What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

  1. I have to admit that i am not familiar with the writings of The Singing Defective as i tend to scroll by,

    it seems from what some CQN’rs have been saying that he may be something of a part time fascist???

    In this respect i can sympathise with his views as i,..at one time,was a follower of Sir Roderick Spode and his London group,The Black Shorts.

    I have wonderful memories of some of his dramatic speeches and his political platform was indeed inspiring.Some of his ideas are as follows,

    Giving each citizen at birth a British–made bicycle and umbrella,

    Dedicating Wales entirely to the production of turnips;

    A ban on the import of foreign root vegetables;

    The mandatory eating of asparagus;

    Widening the rails of the entire British railway network, so sheep may stand sideways on trains

    The scientific measurement of all British male knees…..

    On this topic he cried…. “Not for the true-born Englishman the bony angular knee of the so-called intellectual, not for him the puffy knee of the criminal classes. The British knee is firm, the British knee is muscular, the British knee is on the march!”

    He was indeed a Big chap with a small moustache and the sort of eye that could open an oyster at sixty paces?

    That would be terrific. I will be in Russia soon. My email is with Paul. I enjoyed the article you mentioned. Only once have I seen a Celtic top in Petersburg. Still, that is one more than most other clubs from over here!

    jc2 – Understand – not exact science, as Paul was pointing out to me – apparently he is in England! – but it is a bit of fun and quite interesting. I thought for instance it says something about the work needing to be done to promote Celtic in Asia.

    John O Neil – will see what I can do and come back to you.

  6. so bang bang goes away for another season, dont think we’ll see him again.

    I think Getafe might not want Miku back, all depends on the arrangement, they were desperate to get him off the wage bill, so if he goes back, we will prob still have to pay for the whole season.

    A wee suggestion, iPads are treated as mobile devices, could there be an option to switch to desktop, giving full features, on WiFi it used to work.

    And you only ever come on greeting about people no talking about what you want to talk about.

    There are a load of clowns like you who come on and complain about the subject matter being discussed, who don’t seem to have the intelligence to start a discussion about what they want to talk about.

    No one is stopping you or anyone else from raising any subject you want, it appears you don’t want to raise any discussion, just harp on about your narrow minded demand to limit subject matter.

    If you read back you’ll find I was not involved in any IRA discussion, you know why ?

    Because unlike you I’m bright enough to discuss subjects I want to discuss, neither you or anyone else bubblin will stop me.

    Based on previous match fixing fines for turkish and Italian clubs over one season. We are looking at 700 games. Extrapolate dividie by two reduce figure based on ten year inflation knock a zero of and then you arrive at 4 million

  20. Paddy, I am a life long Irish Republican and very proud of it. I am also a supporter of the Peace Process and am glad the war is over and that conditions now exist that gives people an opportunity of advancing their political aspirations in a peaceful and democratic manner. I am glad that you never had to fight for this basic human right. Whilst I am glad that the war is over I will never turn my back on people, who suffered so much to achieve what has been achieved, even if it fell short of the ultimate goal. Accordingly I mourn the death of Dolours Price, if you find that nauseating so be it.
