White shirted fitness freaks arrive at Training Centre

911

Fixtures are out and the management team are in-situ at Bobbylennoxtown; the air of anticipation for a new chapter in a 126-year-old story lies heavy over Celtic supporters.  I wish we were starting tomorrow.

If you are a Celtic player, what would your overbearing sentiment be today?  If it was me, looking at photos of those two white-shirted fitness freaks at the Training Centre today, I’d be tempted to get out for a run, before the real business starts next week.

There are only a few things a manager can do in his first few days in charge of a new squad but setting standards for fitness and training are two clear examples.  Monitoring is not just about stepping on the scales anymore, the players will have their body fat, glycogen levels and heart beats documented from when they get back and throughout the season thereafter.  With benchmarks for all, as well as performances.  I’m feeling tired even thinking about it.

  1. At this moment I find myself sitting in, for me, a strangely different place. I can see numerous stars in the sky, and in the peaceful location of Buffalo University Campus, the antithesis of the ambient light of home, i recognize how valuable a change of location/perspective is…

I am attending a conference of The Creative Problem Solving Institute (CPSI). I have not seen so many stars in the sky for a long time….nor so many interesting people from all over the world…

CPSI is full of people exploring divergent, and convergent thinking….

Five days of thinking the unthinkable… There are certain groups I know would benefit from this approach…

    The FA

    The SFA

    Everyone…

I think Celtic FC ( and I include in that the PLC) have made a shrewd choice in the new management team.

Very interesting times we all live in….

I am off to see Niagra Falls this weekend, and to remember what the philosopher Bruce Lee said…. “Be Like Water”

Scotland, and its sporting institutions need some creative problem solving to overcome the shite certain parties have foisted upon us.

    Like a few years ago….

I have faith in WGS being a guid Captain.

Hope others follow his honest example…

  13. Ronny Deila and John Collins work out Celtic attack plan using salt and pepper pots

    Jun 20, 2014 03:00 By David McCarthy 1 Comments

NEW Celtic No2 says he and Norwegian manager have recipe for club’s success.

JOHN COLLINS insisted free- flowing, attacking football will be on Celtic’s menu this season – after he and Ronny Deila spent two dinners working out their tactics using the cutlery and salt and pepper pots.

The new Celtic No.2 last night laughed as he revealed he and Deila clicked instantly during a couple of meals they had prior to the Norwegian manager deciding Collins would be the ideal man to assist him in Scotland.

Collins said: “We had one dinner in Glasgow and another in Edinburgh.

“When we met it was a case of moving the salt and pepper pots around the table. The forks were involved as well, I think!

“I had a phone call from Peter Lawwell asking if I would be interested in talking to the manager. I said, ‘Of course, I’d be delighted’.

“I met Ronny a few weeks ago and we had a long chat about his football philosophy, his way of doing things, my way of doing things and we discovered we’re very similar indeed.

“We had another long chat together over dinner, talking football and philosophies, how we do things and how we’d like to do things.

“We again got on very well and I was offered the job. Obviously, I am delighted.”

Collins admitted he knew little about Deila before the 38-year-old became a contender for the Celtic job but a scour of the internet soon told him that Lawwell appears to have made an astute choice.

He added: “ I heard the name and then promptly went on the computer and did my research, watched his team playing. I was impressed by what he had achieved at a small club and with a small budget.

Deila and Collins aim to keep up the good work at Celtic

“He’d taken on the big boys and been successful. It’s the hardest thing to do, having a small budget and taking on the big boys.

“To have success, it tells you that you know what you’re doing.

“But that was just with his results and the footage – I was even more impressed when I met him.

“You can tell he’s motivated, he’s hungry and he knows what he’s talking about.”

Collins has returned to a very different Celtic than the one he left in 1996 after six years where only one trophy was lifted.

That Scottish Cup triumph in 1995 was scant reward for his efforts and he is extremely motivated to make sure it’s a different story this time round. He said: “The club has moved on. The stadium, first and foremost, wasn’t complete when I left.

“You’ve now got a five-star stadium and a five-star training complex which wasn’t the case when I left – we were at Barrowfield!

“So it’s moved onwards and upwards – commercially, marketing. I

think everything has moved forward dramatically in the last 20 years.

“When I played here it was hugely frustrating at that time. Rangers were signing players from Premier League clubs and from all over Europe. They were strong and we were always the chasing team.

“In my last campaign, 1995-96, we couldn’t have played any better as a group of players for Celtic that season.

“That was probably our maximum. We were just unfortunate that Rangers were flying high and their goalkeeper was brilliant that season.”

Celtic lost only league game that season with a style of football that won admirers but not the championship.

Collins now wants to have an influence in the club playing well and winning trophies.

He added: “Everyone knows at Celtic that you have to win, that’s what is expected of you. But the target for the manager and myself is, ‘Can we win in style? That’s the Holy Grail, isn’t it?

“You want to win but you want to win in style and entertain. It’s an entertainment business.

“We have a beautiful stadium and you want to fill it, you want the fans to come and see not just winning football, but attacking football with lots of goals.

“The team has had great success in the last few years. There have been some excellent performances. So we have to try and maintain that, try our best to kick on again.

“But let’s not make any mistake, the team have been doing very well under the previous manager and coaching staff. You’ve got to give Neil Lennon and his staff a huge compliment.

“They won leagues and got into the Champions League.

They did a great job and

hopefully Ronny and I can pick up the baton and continue that good work.

“It’s a hard act to follow, of course, but as managers and players the key word when you walk through the door to work every day is ‘improvement’.

“Everyone has to try to improve – me, the manager, the players. That’s got to be the mindset, to

try to get better results and performances. It’s going to be

    very difficult.”

Collins is known as being extremely single-minded but he accepts Deila is the boss while insisting the manager does not want a “yes” man beside him.

He added: “Ronny’s the manager and he’ll pick the team and systems. I’ll assist him but I’ll always give him my opinion when asked and it will be an honest opinion.

“He’ll take everybody’s opinion but a manager ultimately makes the decision. That’s the way it should be. It’s a big job for the manager and he gets the final say. That was part of our discussion. It’s important we have that relationship.

“He’ll ask me questions and he’ll want my response and it might not necessarily be the response he wants to hear.

“But he’ll always get that – an honest opinion on how I see it.

“When he makes the decision I will

be assisting him and supporting that decision 100 per cent.

“Once the decisions are made then we go as a team.”

And they’ll have to hit the ground running with Champions League qualifiers looming in mid-July.

Collins has enjoyed working as a pundit with Sky Sports on

those nights over the last few years but would much rather be on the touchline.

He added: “I am looking forward to that. It will be slightly different.

“I’ve been in a TV studio talking about it so it’s nice to be in the heat of the battle with the adrenalin pumping. It will be special.

  14. Collins helped Scott get Celtic gig

JOHN COLLINS has revealed he urged Gordon Strachan to break the bank to make Scott Brown a Celt.

By: Iain MacfarlanePublished: Fri, June 20, 2014

Celtic assistant manager John Collins told then Bhoys boss Gordon Strachan to sign Scott Brown[GETTY]

Now Collins – paraded as Ronny Deila’s new No.2 at Celtic Park – hopes this tale will “nail” the myth once and for all that he and Brown are enemies.

Collins reckons he can work with Norwegian Deila to bring glory to the Hoops – the sort of success that eluded him as a player at Parkhead between 1990 and 1996 when Rangers were dominant.

More to the point, though, the former Hibs boss, above, reckons he can do so with skipper Brown as the driving force of the team, despite fears a feud from Easter Road in 2007 would sour their relationship.

Seven years ago, a Hibs dressing room including Brown had issues with Collins the boss – but the new Hoops assistant insists talk of warfare is nonsense.

He said: “It’s important we nail that. I never had any problems with Scott when I was Hibs manager.

“On the training pitch, he was brilliant for me. During every match, he was fantastic – and that’s why he got his big move to Celtic.

“I actually played a little part in him coming here as Gordon asked me, ‘What’s the boy Brown like?’

“I gave Gordon a glowing reference and told him to make sure he didn’t miss out on him; to pay what it would take to get him as he was a top player.

“He’s my type of player. He trains properly and has developed into a leader and captain of Celtic.

“His career’s just gone from strength to strength – and he’s a Scotland international also.

Much of BBC Scotland’s output is poor in comparison to the BBC as a whole. It’s amateur and parochial.

And there is a bias in favour of der hun. It’s always been there, part of the culture.

I’m not sure what relevance the Saville revelations have for the BBC, though I’m aware the right wing do try to make that case. The Daily Mail in particular. Saville’s offences raise questions about the role of a number of institutions, The royal family, Thatcher, the Catholic Church, the NHS and the army, in particular the royal marines, all of which provided him with an air of authority and respectability who should have been aware of his propensities, yet it’s only the BBC that comes under fire. I find that telling.

    Good Morning,

    IT’S ALL ABOUT EVIE

Tomorrow night will see me at the Manor Club in Wimbledon with the Wimbledon CSC for a Q&A and nonsense night with big John Hughes, Auldheid and a few other Celtic fans.

Hopefully we will have a few laughs, Yogi will tell a few truths in his own inimitable style and a good night will be had by all.

In the course of the night we might manage some special guests if all goes to plan, and we will raise some money for the Celtic Charity Foundation as a matter of course.

I know that many CQN’ers from down south will be there.

    HOWEVER

The local CSC want to raise money for Evie.

Evie is a wee girl who has had to fight from the very moment she was born, and she and her family need all the help and support they can get.

Evie suffers from a number of ailments which make life for her and her family incredibly difficult and rather than me describe her condition, I prefer to post a link which spells out clearly where she is and why.

Please take 5 minutes to read it and hopefully understand.

    http://www.enablingevie.co.uk/

So Saturday, beyond the football chat and nonsense, is about doing something for Evie and her folks …… and maybe among all the politics, world cup, transfer windows and all that stuff it is about reminding ourselves what we do best…… basically helping some folk who are far less fortunate than us.

If you are thinking of going to the pub tonight, or having a drink in the sunshine this afternoon, or sticking a bet on tonight’s games — why not spend just a wee bit of the money on Evie?

Text “EVLN47 £5” to 70070 to show your support — but please only do so if you can afford to.

Many of us are now at an age when we have kids and many more are becoming grandparents.

Imagine you are in Evie’s parents shoes, facing a desperate uphill fight with emotions and nerves fraught, and at times just praying for ……. something good to happen.

The honest mistake tells me that supporting Evie is something that is very close to the hearts of the members of the Wimbledon Celtic Supporters Club and so I thought I would highlight her story on here,
