What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

TET, naw. Wear the auld wans / wan, gie’s a chance………………………….please:-)

  2. Petec,

I did not realise that Mr. Doig ( John ?) had gone on for so long.

He was there in my time in the early 50s.

I used to have to hide from him & his wee pal Twomey O’Donnell when I was illicitly visiting Clydebank dog track.

    Miki 67,

We are all in your corner .

Thoughts are with you as you fight your illness.

I know you were expecting better Responses than this, but that was a cracking post. And not the first by any means from your good self.

I would firstly state that do not judge a man by the wealth he has. Economists may seem to be clever, but where they excel in one thing they will surely be deficient elsewhere. (except for our gracious host, of course..) Compassion and empathy for those less fortunate than themselves is a common theme.

Anyway, if I may be so bold as to refer you to a piece from Robert Newman,

Also, there are many videos on the control of the world economy by the powerful Rothchilds who have featured throughout every major economic collapse, and every war stretching back decades.

Ill leave it at that for now…

Can’t believe your banning the hounds, golf courses are perfect for a bit of coarsing.

I spent 12 years working lurchers and always thought golf courses were wasted on golfers :o)

How you doing sir…not had the chance yet Im afraid. I’ve had a fair few homers lately as well as other stuff so not had much time on my hands.

Got my date for my Trade Test eventually which is good…so hopefully be a fully fledged sparky in the next couple of weeks. I’m desperate to get on this Southern General job but seems like every spark in Scotland wants in. Still have hope for that. Seems to be picking up again so the hope is coming back. (or mebbees the Seasonal Affective Disorder is wearing off! ) ha

Hope you’re in fine settle my good man.

Choking to speak to Ped but I know he’s a busy man and don’t want to waste his time. I will pop my head in soon tho just to introduce myself. As I said before, he’s a gentleman.

Mr Doig had a very difficult class that had a youngish Maths teacher have a nervous breakdown in that year, my class. 84-88.

I shudder to think what was coming up the pipe regarding future generations.

Mr Doig, for me, was A Brilliant Lecturer, I just wish I’d have the opportunity to listen to him now and to ask questions in a pub. I was too infatuated with Football back then. ;)

Thanks for the info on Coia’s. The memsahib and myself wandered along on Sunday for an early lunch or a late fry up. All academic anyway because the joint was jumping and it would have been easier to get a ticket for the Juve game than a table there. However bought some Italian sausages, went home, cooked them, opened a bottle of wine and scoffed the buggers. Breakfast/lunch fit for a king. A fat king.

    Good call.

Thanks for that, I will certainly have a look

Oooft, just spent 27 minutes watching your link, it now appears there are 2 economies! The ‘real’ economy and another? As far as I could make out the other is a fictitious one especially created by bankers for bankers to make sure we all get turned off, because even they don’t know how it pans out. Am I close?

    Izzy,

Steer well clear of the southern general, mercury are the biggest shysters in the country.

They work a price system that leaves sparks busting a gut for buttons.

I know this from different sources.

Mercury have stopped employing direct, all agency being treated like shite.

Docwhatfor, I did advise the booking of a table and all and all….

It’s a fine estabishment and they sell some of the most amazing (but a bit pricey wines). Next time you want to go there, book a table and sit in the booths under the Juve champagne cabinet. Alfredo had them in there when we played them last time at CP (he’s going to the Juve game but not spilling the beans on his alegiance for that one night).

Tell them PC67 sent you and you’ll get that table, ma name’s mudd in there:-)

Glad you enjoyed it bud, cos I love the place.

Seems to be the way of the world these days. In my little experience of agencies, they all the same. Not many folks taking you on ‘books in’ now.

The games a bogey with the Building trade these days. Have had guys, 30 40 year in the game, saying its Never been this bad.

Priority just now is to get my ticket and take it from there.

If I need to travel then so be it. Would rather not though.

You’re a wise man. It is Indeed. From what ive garnered through research the 1920s depression was all engineered by the bankers in order to bring about the Federal Reserve. Is that right? Feck knows.

    Petec,

It’s worse than that, they are trying to take us deeper into it, they have 80 years of social conscience to wipe out, all socially responsible countries need to be destroyed.

The lovely capitalist are systematically engineering third world climates in developed countries.

Ever been to India, it’s obscene, worse is their real plan, Middle East conditions and a return to slavery.

And they will tell us all its gods will.

I’LL BUILD A BIGGER IBROX by Ronnie MacKay

Charles Green has revealed his dream to turn Ibrox into Scotland’s biggest stadium.

The Rangers chief claims he’ll fill in the corners of the ground and add another deck to the Govan Stand if the Third Division side fight their way through the leagues and go on to secure regular Champions League action.

He said: “We wouldn’t be frightened of doing it once we know we have the demand — and the top league in Europe would deliver that.”

Green has spoken with boss Ally McCoist about the possibility of increasing the 51,000 capacity. The proposals would be likely to give Ibrox more than Celtic’s 60,000 seats.

Green said: “I had this discussion with Ally, who knows this club significantly better than I do. He said if I could deliver consistently being in the Champions League and get into the last 16, then this stadium would not be big enough.

“If and when we get to that position, and I am confident we will, these are discussions the board will happily have.

“With the way the ground is configured, there is great opportunity to fill in the two corners and put another deck above the Argyle, which would substantially increase capacity.” Green, who admitted Gers are trading at a loss, also revealed he has still to make a decision on renaming the stadium.

He said: “It is not inevitable Ibrox will be renamed. Charles Green will fight for the Ibrox name to be in that new title.

“I’m sure people who have been associated with the club longer than I have will refer to its historical name.

“However, it is that history which attracts a sponsor and that is why people are prepared to buy naming rights for some stadiums rather than others.

“It is an emotive subject at every club and, with Rangers being one of the biggest, it is going to be a big subject.”

Green was impressed by the way Newcastle renamed their stadium The Sports Direct Arena and brought in cash to buy Demba Ba for £2.7million before selling him to Chelsea for £7m.

He said: “The cash they used for the naming rights of St James’ Park was used to acquire Demba Ba.

“That is an illustration that, if you can use the money well, it will bring further money in.”
