What did Juve learn from Celtic on Tuesday?

1080

On watching Celtic on Tuesday I wondered, ‘What will Juventus learn from this performance?’  Their scout will have left with a few notes.

Celtic can break quickly and effectively.  Both Hooper goals came as a result of moving the ball the length of the field, mostly on the deck, at pace.

Their threat from corner kicks was re-emphasised.  Charlie Mulgrew delivers the ball with sufficient pace to benefit from unpredictable movement, beyond the anticipated swerve.  This will be difficult for defenders, keeper and attackers to meet, but Celtic players clearly put a lot of work into practicing getting onto the end of these crosses.

Hopefully the scout will have learned nothing about how we will defend against Juventus as we were somewhat erratic early on against United and were not pressed thereafter.

Juventus are rightly favourites but this this is a thankless tie for them, especially when the first message delivered is ‘Don’t concede corners or free kicks in wide positions’.

They will also be alert to the dangers of being caught forward when Celtic can break effectively.  Celtic conceded through this mistake against Spartak last month but I wouldn’t expect us to leave as much empty space in defence at any point against Juventus.

My main worry about Celtic is over how much practice they are putting into penalty kicks….

With all these requests to identify sunscribing CQNers by location can only lead to a detailed map showing posters location down to street level.

Like most things there will be pros and cons once we have access to the distribution map.

Posters can meet up at a local convenient bar to contribute input to the quiz night.

They can sing and dance to the music night with YouTube requests posted by Paul.

They can more easily identify posters in their home town, street or prison cell.

Some of the cons could result in perhaps some legal action against the blogmeister, as republican factions, unionists, Catholics and atheists all get together for a we confrontation before a game. Accountants, lawyers and school teachers have deeply intellectual fisticuffs discussing the merits of Catholic schools. Or would that be the Catholics and atheists?

The Australian Open is quickly approaching its end. On the men’s side, only the top three seeds remain. Out of all three seeds, Andy Murray has had the least trouble getting to the semifinals. Now this is partly due to the fact that Murray has had the easiest draw out of the three players, but also because Murray hasn’t given his opponents a chance.

When Murray senses that he is the one controlling the tempo of the match, he simply does not take his foot off the gas pedal. On that note, Roger Federer is in for quite a battle in his upcoming match with Andy Murray.

Federer struggled against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the quarterfinals and nearly lost a hold of that match until finally finishing in the fifth set. Murray has set up opportunities for himself and given them away in the past, but after the US Open that’s all a thing of the past. Murray finally has the killer instinct inside of him; he has the ability to sense when he has to go for the win.

At this stage in the game, it’s more about mentality and tenacity rather than actual shot-making. And watching Murray play, his style can only be described as explosive. His movement, groundstrokes, and serves have all been explosive without any significant fluctuations. Murray has that aggression and commitment that’s required to beat the Federers and Djokovics of the game.

Look for Murray to utilize his return and go for a break early in each set to turn the tide quickly. Murray’s game is heavily dependent on momentum and if he can grab an early break it’ll be hard to stop him.

If Murray does in fact get past Federer, the ultimate test awaits.

    Novak Djokovic.

Djokovic, after a five-set thriller against Wawrinka, has dominated his next two matches en route to his third consecutive final down under. In the most tense and crucial of situations, Djokovic has consistently produced shots that others may deem fearless to say the least. However, Djokovic’s biggest problem is that he goes into mental lapses and sets himself up for those pressure situations.

Against Murray he’s not going to be able to dig himself out anymore. Like we saw at the US Open, Murray can sense mental lapses through body language and play style. If Djokovic plays too passively and begins to display negative body language Murray is going to be way too ready for that.

The sheer hunger is enough for Murray to be destined to win his second major. With the recent dominance of Djokovic, Murray is just itching to get his turn at the top of the podium. But instead of waiting for his turn like previous years Murray’s going to go get it, regardless of anybody else’s plans.

To an extent, I understand the feeling of those who don’t want to come to a prominent Celtic site to discuss the ever in the Reddy Deady Berrs, but unfortunately if we hadn’t have brought light to the issue we would have the tribute act in SPL.

The orc, by all rights, should be without any semblance of their vehicle of hate. Unfortunately in Sconey Botland, where the Political powers deem statistics and clear evidence of anti Catholic crime not fit for public consumption, the downtrodden need to fight to highlight blatant corruption.

Sadly there are not many places where a disenfranchised catholic Celtic supporter can air his views.

If some people can’t understand that then Feck em.

Aye lets not discuss them, because that just helps them.

Naw, sorry, but every sneaky manoeuvre these wretches take should be put in the spotlight. Thank God we have the Internet to expose these white collar crims.

Also, as someone pointed out, this blog space is about way more than football. Celtic is what binds us, but The Celtic Community is massive and diverse.

It’s also one of the most effective fundraising sites I’ve ever seen, and the work done here for Oscar Knox has been outstanding, transcending Celtic and including those who would traditionally be described as the enemy.

It’s also evolved over the years and for some, change is never welcome.

  11. Way off track here….

    Anyone watching Question time?

This is doing my nut in…..the ‘E’ word….the economy!

I could never profess to having a great understanding of the economy. My wee heid is not up to that complicated stuff. It is a total turn off, but I had to do a bit of research on it and now my heid is burst. So I would be greatly appreciative if some of the more enlightened people on here could explain to me how the economy is going to get us out of the mess the world seems to be in. As far as I can make out, and as I say I am no expert, the economy is purely a monetary system based on the supply of goods and services.

For it to be successful it needs to grow (Thats what I keep hearing?) it surely follows that the goods and services are taken into account. Goods-this implies that we manufacture things for sale and profit. So resources are an integral part of the economy. Add services and we know that it is aimed at the public, or society. Ok, so the economy relies on having consumers spending to generate profit and the planet supplies the raw materials. Am I getting it? The economy is not based on peoples’ needs, it is based on generating peoples wants. The more you want, the more you spend. The more you spend, the better the economy. This makes the economy grow and that is what we are trying to ‘kick start’ apparently – a growth economy.

Well here is what I don’t get about the economy….

As soon as you have people wanting more than they need or worse, can’t afford, you create division and resentment. Look at the London riots, people just looted, taking what they wanted but couldn’t afford (or needed in most cases) But they were conditioned into wanting all the goods to feel happy, so they took anyway, causing fear and alarm along the way. Look at the Arab Spring, people are angered by living in poverty while the elite rulers and dictators live lavish lifestyles funded by the west (who he?) buying up all the oil. So after many years of civil unrest eventually revolutions erupted. (That’s death and misery on an accelerated scale when all is said and done)The economy is not good for everyone, only the rich, hence social unrest and decline everywhere. That is problem number one.

Problem number two……if the economy is based on ‘want’ which it clearly is. Last years mobile phone is out of date and you need to have a tablet now, not a desk top or lap top. In fact you really want all of the above, but do you need them? It doesn’t matter, society dictates that you are only really happy if you have the most up to date and it is for the good of the economy. Not having what you want makes us envious and unfulfilled. Who wants a car that is just functional but dated, what you really want is a newer car filled with the latest technology, right? And if you can afford it, you’re actually boosting the economy. So already there is a flaw, the economy is selectively beneficial.

So what about resources! Wait a wee minute! Is there not a big thing about ‘sustainability’? We are kinda short on resources, the obvious ones are coal and oil. How short are we on this stuff? Rain forests, there is loads left so lets just ignore that. Oil? Well if we are now ‘mining’ oil from the tar sands of Canada, it must be kinda short because the amount of ‘gas’ you need for the machinery to extract the sticky bitumen from all the clumps of sand and grit, it seems a hell of a lot of effort and energy to go to. Fracking! Ffs! Drilling and exploding rocks deep under ground to try and catch the gas as it escapes up through the cracks. (Seriously!) That means we might be kinda struggling a tad for gas, No? Anyway, back to the economy. The entire economy is utterly reliant on Oil for absolutely every single thing – transport, production, manufacture, plastics, packaging, heat, light and of course research! Cos we all know we need to research to discover alternatives, cos we all accept the cast iron fact that fossil fuels are running out……don’t we? The last big discovery of ‘New’ oil fields was in the 70’s! All we are collecting from the ground we already know about, and used up half! The economy is only good if it grows, to grow it, we need to be supplying goods for profit that people want but don’t actually need. To do this we must make goods that quickly become obsolete so that we produce more replacement goods to ensure the continued healthy economy. Forgetting all about the waste here, (although all technology includes precious metals, the word ‘precious’ must surely be over-rated, given that all technology becomes obsolete in 12 months, but don’t get side tracked) the trick with the economy seems to be based on using rapidly disappearing finite resources as fast as humanely possible, (even if they run out) making things we don’t actually need. So as oil becomes less it becomes more expensive (its an economics thing!) Meanwhile absolutely everyone ‘wants’ what they don’t need even if it means we run out of the resources at an even faster rate than we need, which makes the majority of the population miserable because most can’t afford it! This is leading to social unrest and war, all in the interests of the economy!

As I say, am no the brightest and just know I must be missing something here. So my question to the cleverer than me economists on here is this………Why are we hell bent on saving the Economy? Should we not be trying to save society and resources by stopping the economy growing ?

See while I’m on rant mode…..heres another thing ….Is the mighty Allah the daftest deity there is? Or is he a closet Westerner (Whoever they are!) Cos it seems to me the silly sod keeps sending his fundamentalist Muslim terrorists straight to points on the planet where all the known substantial oil reserves are! Luckily we, the enlightened ones are ready to send in whatever it takes to protect the good people of that area. Allowing them to continue servicing the economy by supplying the west (whatever…..) with the much needed but fast depleting oil needed to keep the glorious economy on track!
