Whyte is still the only bidder and he didn’t even bid

1027

It was theoretically possible someone could have bid for Rangers today but it was always more likely that interim-managers, Duff and Phelps, would get offers that were dependent on a remarkably positive upside.

Sure, if HRMC get their bums handed to them on a plate by the First Tier Tribunal (FTT), Craig Whyte decides to tear up his security on Ibrox and Ticketus forget where they put the contract of sale for the next three years season tickets, even I’d bid for them.  Not much, though, I’m only interested in Waitrose Park out at Milngavie.

There is nothing Duff and Phelps can do about the FTT but wait for the verdict.  It might report in their favour.  If so, it’s game on and they will surely invite offers for sale again, until then, they will have to shuffle paper and look busy.

No one has been able to shift Craig Whyte’s security or offered to buy Ibrox from him, so he is the only real bidder for Rangers and I don’t think he even bid today.  Our old friend Game Theory would have us busy planning for a scenario when he exercises his power in this game.  Ostracising him might encourage him to walk away, or it might force him to dig his heels in.

Game Theory would also suggest we don’t play poker when we know the other guy has four aces, they don’t often walk away.

Pay the man or find a way of telling yourself he’s not that bad after all.

    Guys in the blue tops weren’t Irish? ;)

    ———————————————————–

    The irony is that they were indeed Irish, but regard themselves as ‘British’. Perhaps we should call them ‘Plastic Brits’!!

    My son pointed them out to me and I told him ‘fair play to them son, don’t worry about them, glad they feel they can join in without fear’ and I meant that, but you have to ask – why were they there in their colours?

  3. These last few days/weeks,I feel as if I’ve been living my life out here on CQN,and I thank you all for the privilege of being here.

    This may not be or greatest season,but it’s up there,and it may be the most interesting.

    In our ‘lost years’ we jjust managed to hold on & Rankers still felt it necessary to buy the league.

    Now,here we are : a truly inspiring manager,a young team built on skill and talent,the league in the bag,a cup final tomorrow,the realistic prospect of a treble…and we’re financially stable.

    Today on St Patrick’s Day,I feel both humility & pride in being a part of The Celtic Community.

    Yet again it was suspect.

    Aluko on the bench, Mitchell starting in his place when he clearly wasn’t ready for it. Had to be taken off before he was sent off.

    Aluko comes on and turns the game, begs the question why didn’t he start?

    Edu has played at RB for his country and a few times for us – plays him centre mid. McCabe had a good game in midfield last time out, apparently never played at right back – guess where Ally plays him.

    Even his subs were poor. Kerkar should have been hooked before Bedoya.

    I appreciate Ally doesn’t have much to work with, but all season him decision making has been poor. He’s handled this whole administration situation with dignity, but in terms of the team on the park it’s been consustently dreadful.

    Actually dreading next week, never felt like this in my life before an Old Firm.

  8. Beeb and Snyde both mentioned the story Henr1k.

  10. Have to laugh at all the plaudits McCoist is getting re his leadership and the pressure he’s under!

    Our manager has this week just buried one of his best friend’s and been at the High Court giving evidence against 2 clowns who “allegedly” were plotting to kill him!

    That’s REAL pressure ya bams!!

  11. Re. the blue tops @ Merchant Square….I’ve noticed,when I’ve been in Glasgow city centre (rare occasion, I admit!) I’ve only ever seen kids with Hoops apparel,or the 1 or 2 big bold ghuys wearing stuff up near the Celtic Store on Sauciehall St.

    However,I’ve noticed plenty of blue & orange knuckleheads in full regalia lurching around menacingly,daring anyone to look them in the eye.

    Just an observation.

    From RM Site Regarding Super swally

    I expect Rangers to act with Rangers class, and sacking Ally McCoist one season into his managerial career in which he has had the most difficult circumstances to deal with of ANY manager in our great history, when he has MORE than earned a decent shot with his career for us as a player and the obvious passion he exudes for our club and the dignity he carries himself with representing our club, having been DESPARATE for the chance to manage us and biding his time over a number of seasons until he was given the opportunity, is not Rangers class for me.

    So he hasn’t found his feet in the hotseat yet….who gives a friar tuck! We have bigger things to worry about at this time and Ally is someone I’m sure we can all agree has the best interests of the club very close to his heart and will do everything in his power to take us through this and come out stronger in time.

    You’d rather have some 2nd rate foreign manager who doesn’t give a sh*t would you??! Friar tuck off.

    Apparently some folk already know that Ally will never be a successfuil manager, just doesn’t have it in him. Bollocks. Most of the Rangers support said the same about him as a player, if they’d had their way he would never have gone on to become the utter LEGEND that he is. Every manager deserves more than a single season to make their mark other than in exceptional circumstances – let alone someone who is in their first season a a manager, let alone someone having to deal with the amount of sh*t surrounding our club OFF the field at this time, let alone Ally McCoist who has earned himself getting more of a chance than one friar tucking season.

    If Rangers sack McCoist at the end of this season for me that will rip the friar tucking heart out of the way our fine club carries itself even more than the Administration fiasco. I’ll tell you one thing, if McCoist got sacked and we went into liquidation and reformed as a “new” Rangers, there’s not a friar tucking chance I would support them – that would not be MY club any more, but a new club without the same history, morals, principles, togetherness and class of the Rangers I know and love.

    We are Rangers and we look after our own. I mean is that really the way you want to see Rangers treat it’s LEGENDS??!!

    No-one deserves a free pass if they aren’t doing their job and the club is suffering without much chance of turning it round, but McCoist is far from that point just now.

    He has proven beyond reasonable doubt to have true Rangers class, it’s a pity so many of our support don’t have Rangers class themselves

  13. The BBC story was that Whithey in his role as a lawyer was acting on behalf of a local businessman who wanted to buy Paisley. I think this was a genuine bidder rather than Craig Whyte, but who knows if there was a connection.

  28. Conflict of Interest.

    This is an oft-misunderstood concept. The biggest mistake that people make, is to believe that, to be in conflict of interest, you need to have done something ‘wrong’.

    Not true. The issue really is whether or not one has ‘conflicting interests’.

    Easy example. I am on a board that his interviewing candidates for a position in my organization. After interviews are conducted with the first 3 candidates, in walks candidate number 4. Happens to be my wife.

    Now, at this point, I have not done anything ‘wrong’. Apart from maybe not communicating to my wife as to where I actually worked…..

    However, at that point in time, I have ‘Conflicting Interests’. Any action that I take from this point on, would be perceived as suspect. And would likely breach my organizations’ Conflict of Interest policy. More on that later.

    So, what do I need to do in order to retain my integrity? First, I need to declare the conflict. Being transparent as soon a conflict arises, is job number 1.

    Second, I need to recuse myself from the hiring process. The Chair would then need to decide how to proceed, and whether the previous candidates need to be re-interviewed, or to restart the entire process. This wouldn’t concern me, as I would have left the room.

    In this example, I do not need to defend myself. I have done nothing wrong. I don’t need to plead to the press that I didn’t really have the final decision on hiring my wife….or that I said nothing when her case was being discussed….or that I am innocent of accusations that have not been made…..or that I am really honest. None of that stuff.

    All I would need to do, is issue a statement saying that:

    1. My organization operates with the highest degree of integrity;

    2. We have a Code of Conduct and a clear Conflict of Interest policy;

    3. Staff are well aware of their obligations under the policy;

    4. As soon as a conflict arose, I followed the policy completely;

    5. I disclosed the conflict immediately, recused myself, and have had no further contact with the process in which the conflict arose.

    This is how professional organizations address these types of issues. Conflicts happen. How we deal with them is what is important.

    Now, that’s how it is supposed to work. Someone may wish to ask the following questions of the SFA Chief Exec:

    1. Does the SFA have a Conflict of Interest policy?

    2. If so, is it available to the public?

    3. If so, where on the web site can I find it?

    4. Does it apply to all staff?

    5. Is their an enhanced policy that applies to staff at more senior levels, and to those who are responsible for exercising judgement? This would include the President, CEO and Board Members. It would also include match officials and members of disciplinary panels.

    6. Would this policy allow for match officials to have additional relationships with football clubs? This would include the exercise of their ‘day’ jobs? How are such relationships disclosed? To whom? What limits are imposed on such relationships?

    7. How would this policy apply to senior officials who have dual roles? This would include members of the SFA board structure, who also have obligations to their clubs.

    8. How would this policy apply to the exercise of current responsibilities that may be affected by previous responsibilities?

    These are reasonable questions to ask of a public organization.

    Someone might want to ask them.

    Just saying…..
