What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

    What a great photie.

    What a magnificent team.

    HH!

  2. Jim McInally said after the game he had asked his players to be physical and leave a boot in, well I’m sorry Jim but that’s exactly what’s wrong with Scottish football and these kind of comments are questionable to say the least. In fact I think he should be asked to explain them to the SFA. Yes we all know lower league teams are going to try and use aggression as a leveler but there’s a difference between that and “leaving a boot in”. Personally I thought Peterhead were a disgrace yesterday and the referee who was incredibly lenient/weak throughout has to shoulder much of the blame for allowing it to continue for 90mins.

Did Jim apologise to Celtic? people in the public eye…………………………………………….

‘The Peterhead boss was also disappointed by an article in a local paper which portrayed him as being critical of Rangers.’

    Aye right enough.

    He meant to say Sevco.

No one is trying to suppress free speech.

In fact debate is welcome.New ideas are welcome.

However think debate with you would be a waste of time and effort,

because your idea of debate is to spew vitriol and lies.

And how can you debate with a liar.

    A LIAR you say

    Well try this

During WWII in the Balkans there occurred one of the worst atrocities of modern Europe.

More than 3/4 of a million people were slaughtered.

60,000 were Jewish, 20,000 were Gypsies and the rest, the vast majority were

Orthodox Serbians (more than 700,000 in fact)

This was not done by the Nazis.Apparently they were even disgusted by the scale

    of it (go figure)

Now TSD you even told us all this.

You then went on to tell us that this act of barbarity was committed by Bosnian Muslims.

I think it is quite safe to assume that by regaling us with this little snippet that you were

forwarding the argument that Muslims were not to be trusted because of the evidence of their past actions.

Its a fine argument let down by a couple of teeny weeny points

You got the nationality wrong . You got the religion wrong.

the barbarians were in fact Croatian Catholics.

Members of an independent Croatian state.

This is a very well documented portion of history. It is very difficult to get something of this magnitude wrong by accident.Do you really have to distort history to bolster your own racist attitudes.

Holocaust Denial is a crime in various countries.

Knowingly attributing Genocide to the wrong perpetrators is every bit as evil.

Maybe you want to be careful how you answer this, knowing the make up of the blog.

Given that you used the Serbian genocide to attack Muslims

might we now expect an anti Catholic backlash from you

You will recognise the strategy. The subsequent responses from the SFA are interesting in that

    a) it got one via Alex Thomson

    http://blogs.channel4.com/alex-thomsons-view/fan-power-fore-scottish-football/3896

    b) the SFA seem to be saying the SPl/SFL are outside their jurisdiction in how they run their competitions

    c) The SFA Mission Statement document highlights the gap between what the SFa clain to be and how they are perceived.

Your views would be welcome if you have the time, particularly on their jurisdiction which I think might explain everything i.e despite their being the appearance of governance the instruments for carrying it out may be missing.

    Underhand, deceitful cheat.

    ——————————————————————-

Does the same go for Demba “paid a fortune” Ba who tried to con the referee into giving a penalty early in the first half and his team mate Ramires who was successful in conning the referee into giving a penalty a few days earlier?

These guys are paid more in a week than most people could earn in several years, and they still find it necessary to cheat and win at “all costs”. Even if it means putting the boot into someone. We are talking about an immature 17 year old vs a 22 year old professional footballer who is purported to be on a contract worth £8.84 million. I know who my sympathies lie with and who IS the fud.

  19. I see I’ve been called a hun.About time too.I do have Rangers friends, but in Scotland, where I make no bones about being a Republican. It’s easy to talk the talk–much harder to do the walk. For information,we now have what Arthur Griffith wanted–dual nationality, although he said we could acknowledge the crown as well as a republic. It is common knowledge also that Michael Collins refused to let control of the IRB go, a bete noir of Charles Burke, or Cathal Brugha as we know him.He didn’t trust Dev, and with good reason..I have been in Long Kesh,Armagh Jail, the Crum as well at one time or another. What for is my business.I also ran a cross community football team even before the ceasefire in 94.I still do quite a lot of community work—unpaid. So if I call the North N.I. I do so in the knowledge of that is what it is—6 counties. I don’t see a Brit withdrawal at any time soon, and I also don’t see the need for a Border Poll. A waste of money.and I’m like Peter Lawell in that respect–I hate wasting money.I don’t tell lies, and I post here because it’s simply the best Celtic site around.I count Marion Price as a friend, yet I don’t agree with her politics.I hold my Protestant friends dear, and they know what I am–a Republican to the hilt.

  20. Rangers could be set to demand a

ban on all goal celebrations ,

tangerine and the BBC’ s Jim Spence

at the powder keg Scottish Cup clash

    with Dundee United .

    Tensions have been raised between

the two clubs ever since ‘Gers

    supporters announced a boycott of

    the fixture .

Despite Charles Green ‘s plea to stay

away, 200 away fans have snapped

up tickets , leading to the Ibrox club

making a list of demands to avoid

    trouble .

Ahead of the explosive fixture ,

    Rangers have already slammed the

    “provocative ” wearing of Craig

Whyte masks by home fans, fearing

    it will spark war.

The Away End understands the club

are set to go further than that , with

a list of diva like demands which will

    ban goal celebrations and the

    wearing of Dundee United ‘s

    traditional home shirt.

Earlier this week John McMillian of

    the Rangers Supporters Assembly

    reacted furiously to news that

United fans were planning to don

Craig Whyte masks to taunt their

    rivals with .

Dundee United fans plan to taunt

their rivals with Craig Whyte masks

He said: “I was anticipating the

    United supporters doing something

but I didn ’ t think they would stoop

    to this .

“ It’ s out of order and Dundee

United as a club should do all they

can to prevent their fans from

    carrying this threat through.

“ The majority of Rangers fans will

not be at the game and observe the

    boycott but unfortunately I ’ m

certain some of them will go to

Tannadice so this is a recipe for

    trouble .

“ It’ s inflammatory to wear these

masks and it ’ s disgraceful to even be

    thinking about it .

“ This game is already raised tensions

and I fear any move to mock our

    support could have serious

    consequences. ”

On the back of United ‘s threat to

don the scary masks , Rangers will

hand their counterparts a list of new

    rules for the cup tie.

A source said: “We feel with

    tensions already heightened for this

    fixture, that it would be

    inflammatory to our support for

    United to wear Tangerine.

“We will therefore provide strips for

them to wear on the day.

“We also feel with tensions already

heightened for this fixture , it would

be dangerous for the home fans to

    taunt our supporters by celebrating

    any goals.

“We call on Dundee United as a club

to ensure this does not happen in

the interests of safety and sporting

    integrity.

“Further to this, in order to avoid

    confrontation between fans, we will

also discuss with the police the

    possibility of the home support

being seated in a boy -girl -boy -girl

    arrangement to ensure a calming

    atmosphere.

“We have also written to the club

and demanded that the BBC’ s Jim

Spence be kept away from the

game. We feel with tensions already

heightened for this fixture that his

    dangerous and provocative

    Dundonian ways will only unsettle

the away fans who have chosen to

    travel .”
