What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

I think it was against Barca at the Nou Camp. Whenever a ball went out for a Celtic goal kick, Big Fraser hardly got a chance to retrieve the ball before a replacement appeared, in an attempt to put the Big Man under pressure. Never really worked but it does beg the question, does Swansea FC own only one ball?

Tbb interjected into a discussion about Dolorus Prices’ funeral with a remark regarding the McConville children,

His remark was totally out of context with the subject matter and designed to cause an argument

His reference to hollywood and oscars is contemptable,

If he wants the truth he just has to ask the good guys

Did they ever get that apology demanded from Celtic? Can’t recall seeing it.

All so very real, and so utterly tragic.

You’ll excuse me I’m sure for refusing to acknowledge the retrospective superimposition of inherent courage and values in abduction, torture and murder, let alone of women.

“What did Juve learn from celtic on Tuesday?” Well in my opinion they learned that celtic are the type of club who, if ever have an accidental gem of a player, you can come in and buy him for peanuts, give them a slap and leave. They also learned that in 2001 you couldn’t get a seat for love nor money whereas today you can get a full section to yourself (at least from where I sit)

Indeed. I really meant tightening and policing of procedures.

In the interests of brevity this fell on the cutting room floor when the draft resolution on TSFM was drafted (something I just realised).

    4. A tightening of and an annual and independent audit of the process for granting UEFA Club (FFP) and National Club licensing reporting to the representative supporter liaison group as well as other SFA members to ensure all clubs are living within their means.

They can whistle for their apology.

I congratulate anyone who publicly condemns them. No-one should be forced into an apology for that.

  21. From Rangers Official site-

PETERHEAD boss Jim McInally has officially apologised to Rangers for inappropriate comments involving one of his players on social media.

One of the Peterhead players – Steven Noble – was involved in a Twitter conversation in the aftermath of Sunday’s match at Balmoor which Rangers won 1-0 thanks to a Fran Sandaza goal.

Noble had been involved in an incident during the match where his left boot caught Sandaza on the cheek which was badly injured against Motherwell last September.

Another Twitter user said: “Not often a Celt gets to kick a Ger in the face and not get lifted”. And the full back responded: “Ha ha. You got it in one that’s the only part of the game I’ve watched back”.

Former Dundee United star McInally contacted Rangers today to officially apologise for the actions of his player.

He said: “On behalf of the club I want to apologise for the comments made by Steven Noble on Twitter.

“I cannot understand any footballer or manager at any level wanting to use these accounts when they are in the public eye.”

The Peterhead boss was also disappointed by an article in a local paper which portrayed him as being critical of Rangers.
