Welcome Mikael Lustig

344

A big Celtic welcome to Mikael Lustig, 24-year-old Swedish defender, who will join in January on a contract that runs until summer 2015, after leaving Rosenborg on a free contract.  At 6’3” he can play in central defence but more commonly plays as an attacking right back.

With the ever-promising Adam Matthews, Mark Wilson and Cha Du-Ri already competing for the right back slot you would intuitively think Mikael is more likely to be used in what has become known as Celtic’s troublesome central defensive positions, despite Neil Lennon’s “he can play both positions, but he´s predominantly a right-back” comment.  Cover at right back is susceptible to change, however.  Mark Wilson will be injured well into 2012 and Celtic are unlikely to stand in the way of Cha, who is surplus to requirements most weeks, which leaves only teenage Matthews to see us through the business end of the season.

On paper he ticks all the boxes, right price, right experience and has been tested in European and international football.  With Jos Hooiveld likely to be off the books in January, for what could yet be a promising career in the English Premier League, to the amazement of several SPL players I’ve spoken to, Mikael should strengthen the squad.

  1. Good attacking line-up and a decent bench.

Hopefully we’ll be cruising early door and get some of the young bhoys out for a decent run.

If that is the team selection for tonight, im a little worried about the midfield. If lenny ask Commons and Forrest to play wide we could be vunerable through the centre of midfield with only Kayal and Ki. Unless he is going with 3 at the back and playing Ledley in the midfield, On paper it looks like Ledley playing at Fullback. Our back line needs protection as we all know from the midfield.

  5. Welcome to Paradise Mikael, may your stay be a successful and enjoyable sojourn in your career. We now have the Welsh, Swedish and South Korean right backs at our disposal. A pleasing selection dilemma to have.

Recent defensive acquisitions have seem certainly to fall into the bigger and taller bracket- like it. The picture of Andre Blackman posted earlier standing toe-to-toe and having a laugh with big Victor, whilst looking almost identical in physique bodes well. Andre’s temperament will only improve hanging around Victor too, who’s tender years belie his obvious maturity and professional attitude.

Warm greetings big fellow to the greatest Club in the world, CELTIC. Aren’t you a lucky bhoy getting the chance to play for CELTIC. Cherish it and become a legend.

We seem to be getting a few decent youngun’s like “Stan” Mathews who is a real find and if young Blackman is as good as the hype then brilliant. Mr McCawber springs to mind though and we must start punting a few to balance the books so to speak.

Ki, Broony and a few others can go for me.

As I said before 4 -0 to the good guys

  7. My previous post would seem disingenuous to Mark Wison, whom I regard as the consummate Celtic man: polite, articulate and quietly self confident. Sorry son, hope to see you back in the Hoops soon.

Not a great deal of ammo on the bench tonight.

    Don’t know about that.
