What price Dundee game in US?

459

What price an SPFL game against Celtic in America? £2m? More? You can’t blame Dundee for being enterprising but I can’t see this initiative happening.

Celtic are the Great Gravy Train of Scottish football. We defy the status of our league to reach European Nirvana, which enriches us but also pays a healthy dividend to our supportive (cough) domestic competitors. The Caravan of Celtic arrives once or twice a year at each location, bringing paying fans and TV cameras. Therein lies the business model of many Scottish football clubs.

This is fair enough, but there are limits beyond which it’s inappropriate to spread the Gravy.

Don’t think I’m being sentimental here. Dundee can play their home games wherever they like as far as I’m concerned. They can move them to the US, in fact, if they convince the residents of Dingwall to do likewise, I’d have no problem with the ideal. Just so long as it’s consistent with a significant growth strategy for Celtic. The odd £1m here or there isn’t worth it for us otherwise.

  1. There has been a fantastic wee surge of last minute interest today in GOALS FOR SHAY. Maybe everyone was stuck in with the weather? But this means that we have now just sneaked through the 100-entrants barrier. A huge thank you for your interest and support. And of course it’s not too late to join in the fun – drop a ‘let me in’ email to cqnpredictor@gmail.com and we’ll respond within 12 hours with details of how to pay, the rules and this weekend’s fixtures. Keep an eye on your inbox and then get your first selection in before the game kicks off on Saturday.

A GENTLE REMINDER TO THE 45 WHO HAVE JOINED BUT NOT YET SENT IN THEIR FIRST PICK – AS SOON AS POSSIBLE WOULD BE GOOD, BHOYS AND GHIRLS ;-)

Prayers for your wife and you will continue all the best,

My cousins wife had part of her tongue removed with cancer over 15 years ago ,and though she can communicate well with her family she finds talking to strangers difficult, but that was 15 years ago,. technology has moved on so much and she leads a full and active life. Hope this is a little comfort to you both , stay strong and give it your best shot.HH

Proving a causative relationship between blows to the head ( boxing , football ) and Alzheimers is impossible .

Viz. non boxer , non footballer females .

Proving a contributing role may be possible , but extremely difficult.

It’s a tough thing to watch someone go through. As Mackay says, it’s difficult to determine causality and can strike anyone!

JFH, my thoughts and prayers are with your wife , you and your family.

One of my neighbours had cancer in his tongue and following succesful surgery , he is feeling the healthiest he has felt for 40 years.

He has lost 3 and a half stone , in his words a more than welcome weight loss, and is in fine fettle. He too required a trachiotomy. They removed about a third of his tongue and it took him about three months after surgery to regularly eat solids ( he was fed up having soup) .

I hope your wife’s surgery and recuperation are as succesful as my neighbour’s.

Having watched the assaults carried out on Celtic players ( Kayal for one ) which have led to long term injuries at the hands ( or elbows ) of the Mc Cullochs of this world , I think that we may have finally got ourselves an enforcer ( hatchet man in my day ) .

His prime role may be for the domestic scene .

How long till the men in black attempt to nullify his protectionism ?

Brendan , it seems , has been coveting the Celtic job for some time and would be well aware of these issues.

  8. Macjay

On reading your post, the thought occurred to me that maybe we don`t have an enforcer because the treatment he would receive from the referees, and the media in Scotland would mean we played too many games with ten men.

    Goodnight all,

From the video that was posted on here recently (sorry, I cant remember who posted it), I like the looks of young mr. Eboue. He seemed to take up good positions. And when he receved a pass, he controlled it with his first touch, and played some really nice incisive passes first time. If that video is even remotely accurately, then it looks like we have signed a very good young player, and just the sort of midfielder we have been crying out for.

Brendan’s family will have made sure he is under no illusions as to what we are up against in this land. Thankfully he has assembled a team that no amount of MIB cheating will be able to stop.

As for the new bhoy, he has that look of authority about him out on the pitch. Brendan and Kolo will have him playing out of his skin soon enough. High hopes.

Not sure if you are still around mate … but, by coincidence, I saw an article today about the ex-American football player/all star/ baseball player, Bo Jackson …. he says that, had he known then, what he now knows about brain injuries, he would never have played (american) football …. and this from one of the games’ great players. Telling.

I think you are absolutely right.

He gives the impression of having been extremely well informed and prepared well in advance of the press announcement of his accepting his role.

The defeats against Imps and Barca would have shaken off any illusions about the job he faced.

    A blessing , well disguised.

    Macjay1,

Celtic, like all of the top teams have abandoned the old fashioned, getting stuck in tackling.

It is unacceptable in the higher levels of the game.

Instead, interception and quick pressing of the man in possession, is the prime means of regaining the ball.

The actual physical tackle is almost used as a last resort.

Most of our recent free kicks against us have been for opponents falling over when the sense a Celtic players breath on their necks,

Eboue will be well coached in pressing and interception.

Billy Mc.Phail, a hero of the 7-1 game, developed dementia later in his life.

    Agreed.

Nevertheless , I don`t think that message has reached the higher ( lower ? ) echelons of the Scottish game where clugging remains an acceptable approach .

And one often ignored by our lords and masters at Hampden and their acolytes in black. ( Viz. Kiernan ) .

Which is why I mentioned Eboue`s possible role in particular relation to the domestic scene.

Nevertheless , I feel we shall have lots of fun finding out.
