Why Hibs are a good bet tomorrow, blaming Ibrox monkeys, not the organ grinder

760

Before you get carried away, let me remind you: Our Premier League record of 25 consecutive wins in season 2003-04 came to an end at home to Motherwell, the game after a memorable European victory over Barcelona. Our 2007 win over European Champions, Milan, was followed by a harrowing game against Gretna at Fir Park, where the soon-to-be-liquidated minnows held the lead until the 87th minute.

The last 10 days have been mentally and physically exhausting for the players: a League Cup quarter-final victory, humbling Newco, then raising the bar further against Anderlecht, all three games away from home. There will be a natural drop-off in endorphins, even the coaches will find it difficult to squeeze determination to climb another summit so soon.

A home game against soft-looking Hibernian is exactly how 57 game unbeaten domestic runs come to an end.

It’s always a bit disconcerting to see the media report a story of discord at Newco, conditioned, as we were, by the blanket of control Sir David Murray shrouded news outlets with while at Oldco. Now news that Brother Pedro has banished Kenny Miller from the Newco first team squad.

Kenny is the innocent party in all of this, apparently. Troubles are the manager’s fault.

Miller, “a guy who lives and breathes Rangers (sic.)”

Miller, “a guy who lives and breathes Rangers (sic.)”

You and I both know that Pedro, Kenny and everyone else at Ibrox are woefully under-resourced to compete at the summit of the Scottish Premiership. That’s the only important part of this story, and the answer doesn’t lie on the pitch or in the dug-out on match days. At best, the person responsible for that is watching games poolside in South Africa.

All that campaigning to unseat the Easdales was for this. It’s a Brexit-style self-delusion, with an inevitable outcome.

Celtic FC Foundation, Great Scottish Run

I can’t tell you him much I appreciate the generous support ahead of the Great Scottish Run this Sunday, for the Celtic FC Foundation.  As I said yesterday, we are not only about winning trophies, and the Champions League, this club is has deep roots in helping our fellow those in need.

I’ve never made porridge in Malawi, or fed the poor in Haiti, not would I know how to engage with Autistic kids, but you and me can do our bit for those who have the responsibility of delivering help where needed.  What I can do is run on Sunday and ask for sponsorship.  If you can help, do so at this MyDonate page.

Thank you.

  1. Kenny Miller reminds me of a dog in a park when he plays.Lots and lots and lots of running about but not up to much with the actual ball. He’s fit, that’s his best quality. If he hadn’t played for past and present Iborcs entities and all the assistance that provided his goalscoring record would be lamentable. He’s a prime example of why Scottish football has been getting nowhere for decades, lauded because he tries hard.Average player at best.

    Genuine football player,Socrates.

You talk one load of turkish delight pal. You been on the sauce since early bells this morning when you started polluting the blog?

Players playing for the national team are playing for the nation, not the SFA…. the clues in the name. I support the national team, not the SFA.

Away and buy a few more litres of cheap cider and geez aw peace

As much as I’d love to discuss Hamilton -1/-2 value bets I think it’s discouraged in the best interests of sensibility.

  4. a bit early for Friday night music session , but ….

saw billy bragg last night … his usual cheeky, irreverent, and brilliant self

and tonight, a house party with The Trashcan Sinatras.. really looking forward to this

and next week, seeing Paul Weller ….

and just got tickets to see Jake Bugg in a few weeks ….

a bloody good stretch for music!

  5. Read somewhere the Sevco manager is on a 90 day notice period if its decided he is to go , so it would not cost over 100k to get shot of him, of course there is the rest of his staff,B. Ferguson and K. Miller are angling for this job with McLeish available to anyone daft enough to pay for his services.

…..I support the club not the holding company.

  8. and, leaving aside the question of whether he is now or ever was good enough, why would we take KM? his wages might just be the one that puts the new company under… it is going to happen sooner rather than later… might as well be KM.

  9. As much as I hope Pedro stays forever, wouldn’t it be a wonderful thing to see some real Rangurz men presiding over this ominishambles / clusterfunk ?

Any combo of Barry / Bomber / KM / Davies would be delicious. But as I say, long live Pedro.

You appoint a manager on those terms and then let him bring in his own players on three year contracts?

  11. Ernie

Doesn’t make sense to me either, hope it’s not true and his contract is watertight, I wonder what has happened to the hat and staff with their claim against Sevco.

  12. ERNIE LYNCH on 29TH SEPTEMBER 2017 3:38 PM

None are on 3 year contacts. Every Sevco Hun is on a 90 day notice period since Mad Cax arrived. Hence all the duds that dont give a hoot even if they did have the ability to do otherwise.

  13. CB pairings – – the best are always better than the individual players involved.

DB and US have some way to go.

However they have come on quite a bit over the past year.

    Consequently more to come.

VVD and JD would be a good counterpoint.

    Need better back up though.

    ES needs to move on.

    KA is still learning.

  14. It must be hard for Leigh and Neal (they have as much as said so) playing against the team’s they have supported all their lives. I think a draw tomorrow would please them . I still think we will take all points.

  15. Alex McLeish…will you come out from under that jobby….you’re making it smell worse…go and hover at the bbc…they’ll give you a job…

  16. Nye Bevans' rebel soldier on

Kenny Miller should have never at any time in the past or the future

been any where near Celtic Park.

I would never tell any one what or who should be the subject of

    discussion on here…….BUT FFS!!!!

We’re already well into planning for Brendan’s phase 2 recruitment.

The good thing is Money Clubs respect his judgement. They wont be put off from making their bids on our phase 1 players when he gives the nod but then and only then.

The only accelerated sell strategy comes into force when a players head is turned despite words of wisdom to the contrary.

That’s okay too. Brendan has a handle on that.

  18. I said at the time that I was amazed we didn’t play a second string team against Dundee. Three games in eight days was too much for Broonie. Am I allowed to criticise our manager (who is fantastic)?

  19. Being privy to such delicate information, due to being in a related business that supports such other “activities”, I can categorically confirm what happens in Vegas does not stay in Vegas….

  20. They’ve had Green and Whyte in the boardroom and when Miller takes over caravan washing out duties for the rest of the season their last two managers will have been wearers of the green and white.

    Have they not suffered enough?

  21. The Hotel Paradiso is destined to be a huge success.

Run a good shuttle from the city center and even the airport for those neutral football aficionados who will want a night’s stay while visiting for a tour or a game.

Just stay away from any name containing the word “lodge”. Just to avoid confusion like.

Just done the Central Station tour with my daughter a couple of weeks ago and big Paul was a mine of information. It was a moving experience and i would highly recommend it to all.

the history is fantastic and it is all brought to life by Paul Lyons an enthusiastic and funny guy.

he has big plans for the future of the tour and will be getting a 1900s steam engine installed in the old disused victorian platforms next year, which will be renovated in period style.

great to see Fergus in Glasgow and looking in good health.

  23. SIONNACH ABU,

You’ve been on all afternoon, yet you still have not answered my simple question.

“Kenny Miller is going to make a brilliant coach”. On what do you base this?

    have a great time

  25. Sin City Bhoy

i have to agree with you 100%

it was one of best things i have done in ages, Paul was great and his knowledge is what makes the tour such a

    funny and sad experience.

the stories of the WW1 dead being dumped in the basement is harrowing but hardly surprising

once off the train they are no longer the responsibility of the army.

the things Paul has planned are really superb and i will be going back around February to see all the changes.

Phase 2 recruitment didn’t go very well so we need to up our game.

Hopefully Phase 2B and 3 will be better and we learn from our mistakes.

Wages will be an issue plus the handling the MD developments will require some level of sophistication and skill.

Hopefully Phase will have a pile of bricks to keep him busy and out of the way.
