Westminster MPs ready to accommodate Administrators

572

A group of Westminster MPs are set to accommodate administrators Rangers FC PLC in London tomorrow in the hope of using whatever influence they have to pull a deal together.  Political interference in distressed companies is not uncommon but on this occasion the risks of collateral damage are enormous.

Fifa strictly prohibits political interference in football matters and has banned national teams and their representative clubs from international competition for matters as trivial as politically motivated appointments, never mind overt political lobbying on behalf of a football club in tax delinquency.

Prime Minister, David Cameron, commented on Rangers situation last week, although unlike Scottish First Minister, Alex Salmond, he limited himself to a neutral comment, however, I hear that Treasury officials have already been lobbied to exert pressure on HM Revenue and Customs to agree to whatever necessary to prevent Rangers from suffering the consequences of not paying tax.

Ironically, it’s Celtic and the Scotland national team who are set to suffer.  Craig Levein hopes to take his Scotland team into the World Cup qualifying tournament in September while Neil Lennon will hope to give his Celtic team a chance to qualify for the Champions League.  Fifa would be delighted to take the British government and football associations down a notch or two after the accusations of bribery at the international body emanating from England when their bid to host the World Cup perished.

Duff and Phelps have nothing to lose from meeting the MPs but with so much at stake for Scotland, Celtic and our other European entrants next season, the Scottish and London politicians must rein-in their over political interference and the SFA must get off their backsides and remind everyone of Fifa rules.

  1. As someone who has to deal with a whole lot of admin stuff (NOT in the R*C sense of the word), I do know that any organisation with HM at the start of their title, usually shows little mercy.

Their rules are often frustratingly bald, but they do have a set of rules and standards, to which they must comply.

I’ve no experience of HMRC, but plenty dealings with HM organisations.

If they were to crumble, or bend to ‘public opinion’, regardless of “political” backing, it would damage their reputation beyond repair.

I hope in this instance they stick to their clear guidelines and protocols, and do not bow to political pressure.

  2. MPs form Rangers supporters’ club at Westminster

A group of MPs today put political differences aside to set up a supporters club for their favourite football team.

A group of MPs today put political differences aside to set up a supporters club for their favourite football team(in Administration)

The Rangers supporters club at Westminster is chaired by former Defence Minister Adam Ingram, an avid fan of the Glasgow club(in Administration)

And it already has members from across the political spectrum.

Baron Jim Wallace, the former leader of the Scottish Liberal Democrats and now a member of the House of Lords, is a vice-chairman along with Conservative MP Eleanor Laing and

    Democratic Unionist Gregory Campbell.

Labour MP Brian Donohoe is secretary of the club which has already attracted around 20 members.

Mr Ingram, who worked alongside Celtic chairman John Reid at the Northern Ireland Office and the Ministry of Defence, told the official Rangers FC(In Administration) website: “We expect there to be more interest in the coming weeks.

“There are officers of the House, police officers and others who work for MPs. Anyone who works within the Palace of Westminster would be eligible to join.”

Mr Ingram, MP for East Kilbride, admitted members will find it difficult to get to games due to political commitments.

But he added: “This is a group of people who are all Rangers supporters and want to identify themselves with the club, and that can take many forms.

“I was a regular at Ibrox for about three seasons, but when I became a minister ten years ago my Saturdays were at a premium.

“I was “working” Sunday to Monday and I simply didn’t have time to get to games, but no matter where I have travelled in the world I have tried to listen to or watch games when they are on.”

…“I smell liquid”… feel free to steal it.

    To you all:

Listening to Brian Donohue, you could hear the certainty in his voice when he replied after financial expert said that his opinion had not changed too much on his prediction of liquidation. To paraphrase, liquidation will not happen a deal will be done…he sounded convincing, I thought…not!! Was he talking as an MP or a follower of them or may be in his capacity of some other organisation, I’ll let you all decide.

On the CVA, why do they do they persist on this idea, no way, no way…who has the money or more accurately who should have the money, our hero. Who by the Gate Keepers admission has defaulted on payment plans already. And then by our Hero’s own words he was prepared to pay £2.5 million a year in advance of the big decision.

If HMRC were going to do a CVA, it would have been done by now.

They really are clinging on by their finger nails, half mast trouser legs and straps of their Aprons…be gone with them.

    Keep the Faith!

    Hail Hail!

  6. So, after today being proved to have LIED on where the funds came from to clear the LBG debt, Whyte now declares he’s personally up for £27m to Ticketus and is quite willing to ‘walk away’. This means he is liable to repay Ticketus himself? No Ticketus debt for THEM?

  7. AAFG, no problem, Alex.

Kojo, Our Hero suggested that he would not return as chairman after administration. This, I suggest, is moot.

I don’t expect him back on these shores without an international treaty.

Possilbhoy, true, true. They’re grasping at straws.

  8. What is the script with this Celtic FC became a different entity in 1994?

    A change of name?

    Were Celtic liquidated?

    NEVER

    End of discussion.

It isn’t about a name change, their future is about a whole lot more than that.

There was also some uber nutjob on Clyde the other night who stated that Desmond White and Bob Kelly came back from the world club Championship with a suitcase of Argentine money and they used it to strengthen Celtic in 1967 and that they were Tax evaders.

Closer inspection of where he got this from was the Celtic Wiki and a story told by one of the green brigade on one of their forums:

Apparently this was the gate money from the play off in Montevideo (which was Uruguayan not Argentinian but try telling that to a semi literate nutter who took a premise and invented a story to smear Celtic yet Keevins didn’t feel the need to talk about legalities with him) but they could only give it to Desmond White in cash. He brought it into Scotland in a suitcase and no UK bank would change it so it went to New York (at a cost to Celtic of 3 grand in interest) to be changed but the article doesn’t say what exactly happened to the money other than Celtic got their cheque from it which surely they were entitled to as it was gate money for the match.

It was allegedly illegal to bring South American money into the UK at that time (unsure this is even true) but if that was the case how could they get it back to NYC? No bank in Scotland or in England would change it but they must have got it to the States somehow. If they were guilty of anything it was being a chancer by bringing it in and had it been discovered it might have got them in hot water but you canny evade tax with this money if it was essentially worthless as no bank would touch it.

Now obviously Celtic were entitled to that gate Money and the article on Celtic Wiki doesn’t state anything untoward went on with that money. Presumably when Celtic got the cheque the money went into the club and was in the accounts as money from the play off. The Uruguayans had tried to give Celtic the money in Pounds but couldn’t due to inflation – hence a suitcase full of money was brought into Britain – as no bank could or would do anything with it it can hardly be tax evasion as this fool claimed.

Any older posters with a take on all this or any kind of confirmation of the validity in the story?

I’d love to know but it shows the lengths these Peepel will go to to smear us. They have genuine tax issues so they need to invent something or spin something bad about Celtic. They cannot help themselves.

I think the Board have already made their feelings known to Uefa/Fifa about where we are.

Celtic would enhance Every League in the World.

The total implosion of the SFA/Rangers would not be a disaster in the slightest, if they try to take us down, I will welcome it, because it escalates our escape from this perverse country, football wise.

Rest assured m8, we are engineering things exactly like we should be, IMO.

I came on this site praising those who kept no debt/low debt and even I got jumpy far too early. The proPAGANda media kept Rangers lies running and they managed to get the Celtic support divided, and kept them divided.

  13. If the administrators are able to answer a few questions to enable the MPs to respond to constituents’ queries, I don’t see the problem.

So what if the MPs are Rangers fans? So what if they want Rangers saved? All Rangers fans want Rangers saved, except maybe one. The administrators know that. It’s knowing what they can do about it that is the problem.

Right, I’m signing off soon and, while I’m not giving up CQN for Lent this year (that was so Lent 2009), I’m giving up saying or writing negative things about Rangers for the duration. Mrs First says I’ll just say neutral or positive things about them in a sarcastic way, but I’m going to try not to.

That’s a very important point actually. People need to remember that it’s not just Scottish teams that have been cheated by the financial doping. They also cheated other European clubs out of competing and/ or competing fairly. If Westminster steps in to protect that kind of behaviour the fall-out may could be huge.
