What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

Aye after years of defensive calamity Im glad we are Steua Bucharesting Europe, I can understand those tacics and I love them but we are playing the same fearful tactics in the SPL. Two defensive central midfeilders and nowt ahead of them creating.

The manager is over cautious, WGS teams were probably more entertaining in a more difficult league, circumstances, crowd and other things dictate the entertainment factor but…

Since I could see your persistence in having the details of TSD’s offending post, I tried to find it for you .

It would appear to have been DELETED.

You might manage to get our proudly fascist contributor to give you a rough idea of what he describes as ‘Black Humour’.

His cyber revenge fantasies do not sound grounded in reality to me.

The inadequate often fantasise about revenge but, in this country, they rarely have the means to enact that revenge.

Mind you, he could easily bore you to death.

I’m not sure on their motivation and in my uncertainty I tend to go with it all being more a systemic matter rather than personal as judgement tends to get a defensive rather than receptive response

.I think that approach helped tease the SFA out and that has revealed that how the SFA see themselves and how they are perceived by supporters is miles apart.

What was pleasing to read was that a mission statement had in fact emerged from the McLeish report but when it was drawn up in early 2011 the matter of maintaining sporting integrity and restoring trust in the SFA had not become the issue it now is.

For that reason I think their mission statement which in consultant speak is supposed to be a living document has in fact become shelfware as far as trust and integriy are concerned.

The reasons why – jurisdiction – seem to have emerged but that leads to more questions that if addressed as systemic issues rather than personal or darkside ones might in fact enable a satisfactory resolution in the production of a revised mission statement AND powers to carry it ou that enables a proper system of governance with checks and balances between the SFA and the leagues.

I remain as ever optimisticly hopeful.

Your post about that poor victim of the IRA was the most appropriate of the day given what other contributors have written. CQN continues to be frequented by people who are happy to be wading in the blood of others. A football site is used as a place for homages to murderers…

The UEFA guidelines are very clear on what licensors have to do. The SFA must know. They have failed. If they say it’s because things are unclear it’s a cop-out. They know and now the bampots know too.

What I think is good is that they haven’t just ignored your points, the way they usually do.

Someone needs to grill Ogilvie on Regan on why they have failed to act in keeping with UEFA’s requirements for licensors and on what reaction they have had from Nyon. I would love to read that story.

I would also like to know if Fraser Wishart is still appearing as a guest on any of the phone-ins. If anyone hears of a pending appearance, please tell me. Or does Fraser answer emails?

No, they admitted guilt on about 40% (I think)

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

My post starts here (since I’ve quote about a millionty people)

My understanding, which may well be wrong, of it was that only %age were appealed and of those that were appealed, the tribunal reject the appeal for 5 cases, meaning that there are an undetermined number that never went to appeal.

So I’m left wondering that whilst Rangers may well have won the so called Big Tax Case, there was maybe unchallenged guilt regarding a number of players.

    Auldheid,

I’ve been discussing the hierarchy of the footballing authorities on scotslawthoughts, form my understanding of the articles, all associations must comply with the articles to become members of associated football in Scotland.

Member associations can and do increase the compliance burden of teams to become members of their own associations however the minimum requirements must conform to the SFA articles.

So from that I take it, a member association cannot overrule the SFA if a member of their association ignores the fundamental articles of association, in fact the SFA must take action against any association who does not comply.

Reading through the Articles it is very clear who must comply to retain Association membership and member associations are clearly identified.
