somehow known might have been a factor but I really hope you get there and get the vital treatment he needs.

I see Taf, her grandfather regularly in the pub so get some updates, its a daily struggle, terrible for the weans and their loved ones.

Lost my great nephew a few years ago to Neuroblastoma, he was two, its a terrible thing to see.

I pray that Wee Oscar recovers completely.
