WHATEVER HAPPENED TO…JONJOE KENNY?

NEIL LENNON snapped up Jonjoe Kenny on a short-term loan deal from Everton in late January 2021.

The former England Under-21 international right-back was introduced to the first team immediately and made his debut in a 4-0 win over Kilmarnock at Rugby Park.

Kenny’s appearance in Ayrshire was one of only 14 league appearances for the Hoops before he returned to Goodison in the aftermath of a catastrophic campaign for the champions who saw their nine-year domination of the domestic scene come shuddering to a calamitous halt.

UP IN THE AIR…Jonjoe Kenny goes for a high ball during his short stint at Celtic.

The 26-year-old defender, who kicked off his career at the Merseyside outfit in 2014, failed to show in the games that mattered most and even put through his own goal in a 2-0 loss at Ibrox as a dreadful campaign limped to a conclusion.

He had answered an SOS after Jeremie Frimpong’s big-money move to Bayer Leverkusen and the lack of commitment from Hatem Abd Elhamed who left shortly afterwards for Israeli outfit Hapoel Be’er Sheva.

But Kenny suffered in the general downturn in the Hoops’ fortunes that saw Lennon depart Parkhead in February after an unacceptable 1-0 loss to Ross Couty in Dingwall, the second flop against the Highlanders that term.

The full-back left Everton on a permanent switch when he signed a three-year deal at Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin in 2022.
