Weepy incompetent Newco, belligerent Hearts, be Good to each other

808

The SFA’s statement last night clarifies the immediate future of the game, or lack thereof.  No training will be permitted until at least the 10 June and the professional game can start 6 weeks after training.  Without the lockdown being extended, the earliest behind closed doors football game can take place on 22 July.

It would be possible to complete the Premiership by 19 August.  Today’s proposal by the SPFL keeps this option on the table.

The new league season would need to start immediately thereafter, games would almost certainly be played behind closed doors and Uefa would need to delay the start of Champions and Europa League qualification competitions until the last week in August.  I think this is unlikely, but it remains possible.

I understand that Hearts, four points adrift at the bottom, are lashing out in every direction, but they would be better advised to try to win support for league reconstruction than go down the belligerent route.  Maybe Ann Budge should have retained the bonus scheme and avoided all this stress.

Newco’s anger is a pale shadow of what we saw during the Traynor statement years.  It’s all a bit limp for my palette. I like my Newco statements frothing with anger, typed while standing in fermenting urine-soaked shoes with flute music blaring in the background.  Don’t judge me.

Today’s “legal advisor did not deem our Members Resolution as competent” is so weepy all I feel is pity.

This afternoon’s SPFL vote can change only details for Celtic.  The real battle was to make this season Null and Void and our incompetent friends across the city were chased out of town for that suggestion.  Celtic will be champions; nine-in-a-row is ours, whether achieved on the field or after Uefa issue advice to national associations.

It’s also interesting to watch the paranoia triggers.  Our own sufferers’ gas will be at a peep for a while, whereas Newco’s conspiracy theorists were born for these times.  Do not be like any of them, just because the tide goes against you, doesn’t mean The Man is out to get you!  You’re just a little anxious.

I know this is a Terrible Good Friday, but be Good to each other today – and stay indoors all weekend.

  1. When Eric Black played for Aberdeen, I was always impressed with his ability to ” Hang/Hover in the Air” and sending powerful headers towards the opposition Goal……….

    And then …along came Henrik…!

    A Football God.

  2. I’ve just read Dundee’s statement and found myself thinking wtf ? I can’t make head nor tail out of it. They seem to take umbrage to the fact that clubs will be financially worse off. To which I found myself thinking, no sh*t Sherlock, there’s a World wide shut down enforce…

If they’re asking for more money, I think we know who they think should sacrifice. I’d tell them to gtf in no uncertain terms.

  3. In ither news……………

    There’s a phrase that sets the oul’ buzzzzzzzzz’r off automatically……. and that’s

“for the good of Scottish football”……..

….it is invariably uttered by some currant or former hun………..whose motivations are crafty and sleekit.

I’m willing to bet there’s sleekitry afoooooot.

  4. I may be very confused as to what is happening with the SPFL Votes etc…But IF ANY Club…including Dundee…who were going to Vote AGAINST the SPFL Proposals ( and maybe side with The Huns and Hertz), and are now taking more time to think it thru, then that cant be all bad ?

    Just my opinion.

Obviously if Dundee or any other Club are hell bent on seeing out another 28 days of considering how to vote etc…then that 28 day Delay…could seriously impact on other clubs during that period…some Clubs may not be able to wait another 28 Days to get any “Prize Money”….maybe the Huns ?

  5. Message to Dundee FC and Albert Kidd..superstar…

Dundee FC…Since your Chairman is undecided how to vote just now…why not give the Dundee vote to ALBERT KIDD and allow him to decide ?

C’mon Albert son……would you vote for Celtic to be Crowned as Champions right now…You know it makes sense.

    LOL

Hello again all you young rebels.

    BIG JIMMY

I got a wee bit emotional there reading your tribute to Henke.

It was entirely deserved by the great mhan and the only player

who could match your accolade and me being a bit older than

you, would be the original number 7, Jinky Jimmy Johnston.

The only player i’ve ever seen being applauded not just during

the game but after it by the opposition after he destroyed them

    The mighty Real Madrid.

How lucky were we to see both these icons in the flesh?

    SOON did he say SOON.

HURTING HUNS must be really sick and worse to come .thick ones don’t even know what’s coming.

    ………..

    Thanks Mick.

I grew up watching jinky and all The Lisbon Lions…and wee Henke…so Ive been very lucky in that respect.

As much as I loved wee Jinky and wee Henke ( and others)….I have to put Bobby Murdoch as my all time favourite Celtic player that I saw playing.

Such ELEGANCE for such a Big Man, with his passing skills second to none. He LOVED the Hoops and later in his life I was lucky enough to be in his company a couple of times drinking, and Bobby would tell some great Celtic stories…I was in totla awe of this Bhoy/Man…..Truly a Celtic Great.

Obviously Jinky and Henke will forever be in my memory also.

Down the years I have met most of The Lisbon Lions and had many a good blether with them….to a Bhoy…to a Man…each one that I have met have ALL said ( individually)…that Lisbon was “BOBBY’S FINAL”….

as Bobby dominated the game throughout pushing The Celts forward at every opportunity.

They all also say that Bobby nearly missed the Lisbon final because of a ankle injury…but he was so determined to Play, and had his injured ankle strapped up etc…..so he wasnt 100% fit.

When the other Lions tell us that THEY regarded Lisbon as “BOBBY’S FINAL”….Who am I to disagree ?

Stay safe mate and tell PADDY I was asking for him.

    HH

What a GENT and modest Man and Bhoy he was.

I understand that JIMMY, Bobby was imperious and like yourself

i’ve been in his company, and that ankle bothered him for the

    rest of his life.

Always remember going into Bairds and there he was, a legend,

standing at the bar chatting away to awebody, but with a walking

stick, although he still stuck to wearing his brown wincklepickers

    lol.

  11. It has been reported that Dundee actually have full insurance for a pandemic event, one of a small number of clubs with it. If that is true, and it may not be, you must wonder why we don’t have it. From a risk-assessment perspective, a club that can earn 30 million in European football should have an insurance policy that covers the possibility of losing out on that due to football coming to a halt due to a pandemic.

If Wimbledon (tennis) can have the foresight to have such a policy in place then why didn’t football clubs? It is obviously something that insurance companies are/were willing to provide.

The whole point of insurance is covering for the unexpected. Whatever the premium for pandemic cover was 6 months ago, I bet it will be next to impossible to get in the future.

  12. Regarding Wimbeldon (pandemic insurance for a 250 million, 2-week event):

“One senior figure at the Club put the cost of the insurance policy at ‘around the low seven figures’, but it will look like good value in largely preserving the finances of British tennis.

As Sportsmail revealed at the weekend, the All England Club’s Risk and Finance Sub-Committee have long since insisted on a clause covering epidemics, and the policy has been accordingly upgraded in recent years.

The group, which has included some of the Club’s biggest hitters from the world of business over the years, is there to assess potential threats to the tournament happening. Financial director Richard Atkinson and former P&O Director Michael Gradon have been a central figures in ensuring the big fortnight is properly insured.”

  13. DENIABHOY

Do you know for sure we did not have this type of insurance (business interruption) in place?

I’d be surprised if we didn’t.

  14. I was under the impression that all the SPFl Clubs have Pandemic Insurance bar one.

I have absolutely no idea if that is true or not but I most certainly read it somewhere.

Second point is if Clubs have Insurance it may be limited, Football Income varies widely and is made up from a whole series of sources, Season Tickets, Prize Money, Sponsorship, Hospitality, Profit/Loss on Players Sales, Kit Contracts etc.

It could be difficult to quantify how much an Individual Club might have lost due to Pandemic & Insurance Companies are expert in finding loopholes & minimising their payouts.

I imagine any Business Interruption Policy would help a Club but not solve all problems.

Big Clubs in England are cutting wages & even Clubs like Barcelona are facing major cutbacks so quite obviously Insurance is not a panacea for all problems relating to this virus lockdown,

  15. blantyretim is praying for the Knox family on

Not being a business person but thought companies had liability insurance and would probably have insurance for disasters such as storm damage etc so they could claim this wasn’t an act of god as sone insured try to use to get out of paying

Only certainty being taxes ,ni contributions and insurance premiums will go up

If they go up to rebuild our infrastructure I’ve no problem but they will go up to increase the wealth of the already super rich who manipulate this country via their newspapers and channels

God rest the souls of those who have Lost their lives not just to covid but for whatever reason

  16. Further on the Insurance, my Daughter has her own small Business and did have a Policy for Business Interruption due to a Contagious Disease.

However when she inquired about it, she was told either herself or one the staff would have needed to actually contract the virus to enable her to make a claim & apparently the same is true for 90% of Insurance Policies.

Again regarding Football, I feel the main losses won’t hit till next Season.

Re the insurance and catching virus being a get out clause .

I wonder how that will work ,when many people get the test and the results show the person has had the virus.

    Just a thought .

  18. Corkcelt.

    Seemingly only 6.

    Dundee are one of them.

Dundee are one of just six Scottish clubs who are fully insured for loss of earnings caused by a global pandemic.

The Dens Park club have been pushing for a different outcome from the SPFL’s proposals but the Championship outfit aren’t facing the same financial pressures that other clubs are.

That’s why so many clubs were prepared yesterday to take such drastic action, end the season across the three lower leagues while placing the Premiership on pause until the end of this month when it is expected UEFA will back down on hardline threats to dish out bans from next season’s European competitions to any country which declares the domestic season over.

  19. CORKCELT

When you buy an insurance policy you should know exactly what it covers before you buy.

I also think your insurance companies know all the loopholes to minimise paypouts is a bit unfair.

I worked for or in insurance for more than 40 years.

I saw many claims declined because the “insured” was not totally truthful when completing applications.

Not always lying I might add, but forgetting to list material facts is just as bad.

Anyway I hope you are well and wish your daughter the best.

  20. have anyone seen janny godley spoofs she is amazing like me hails from the galllowgate hail hail

  21. Good morning this Holy Saturday from a sunny North Staffs.

Any insurances in place will probably put an onus on the club to mitigate any losses. Hence taking advantage of the furloughing of staff etc.

  22. Sometimes I wonder bout the insurance implication to our game.

    Football is a contact sport,

Do we ask the players to give away their right to sound health? So we can watch football?

And even then how do we organise social distancing inside the ground?

All wrapped up in how we asset manage our

    team in general sales,loans,incoming.

There is a lot to think on

    HH

  23. Philbhoy – no, of course I don’t know. Pure speculation on my part and unquestionably jumping the gun.

My thinking is that most reports are about football clubs going to the wall because they have no cash flow.

If a season is cancelled for a pandemic, and you have insurance, you can clearly show your business has lost out on earnings and what the event is going to cost you. Based on all of the existing data, it is not hard to be accurate on what the closure is costing you.

In which case, I don’t see why you would have to cut wages etc as that is what the insurance policy would cover.

Maybe the cost of such an insurance policy was deemed by most clubs to be too high as such an event had never happened before . . . risk assessment and all that.

  24. Big Jimmy just read your comments about Bobby Murdoch and what a great mhan he was. Met him in the Celtic hotel in Estoril the morning after Lisbon and congratulated him on the tremendous second goal that he had scored. From the angle that I was seated at, I did not see Stevie touch the ball. In a very short time and in a nice way Bobby put me right about the scorer. Nevertheless he had contributed greatly to the build up.

  25. This may not be an entirely accurate analogy but it’s an image that came to mind this morning .

Scottish football is like a school .

The local council is UEFA but they are too busy covering up a contracts scandal to really be interested in what happens within the schools .

The heidy is obviously the SFA and the teacher is the SPFL .

Celtic sits at the front of the class with jotter , pencil case , protractor , slide rule , ruler , rubber and dictionary all neatly arranged on his desk .

He is always well presented and always has his homework done .

Let’s face it , Celtic is the class swot .

Sevco is the big bully and he sits at the back of the class .

He replaced another bully who got sent to a remand home halfway through the term but everyone pretends it’s the same bully .

Consumed with envy he picks on Celtic at every opportunity . Celtic never retaliates .

Sevco is so big that the teacher is feart and lets him away with murder .

His gang (axis of evil) includes Hearts & Motherwell .

He cheated in the last class exam but the teacher knows that the heidy knows Sevco’s da from the lodge , so did nothing about it .

Celtic knew all this but kept quiet .

Aberdeen and Hibs are quite big kids (and loath Sevco) : however , they don’t want to rock the boat so steer well clear of Celtic .

Everyone laughs at Saint Johnstone because he comes from the country side and talks funny .

St Mirren is the snottery nosed kid .

Livingston , Hamilton and Kilmarnock are in the remedial section and are happy to play with lumps of coloured plasticine .

Despite all of the above , Celtic knows that he will be announced dux again at end of term .

  26. DENIABHOY

Business Interruption policies do not cover wages.

They cover loss of profits caused by an insured event.

The sum assured under such a policy might amount to 2 or 3 years profits, depending on the type of business.

  27. AN TEARMANN

The Aberdeen chappie had a lot to say but DID NOT name the insurance company.

    Why not?

I think we should be told!

It indicates to me he is not sure of his ground and perhaps did nt understand the terms of the policy.

Sounds to me like a one year renewable protection policy.

Like Lenny’s 12 month rolling contract.

Cancelled or amende by either party after each 12 months.
