If you are a Celtic player, what would your overbearing sentiment be today? If it was me, looking at photos of those two white-shirted fitness freaks at the Training Centre today, I’d be tempted to get out for a run, before the real business starts next week.
There are only a few things a manager can do in his first few days in charge of a new squad but setting standards for fitness and training are two clear examples. Monitoring is not just about stepping on the scales anymore, the players will have their body fat, glycogen levels and heart beats documented from when they get back and throughout the season thereafter. Do our kids practice, practice practice…..honing their skills in the hope that they will 1 day become what they dream to be……running around with a ball every minute of the day that they get a chance, or do they do what they have to and then go home to play games online, sit on their butts and eat rubbish……while some of these youngsters from abroad may do well to actually eat anything.
