WHAT’S THE SCORE, ROCCO?

CELTIC will continue to hold talks with Rocco Vata who is out of contract at the end of the season.

The in-demand 18-year-old winger knocked back a four-year offer from the champions last month, as CQN reported.

Serie A double-act Bologna and Como were tracking the Republic of Ireland Under-21 forward right up to last Thursday’s 11.30pm deadline.

PERFECT POISE…Rocco Vata moves away from Aberdeen skipper Graeme Shinnie in Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Pittodrie.

Vata resisted the lure of a switch to the Italian top-flight to remain in discussions with the Hoops, but the initial terms did not tempt the player, son of former Hoops star Rudi Vata, to pledge his immediate future to the club he joined as an 11-year-old and worked his way up through the ranks.

Brendan Rodgers threw on the exciting prospect for a cameo role in the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Saturday and he will be in the squad for tomorrow’s encounter against Hibs at Easter Road.

Vata claimed his first goal for the Hoops in the 5-0 Scottish Cup win over Buckie Thistle last month.

There will be some tough negotiating between the club and the player and his representatives in the forthcoming months as the clock ticks down on his current contract.
