What price Dundee game in US?

459

What price an SPFL game against Celtic in America? £2m? More? You can’t blame Dundee for being enterprising but I can’t see this initiative happening.

Celtic are the Great Gravy Train of Scottish football. We defy the status of our league to reach European Nirvana, which enriches us but also pays a healthy dividend to our supportive (cough) domestic competitors. The Caravan of Celtic arrives once or twice a year at each location, bringing paying fans and TV cameras. Therein lies the business model of many Scottish football clubs.

This is fair enough, but there are limits beyond which it’s inappropriate to spread the Gravy.

Don’t think I’m being sentimental here. Dundee can play their home games wherever they like as far as I’m concerned. They can move them to the US, in fact, if they convince the residents of Dingwall to do likewise, I’d have no problem with the ideal. Just so long as it’s consistent with a significant growth strategy for Celtic. The odd £1m here or there isn’t worth it for us otherwise.

    Not sure about him.

But I think his deputy, Henrik McGrory, definitely is…

    * 1 x burst net, thanks to M Dembele

    * 1 x roof lifted off when S Sinclair scored.

Goodness, hope they don’t need that to get back from Germany…

‘They claimed we damaged ibrox. Celtic gave them until last night to provide evidence. None forthcoming.’

I remember one of our number ( Hamiltontim ? ) advising that early arrivals at Ibrox should take ” before ” shots of the loos.

And follow up shots after our fans had departed.

    Waaaay ahead of the game.

    Love it.

  5. I have a perverse pleasure in the knowledge that they are cheating us. Used to suspect they were at the Buster Keaton, now I know. Makes our dominance overcoming a bent system all the sweeter.

    Macjay1,

I reckon that part of our failure to make much of a mark in Europe in recent years ,was down to having to play two different types of game.

Domestic stuff, blood and snotters, at the weekend.

The more tactical stuff for Europe.

Now, we are adopting a style of play which is effective at home and abroad.

We are not quite there yet, but the signs are there that we are close.

We are showing that we can hold our own in Europe and are too good domestically, therefore we don’t have to be Jeckyll and Hyde FC any more.

A strange thing happened in work today – one of the most hard, streetwise guys in the firm ran to the toilet – one of the moments that as you get older you realise is upsetting news. The sort of moment when half a dozen women flock to support, but blokes look at each other or their shoes. Anyway I went in – he’s a Liverpool FC fan who went to Athens in 2007 (LFC lost the Big Cup final to AC Milan). He said that Graham Taylor had got out of a cab in Athens and was working as a radio co- commentator with Jan Molby. Graham Taylor stood in a bar for an hour talking to a bunch of football-mad scallywag Scousers, and shook all ten of them by the hand before he left.

I never really liked nor disliked Graham Taylor – but my workmate described him as the nicest football person he ever met.

    RIP Graham Taylor.

This is only the beginning before Level 5 and SMSM get going, and it’ll

turn into an ‘old firm’ slanging match about ‘alleged’ damage and one is as bad

as the other yada yada. A Sevco statement is already overdue.

Celtic are partly to blame for allowing Newco into our stadium, ‘you run with the craw you get shot with the craw’ when you chase the Sevco pound.

I would ban them in time for 12/03/17, they’ve only been once and have a 100% record of thuggery.

  12. james mcavoy today – i do like the use of the phrase “tan it” .

whats the origins of that ?

    ———–

Previously, that might have been a whisky night. But, speaking to The Journal magazine for fashion retailer Mr Porter, he said: “Whisky used to be my drink – a peaty Talisker or a Laphroaig. But I can’t drink too much whisky any more.

“More than one or two now and I get a bit leery, a wee bit fighty and a bit chippy, looking for an argument.

“I didn’t like that so I mostly stopped drinking it. My problem is that if I have it in the house, I’ll tan the lot. I’m a consumer. If it’s in front of me, I’ll f***ing do it.

“I still drink, and sometimes have a lot of drink, but I don’t want to have alcohol in the house any more.”

For me , no question about it.

A major handicap for Lenny in particular.

Its just possible that we can drag the Scottish game up to that level . Dragging up rather than dumbing down.

I was just thinking the other day about how effective the inclusion of Broony , Armstrong , the new Forrest Leigh and perhaps Tierney would be in assisting wee Gordon to put together some decent results.

Are we able to ban opposition supporters from our ground ?

    Would that be legal ?

Human rights , discrimination and all that ?

  15. I’ve got big expectations of this lad eboue. If your gonna rock up with that hairdo, looking like a diddy , you need to be shit hot

  16. the scarf tying incident is booked with the insurers.

    dear direct line

, the claim concerns the roof falling doon, cos the tie lines of the top of the goalpost were fixed to the very top of the roof, for safety you understand, and the extra weight bearing loaded by a hooped scarf , with green wool being proved to be 90,000% heavier than good scottish protestant t royal blue wool from good ayrshire grazing sheep.

    anyways , we claim £50,000,000,

please pay directly to our account in south afrika.

Just saw the news that we’d finally signed Jules “Christ” Kouassi Eboue. His name alone will cause many a zombie to froth at the eyes.

Looking forward to see this boy play, seems B.R. likes him a lot.

SFTB, I always assumed zombie rights were just Nazi zombies, I even saw a movie about them. So, no real difference then from the average hun season ticket holder.

  20. Kiernans punch……hopefully the Saints manager will come out and voice his opinion…..if hees a wee bit apprehensive can i suggest a quick call to Craig Levian….. a guy you have to admire who came out and high lighted the cheating when his team were robbed of a victory by that hun mcurry.

Was talking to Jungle Jim today about the difference between the Kiernan punch (I’ve only just seen it for the first time), and the vilification and subsequent punishment of Alexander Tonev “on the balance of probability”.

Its refreshing to see our governing body deal wit these issues in an even handed manner.
