Weepy incompetent Newco, belligerent Hearts, be Good to each other

808

The SFA’s statement last night clarifies the immediate future of the game, or lack thereof.  No training will be permitted until at least the 10 June and the professional game can start 6 weeks after training.  Without the lockdown being extended, the earliest behind closed doors football game can take place on 22 July.

It would be possible to complete the Premiership by 19 August.  Today’s proposal by the SPFL keeps this option on the table.

The new league season would need to start immediately thereafter, games would almost certainly be played behind closed doors and Uefa would need to delay the start of Champions and Europa League qualification competitions until the last week in August.  I think this is unlikely, but it remains possible.

I understand that Hearts, four points adrift at the bottom, are lashing out in every direction, but they would be better advised to try to win support for league reconstruction than go down the belligerent route.  Maybe Ann Budge should have retained the bonus scheme and avoided all this stress.

Newco’s anger is a pale shadow of what we saw during the Traynor statement years.  It’s all a bit limp for my palette. I like my Newco statements frothing with anger, typed while standing in fermenting urine-soaked shoes with flute music blaring in the background.  Don’t judge me.

Today’s “legal advisor did not deem our Members Resolution as competent” is so weepy all I feel is pity.

This afternoon’s SPFL vote can change only details for Celtic.  The real battle was to make this season Null and Void and our incompetent friends across the city were chased out of town for that suggestion.  Celtic will be champions; nine-in-a-row is ours, whether achieved on the field or after Uefa issue advice to national associations.

It’s also interesting to watch the paranoia triggers.  Our own sufferers’ gas will be at a peep for a while, whereas Newco’s conspiracy theorists were born for these times.  Do not be like any of them, just because the tide goes against you, doesn’t mean The Man is out to get you!  You’re just a little anxious.

I know this is a Terrible Good Friday, but be Good to each other today – and stay indoors all weekend.

  1. The Kenny Dalglish Covid19 hi-lights the problem of the “test” .

He’s found positive while having no symptoms.

That because most of us already have remnants of old corona in our systems.

The test does not distinguish between todays virus and older stuff.

The tests they are all calling for a not very helpful.

  2. Philbhoy – thanks for the info. It will be an interesting side line to keep an eye on. I read that the Wimbledon policy covered it for 250 million. The British Open (Golf) apparently has a similar policy.

So they stand to lose little or nothing when it sorts itself out.

I believe Wimbledon’s policy had an annual premium just in excess off a million, and covered £250,000,000.

Our policy would have been much less, based on our annual profits.

If I was Celtic and I had a policy in place I would be shouting it from the rooftops as a GIRFUY to the mankies,

    Wouldn’t you?

Hope you are as good as you can be.

  5. DENIABHOY

Not sure but my guess is that Wimbledon and the Open’s insurance would be arranged through Lloyds of London.

These are syndicates who get together and underwrite various risks.

The syndicates are funded by fat cats, very rich and probably tories, so make of that what you will.

    Take care

  6. Its now being “Reported” that Dundee DID in fact vote AGAINST The SPFL Proposal but the SPFL Claim that they didnt receive it ?

Subsequently, Dundee are having a rethink about their original “vote” ?

IF the above is true and Dundee DID Vote..but for some reason the SPFL didnt receive it it MIGHT mean that the Huns DID contact the SPFL more than once…but the SPFL only received one on Thursday night ?

Maybe there was/is a problem with The SPFL’s communication with Dundee and the Huns….I mean the Huns WILL no doubt have DOCUMENTED EVIDENCE of contacting the SPFL on more than one occasion….wont they ?

  9. I don’t think Celtic would make our insurance details public. I don’t know if we’re covered or not, at £100 million turnover, you’d like to think we had good insurance coverage but there’s no way we’d make any details public. That’s not how I see Celtic operate.

    That’s quite common.

As I understand it if he had had Covid 19 and had recovered the test would have been negative. There is not, as yet, a reliable test that can detect those who have recovered (an antibody test).

  17. Furious Rangers MD Stewart Robertson rounds on fellow SPFL directors after Ibrox resolution booted out

A question mark hangs over Robertson’s position on league board.

Rangers managing director Stewart Robertson let rip at his fellow SPFL board directors after the Ibrox ‘members resolution’ was booted out on coronavirus crisis plan deadline day.

As the vote on how to deal with the remainder of the season careered towards a no verdict outcome last night, Rangers had their own counter proposal KO’d by league chiefs.

Rangers’ plan – to keep the season alive indefinitely but distribute prize money immediately – bit the dust after failing a ‘competence’ test.

That led to a war of words over the timing of Rangers’ submission – with SPFL chiefs insisting they hadn’t been asked to assist with the wording of the Ibrox resolution until after 10pm on Thursday evening.

Robertson – elected onto the league board last July – is understood to have rounded on fellow SPFL directors and accused them of failing in their duties to look after the game’s best interests during a bad tempered board meeting.

Record Sport understands board members were taken aback. A source said: “Stewart is normally a respectful and reasonable man.

“We have never seen him act in such a way before. It’s almost as if he’s reading a script that’s been written for him by someone else.”

Rangers issued a stinging statement on Friday morning after revealing their members’ resolution had been chucked out.

They accused the SPFL of bullying clubs into supporting the league’s own proposal.

It’s now widely anticipated that, as part of the fall-out from yesterday’s events, Robertson’s own position on the SPFL board will be judged to be untenable.

Despite all this, the SPFL have agreed to help redraft Robertson’s resolution which could yet see it going forward as a proposal to be voted on by all 42 clubs.

  20. Hi all

Not posted in a while so just wanted to say I hope everyone is well and safe. Also condolences to anyone who has lost family or friends during these dark times.

My other reason for posting is I have been reading the SSN ticker along bottom of the screen and it is reporting THE Rangers as making accusations of corruption and having received reports of bullying and coercion of clubs to vote for the proposal.

    1) Rangers – Corruption – Moral High Ground HAHAHAHAHA

    2) My recollection of the reason Turnbull Hutton, and others, refused to parachute Charlie Green’s new club into the Championship was the bullyboy tactics of Doncaster and co along with the arrogant attitude of Charlie and his huns in assuming they would get their way without any quibble. Shoe now on the other foot and they don’t like it. In a properly run league they would be hammered for bringing game into disrepute but won’t hold my breath

    3) has any journalist pointed out the hypocrisy of asking for the prize money but not wanting the prizes handed out at the same time?

    4) Why would other clubs contact Sevco to tell them about bullying? You would think Sevco were trying to paint themselves as the de-facto leader of Scottish football that the “lesser” clubs look to for guidance and leadership. Delusions of adequacy methinks.

Well back to lurking for me. So stay safe everyone.

  21. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

Very enjoyable reading back 6 pages of comments.

From what I can gather ….

    – the SMSM don’t know anything about anything but that doesn’t stop them presenting uninformed conjecture as fact (in this case about clubs’ voting intentions).

    – Insurance companies don’t carry as much cash as people think and are not Santa.

    – Stewart Robertson might be feeling a bit stressed.

Poor guy – how could you spin his tenure on your CV or at a job interview?

“So, Stewart you were a bean counting non-entity then you were the SECRETARY (not the MD or CEO) of a small business (£2m turnover) ….

… but then you hit the big time and became the MD of Scotland’s second most important institution …..

…. how did that work out?”

“Eh, on my watch it was liquidated and I didn’t get paid for the last six months”.

“Well thanks for coming in Stewart”

Companies need to display a PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE CERTIFICATE where it can be easily read by staff and public .

Otherwise their insurance is their own business.

    All good here thanks!

  25. Insurance companies. Someone mentioned above that premiums will undoubtedly go up. Not sure if they meant in relation to disruption of business or in general.

Made me think. With so few cars on the road, the number of claims must be negligible. And concomitant payouts negligible.

Good time for the car insurance companies. And may house insurance – less break ins for example.

So will the renewal down? Not holding my breath.

  26. Dundee holding on to their vote to see if ‘thems’ don’t survive and with no money handout from SPL and allow Dundee to get promoted into top league.
