Why SFA will reject Rangers appeal

279

The reason a transfer ban was imposed on Rangers is straightforward enough, they bought players and cannot pay for them. Clubs from Vienna to Edinburgh are owed money and have little prospect of being paid ahead of the coming transfer window, a fact which will have an enormous impact on their own competitive challenge next season.

The SFA cannot allow member clubs to continue to splash cash on players while clubs from other associations go without payment. It has a duty to inhibit clubs in violation of the rules from further strengthening while others have been weakened as a consequence.

This notion is tolerated in Scotland (only by those with a vested interest in Rangers flourishing) but is simply untenable. The appeal will be rejected.

It beggars belief that Duff and Phelps complain that Rangers competitive challenge will be inhibited as a result of not being able to sign yet more players, the administrators are the architects of the situation the club finds itself in.

Duff and Phelps devised a plan which would see Rangers retain their squad, or at the very least, be in a position to trade players in the summer. The plan was sold as a great victory, a panacea which would ensure the club would continue to field a competitive team throughout the administration process, something unheard of at other clubs in the same situation.

At significant cost to creditors, they kept players on full pay for several weeks before agreeing to retain the entire squad on reduced salaries. Throughout this period they played teams they owe money to, including Hearts, who they defeated last week while using a player bought from Hearts with an outstanding £800k bill.

For signing players and gaining a competitive advantage, without paying for them, inhibiting competitors’ teambuilding efforts, the only appropriate punishment is a transfer ban.

No disrespect to junior, amateur and lower league teams, but…

One team in Glasgow,
There’s only one team in Glasgow.
One team in Glasgow,
There’s only one team in Glasgow…

    Morning,all.

One reason I think the punishment will stay is that clubs from Europe who are owed money by RFC(FUBAR) may well approach UEFA with regard to suing the SFA for the debt,as they may feel the SFA have not acted with a duty of care towards the wider footballing fraternity.

The assembly point for is the Victoria Road entrance of Queens Park. March off is 1.30pm to Hampden where a short rally will be held.

The march and rally are against the unfair, draconian and unsporting punishments meted out to Rangers FC and it’s fans because of the behaviour of Craig Whyte.

We urge fans of all ages to come along and make this a day of protest for the whole Rangers Family, everyone must rally around at this time of great crisis.

Rangers Fans Unite is an initiative created by fans inspired by the colourful displays of the Union Bears and the Blue Order who have spearheaded the organisation of the march. The march and rally is supported by every fans organisation and website.

CODE OF CONDUCT FOR MARCH AND RALLY.

PLEASE ONLY ATTEND IF YOU ADHERE TO THE CODE OF CONDUCT AND FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS OF STEWARDS AND POLICE AT ALL TIMES.

Rangers Fans Unite – Protest Guidelines

Assembly Point: Queens Park, Glasgow – Victoria Road

    1. Marshals: There will be protest marshals/stewards clearly identified by their high visibility vests. These are fellow fans; please follow their instructions at all times. They are there to help you and ensure our ultimate aim is achieved successfully.

    2. Self Policing: Ensure you uphold the Rangers traditions set by the gallant pioneers, through to Mr. Struth and more recently by our manager Mr. McCoist. Follow any police directions and assist each other to ensure that this is a peaceful protest.

    3. Flags and Banners: If your banner would be deemed welcome inside Ibrox Stadium, then it is welcome at the protest. Hard hitting slogans which get our message across are very welcome. Be mindful that any offensive banners/placards could result in their removal, your arrest and the protest halted.

    4. Songs: Please stick to clean anti-SFA songs and Rangers songs. Again, if the song is welcome at Ibrox then it is welcome on the march. Be mindful that there will be families in attendance, supporting our club; therefore be mindful of the language used.

    5. The March: Please move quickly along the route to our ultimate destination outside the main doors of Hampden. The protest will be dynamic and may obstruct ordinary people going about their normal business – we must do our best not to disrupt them.

    6. Be wary of rival fans, should they be in attendance – do not react to provocation, allow the police to deal with any trouble should it arise. The police presence will be there to ensure that the protest passes off safely and peacefully.

    7. Alcohol: All participants must strictly follow Glasgow’s alcohol rules – no alcohol allowed within Queens Park, en route to Hampden, or within the stadium grounds.

    8. Safety: Please do not bring flares, fireworks or other such devices to the protest as this would jeopardise the march, as well as the safety of your fellow supporters.

    9. Dispersal: Upon completion of our protest, please leave the protest area in and around Hampden promptly and safely once instructed by the marshals.

    10. The very best of behaviour is expected from all participants, there will be many families with small children in attendance, so please be mindful of that at all times and show respect and due consideration for those around you.

  21. Ticketus have withdrawn their commitment to funding a takeover bid for Rangers.

The firm, who funded Craig Whyte’s takeover of the Ibrox club last year, had been part of Paul Murray’s attempts to take control of Rangers.

But Ticketus have pulled out due to the uncertainty over the club’s future in the wake of a 12-month transfer ban.

Meanwhile, Murray has been in discussions with Brian Kennedy about forming a joint-bid for Rangers.

“Paul Murray and the Blue Knights have the interests of the club at heart and we wish them well as they continue to try to secure the best outcome for the club and its fans”

    Ticketus

Kennedy had an initial bid rejected and was told his most recent verbal offer was not acceptable by the club’s administrators while Murray’s Blue Knights consortium and rival bidder American Bill Miller having been trying to achieve preferred bidder status.

A Scottish FA judicial panel this week handed Rangers a year-long transfer embargo and several fines relating to charges of rule breaches, although the club are in the process of appealing the verdict.

It is believed the ban on registering players over the age of 18 and emerging details about player contracts have made the bid proposition less attractive to Ticketus, along with potential changes to Scottish Premier League rules

The squad agreed temporary wage cuts and release clauses in March, the club having appointed Duff & Phelps as administrators in February.

Figures released by Duff & Phelps earlier this month revealed Ticketus were owed around £27m after they helped fund Whyte’s takeover in return for future season ticket revenues.

Murray had always thought it best to keep Ticketus onside as the Blue Knights worked towards a bid that included offering a company voluntary arrangement to creditors.

Ticketus had also held discussions with Singaporean Bill Ng but he pulled out of the bidding process.

Bill Miller remains in the frame, however, with the American’s plans including an asset transfer to a new company and an attempt at a CVA to settle the debts of the existing business before combining the two.

A Ticketus spokesman said: “Ticketus is no longer able to play a role in the [Blue Knights] consortium’s bid for The Rangers Football Club plc at this stage.

“Ticketus first and foremost has a duty to its investors to protect the investment that it currently has in the club. Rangers boss Ally McCoist welcomed the news of Kennedy and Murray’s potential partnership and the manager has been told by Duff & Phelps they are close to striking a deal with a potential purchaser, who has not been specified.
