Westminster MPs ready to accommodate Administrators

572

A group of Westminster MPs are set to accommodate administrators Rangers FC PLC in London tomorrow in the hope of using whatever influence they have to pull a deal together.  Political interference in distressed companies is not uncommon but on this occasion the risks of collateral damage are enormous.

Fifa strictly prohibits political interference in football matters and has banned national teams and their representative clubs from international competition for matters as trivial as politically motivated appointments, never mind overt political lobbying on behalf of a football club in tax delinquency.

Prime Minister, David Cameron, commented on Rangers situation last week, although unlike Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, he limited himself to a neutral comment, however, I hear that Treasury officials have already been lobbied to exert pressure on HM Revenue and Customs to agree to whatever necessary to prevent Rangers from suffering the consequences of not paying tax.

Ironically, it’s Celtic and the Scotland national team who are set to suffer.  Craig Levein hopes to take his Scotland team into the World Cup qualifying tournament in September while Neil Lennon will hope to give his Celtic team a chance to qualify for the Champions League.  Fifa would be delighted to take the British government and football associations down a notch or two after the accusations of bribery at the international body emanating from England when their bid to host the World Cup perished.

Duff and Phelps have nothing to lose from meeting the MPs but with so much at stake for Scotland, Celtic and our other European entrants next season, the Scottish and London politicians must rein-in their over political interference and the SFA must get off their backsides and remind everyone of Fifa rules.

If these MPs are supporters of the bankrupt sou side mob, I can’t see them being persuaded from interfering. They will probably see it as a way of punishing us and Scotland for daring to question their dignity and integrity.

    —————–

I can only assume that they must be SNP, Labour DUP and the 1 Tory. i can’t see why English MPs would become involved? That would open the door to why no action has been taken to help Portsmouth or Leeds when they went into administration. If they are Scots based MPs perhaps they will be vunerable to changed voting allegiances – would you vote for a party that openly supported the resurrection of the Dark side and all that entails?

    Fholks,

They can lobby all they like……HMRC must proceed with the best interests of the tax payer in mind…….And with everything else they have been up to, they will be going down the tubes anyway…….I blame caflick schools

  3. I wonder who these MPs are?. I wonder if Portsmouth FC are being afforded the same advantages, or indeed any distressed company with strong local roots. I would have thought that Westminster MPs would have run a mile from TFOD in their current plight. Its all so depressingly predicatable. How can they possibly defend them to the detrimet of Scottish football as a whole?? Sinister developments driven by a Masonic agenda – call me paranoid.

  4. Good to know that MPs are spending time on the important matters facing them???????I’m with Monty Brewster when it comes to voting;”none of the above.”Bunch of no-marks.

Good article Paul67,keep up the good work.

  5. No objection to the huns not going into liquidation as long as they pay back every penny

this will cripple them for years ….in fact so much so that imo they will dip in and out administration for many years ..ala pompey

  6. Isn’t that ‘pillar’ Bercow a self-confessed supporter of thems?

    Seems a good fit actually.

  7. I’m sure the MP’s that are meeting the Admin are in the Westminster Rangers Supporters Club.

Who they are or how many of them, sorry, I don’t know but I’m sure someone will find out.

Don’t kid yoursel that it is only hun loving MP’s who shamelessly prostitute their position to help them.

Step forward James Francis Murphy, spineless runt and MP who has done more in his official capacity to help the huns than any blue nose MP.

There is no level to low for Rangers to stoop in order to survive they see themselves as the Establishment club and no one has the right to take them to task for wrong doing.MPs as we know come in all shades of politics and many hold high office in the Masonic Lodge and see it is there right to help the troubled club these people know no shame. We have to understand they will use any tatic to wriggle off the hook they find themselves on and they would be happy to right off Rangers tax debts we can only hope that HMRC stand up to the pressure that they are being put under and that the masonic element in the revenue can be voted down.I said at the start of tis saga we would be surprised as we havnt seen anything yet an if the orcs backers can keep them afloat with tax payers money you better believe they are prepared to resort to that. These people think there club have done no wrong and that its a Taig conspiracy to undermine them there is nothing so blind as those who cannot see. H.H.

  11. If HMRC, a British/UK entity, are lobbied by British MPs in the British house of Commons in London then surely Fifa/Uefa would punish all the component parts of the British/UKs football associations. Wonder what Man City,Man United, Arsenal,Liverpool,Spurs etc think about that, not to mention Engerlund being turfed out of the upcoming Euro Championships.

  13. Thanks for the answer Paul67. What about the third one? Do they commonly make representation to politicians? And as for this being common practice and all that there is just something about it that seems wrong. I know a few people who have lost businesses as a result of other businesses owing them money and administrators coming in and deciding that they get hee haw. That these administrators have any connection to the ailing business seems ludicrous to me. But hey ho.

Nothing will happen from this, still a list of the MPs would be useful.

Going back to Ogilvy, his survival depends on what if anything comes out with his fingerprints on it, in the FTT decision.

All the other daily revelations will be chicken feed compared to the FTT. I am not sure how the current SFA investigation can cover everything off until the FTT findings, so I am expecting another investigation very soon.

At the start of the second half,Souness said Napoli couldnae defend.

Erm,Graeme,I think you’ll find it’s Chelsea who are mince at the back, and struggling to even test the other defence.

I wonder what Portsmouth’s administrators and supporters will be thinking too. Do they go down the same route and if so does the FA step in and say NO? The can of worms it seems is bottomless!

  20. With regards to the threadbares and government involvement, what have THEY got to lose? If the tax case goes against them they are out of Europe anyway, if Scottish teams get kicked out it will stop other teams building while they are down.

    Was thinking the same myself!

  22. why wouldn’t they Paul67, they do what they want but maybe just maybe, they’ve cheated too far this time

  23. Hi Guys,

I was listening to Clyde on Saturday when Keevins announced that Duff & Co said the “big” tax bill wasn’t going to arrive till April.

D King then stated that it signalled the end of the hunz European hopes for next season. Then, he suddenly realised that the Well v Hearts game was effectively a Champions League Qualification eliminator. He later mentioned that the crowd was about 5,000.

    This got me thinking.

I think the hunz (and us) take about 3,500 to each away ground twice a season.

I wondered how many would have been there on Saturday if they had known for a week what might have been at stake. I reckon 10,000 – 12,000.

Now, think what could happen next season in a hunless SPL. Imagine after the split having Well, Hearts, Aberdeen, Dundee Utd & Well slugging it out for 2nd place and a chance of a coveted CL appearance. Surely, they would get attendances sufficient to dwarf the loss of 7,000 hunz per season?

If any of you are speaking to Gordon Dalziel you could maybe put this to him and, as a big Well fan, ask him if he still thought the SPL needed a strong rangers.

  24. Is there anyone at the treasury office we can write to to alert them to the fact that should they act on behalf of rangers that they will be damaging Scottish football and potential taxable income streams for clubs and national association alike?

  25. Paul67, perhaps it is time for Celtic to remind the SFA about UEFA rules, getting a wee bit worried about these developments, missing out on the CL would be very costly for us.

A group of MPs today put political differences aside to set up a supporters club for their favourite football team.

A group of MPs today put political differences aside to set up a supporters club for their favourite football team.

The Rangers supporters club at Westminster is chaired by former Defence Minister Adam Ingram, an avid fan of the Glasgow club.

And it already has members from across the political spectrum.

Baron Jim Wallace, the former leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats and now a member of the House of Lords, is a vice-chairman along with Conservative MP Eleanor Laing and Democratic Unionist Gregory Campbell.

Labour MP Brian Donohoe is secretary of the club which has already attracted around 20 members.

Mr Ingram, who worked alongside Celtic chairman John Reid at the Northern Ireland Office and the Ministry of Defence, told the official Rangers FC website: “We expect there to be more interest in the coming weeks.

“There are officers of the House, police officers and others who work for MPs. Anyone who works within the Palace of Westminster would be eligible to join.”

Mr Ingram, MP for East Kilbride, admitted members will find it difficult to get to games due to political commitments.

But he added: “This is a group of people who are all Rangers supporters and want to identify themselves with the club, and that can take many forms.

“I was a regular at Ibrox for about three seasons, but when I became a minister ten years ago my Saturdays were at a premium.

“I was working Sunday to Monday and I simply didn’t have time to get to games, but no matter where I have travelled in the world I have tried to listen to or watch games when they are on.”
