Welcome Mikael Lustig

344

A big Celtic welcome to Mikael Lustig, 24-year-old Swedish defender, who will join in January on a contract that runs until summer 2015, after leaving Rosenborg on a free contract.  At 6’3” he can play in central defence but more commonly plays as an attacking right back.

With the ever-promising Adam Matthews, Mark Wilson and Cha Du-Ri already competing for the right back slot you would intuitively think Mikael is more likely to be used in what has become known as Celtic’s troublesome central defensive positions, despite Neil Lennon’s “he can play both positions, but he´s predominantly a right-back” comment.  Cover at right back is susceptible to change, however.  Mark Wilson will be injured well into 2012 and Celtic are unlikely to stand in the way of Cha, who is surplus to requirements most weeks, which leaves only teenage Matthews to see us through the business end of the season.

On paper he ticks all the boxes, right price, right experience and has been tested in European and international football.  With Jos Hooiveld likely to be off the books in January, for what could yet be a promising career in the English Premier League, to the amazement of several SPL players I’ve spoken to, Mikael should strengthen the squad.

  1. Celtic in Paradise, leaving in ten minutes

Daddy started out in San Francisco,

Tootin’ on his trumpet loud and mean.

Suddenly a voice said, “Go forth, Daddy.

Spread the picture on a wider screen.”

And the voice said, “Daady, there’s a million pigeons

Ready to be hooked on new religions.

Hit the road, Daddy. Leave your common-law wife.

Spread the religion of the rhythm of life.”

And the rhythm of life is a powerful beat,

Puts a tingle in your fingers and a tingle in your feet,

Rhythm in your bedroom, rhythm in the street,

Yes, the rhythm of life is a powerful beat.

To feel the rhythm of life,

    To feel the powerful beat,

To feel the tingle in your fingers,

To feel the tingle in your feet.

Daddy spread the gospel in Milwaukee,

Took his walkie-talkie to Rocky Ridge,

Blew his way to Canton, then to Scranton,

Till he landed under the Manhattan Bridge.

Daddy was the new sensation, got himself a congregation,

Built up quite an operation down below.

With the pie-eyed piper blowing, while the muscatel was flowing,

All the cats were go, go, going down below.

Daddy we got the rhythm of life,

Of life, of life, of life.

    Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

    Man!

    Mon the Hoops

  2. David Peter Deans on

I just wonder if Neil Lennon knows what his best side is when all players are fully fit. Going forward i would like to think we will have a fulltime goalkeeper come the January transfer window whether it be Forster or maybe Gordon, with possibly another quality striker.

Not long to kick off. Come on you Hoops. Oh and by the way Celtic keep playing in the Hoops and not the Yellow bumble bee kit.

  3. Vmhan – I gets ya……..

thought i had to reschedule my wifes TV viewing for the evening. Would have needed the old dutch courage! I am banished to t’internet land then! Of course I won’t be doing anything of the sort.

    Cheers

  4. David Peter Deans – last two difficult away games we have worn the hoops. Big pressure on both games. 2 good results.

It’s only partly a coincidence. Look like a Beezer Homes league team – play like one. Look like Celtic Football Club – play like them.

If we have to have an away top, and I suppose we do, then it should be plain white or plaing green with a green trim or a white trim. Simples.

When teams look at us they have to be reminded they are playing The Celtic and that they are not worthy.

  5. Parkheadcumsalford @ 17.32

If vested interests could be overcome this would be a terrific League with TV networks queuing up for broadcasting rights with teams operating out of five major cities like Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Dublin, Cork, Belfast, Derry and regional provincial and possibly some continental teams. Many of the current clubs would have to go or amalgamate. It has been a big success in rugby with Celtic league teams capable of beating the very best English and French teams in European competition.

  6. Mearns 2 milton – imagine! Momentum is hard to build but it’s easily lost.

We MUST blow the Pars away and do the same on Saturday to give them their first real pressure game in the league this season.

All that matters tonight is a good win for Celtic. I hope our young team are not carried away with the last three results.

A wee bit nervous about tonight but until we have won about 10 on the bounce I think that will be the case about every game.

    No predictions from me.

Laters Bhoys and Ghirls. Off to Google land…………………………………………………..

  7. RobertTressel,

Couldn’t agree with you more. It should always be the Hoops, unless we need to change, which shouldn’t be often. Then, the strip should be one worthy of Celtic; not the rubbish that Nike or whoever dreams up.

  8. who should be the captain tonite lhads??

if i was picking i would pick ledley

i think NL will pick kayal

  9. The Battered Bunnet on

    Robert T

Momentum is a massive thing. If momentum is easily lost, then you didn’t actually have momentum. What you had was hope.

    I hope we have momentum…

Izzy is training and may possibly be involved on Sat. Dont know about Kelvin.

Was at Celtic Park for the “Lunch with the manager” yesterday and Neil said that Izzy was the furthest away from the team – maybe training soon. Kelvin a couple of weeks, Broony next week, Glenn and Charlie should be good for this weekend

Ragers settled out of court an alleged debt!

    Alleged?

What next an alleged draw against St Johnstone?

  12. Just before tonight’s game gets underway it might be worth noting that currently Celtic are 7/4 to win the SPL and 9/1 for the domestic treble.

    Just saying like.

  13. I’ve very funny feelings – tonight’s going to be one of those ICT type no shows, hope I’m very wrong

  14. Evening Bhoys,

In light of recent events the Philvisreturns appreciation society have called an extraordinary general meeting at the Bullingdon Club tonight at 8.30. There are some dissenting voices in the ranks. It would seem recent 1st post failures are coming back to haunt the once great one. See you there tonight.
