Wishful transfer thinking, broken Hearts

953

Celtic have been linked with a whole barrage of players over the last 24 hours, strongly linked in some instances.  While it is more fun to drool over players coming in than fret as existing players leave the club, I’m very sure that some of the reports floating around right now are the product of wishful thinking on the part of agents trying to place their players with a top European club.

For each player you read about, two others will be under consideration, and remember the golden rule, if players or agents are talking publicly, they are not talking to Celtic.  It’s easy to generate screeds of column inches for you, or your client, with a few well-chosen phrases.

Ukio Bankas statement this morning that current bids for the assets of Hearts which they hold security over, specifically Tynecastle Stadium, scene of Scotland’s most famous non-assault, do not meet their valuation presents real challenge to the club.  Hearts are a club capable of generating in the region of £10m.  Operating the club on a budget this size will be difficult, raising enough cash to satisfy Ukio Bankas might be impossible.

Unlike the situation last year with Rangers, when Craig Whyte secured an irrevocable undertaking upon liquidation to transfer Ibrox Stadium to Sevco 5088 Ltd, Ukio Bankas liquidators are unlikely to reject a CVA but accept a lower bid for Tynecastle.  Without a stadium, a Newco is unlikely.  The best Hearts fans could be faced with is going “Cap in hand”, as they sing down Easter Road, to Hibs, with a request for Newco to ground-share.

Wallace Mercer was ahead of his time. Flats, flats……….

Folly Followers asking, “Have we lost the war?”:

“The generals (the club) have surrendered but there are still pockets of resistance ( the fans)fighting away in the background but without the generals support we are fighting a rear guard action rather than attacking our enemies.”

    ——

“Rangers FC is caught up in a bigger, far more political, war being waged and so there will never truly be an end to all of this – there will always be someone wanting to have a pop at the most significant symbol of Protestant Scotland.”

    ——

“No we haven’t lost the war.

But we took a bloody nose.

Sadly we never ever realised we were in a war to begin with.

    But it isn’t about football.

Rangers were just the first casualty in a bigger war, and it is one that has yet to impact fully on the consciousness of the Scottish people.

Irish Roman Catholic aspirations of dominance that are played out daily a few miles across the Irish Sea are being transported into our nation, they are here and they are being manipulated by a community who have taken advantage of a divided and somnolent host ethnic populace.

The destruction of Rangers as the most obvious Protestant and Scottish cultural totem would have been a real coup.

It would have caused a loss of confidence and identity amongst the host community and one that we might not have properly recovered from.”

    ——

“They were encouraged to take up positions in the mhedia, politics, education, public service, law.

If you have a stranglehold on those who make the law, those who apply the law, those who teach our kids, those who provide our public services, those who gather the tax, and and those who report the news, you control everything.

That is what they have managed to achieve since JP’s directive in 1982. 30 years, but they utterly dominate in every important walk of life (politics, law, education, public services, media – riddled with them everywhere).”

Shortfall on offers for Hearts and what owner’s administrators want could run into millions of pounds according to club’s own administrators

  3. #NoToNewco might just make a comeback, or maybe the media, government, SPFL and SFA will just see hearts start at the bottom, like they should.

Wilson was sidelined for the best part of a season because he signed a pre-contract with us. Billy Davies cut his own nose off to spite his face and, unintentionally, caused Kelvin to be less than match fit when he finally arrived at Celtic.

I thought he was beginning to settle into his position and found his pace last season. If he’s going to Forest then I hope he doesn’t stay there too long.

    Twisty/BMCUP,

re wife going to the game,

A few years back, my brother and his wife were taken to hospitality at the game, so I knew their tickets were available (they sat together with another of my brother’s in the Lisbon Lions Stand) whilst all my mates whom i sat with at that time were going, so i gave my ticket away and took my missus to the game in my bro’s seats.

We were playing St Johnstone. We got a corner down at the Main Stand/Lions Stand and Lubo was over it. He played a short 2 or 3 yard pass to someone (cant remember who) and then put a left footed shot (and I still am sure he meant it!!) right into the far top corner.

Whit a strike it was. Celtic Park responded as only we can to another piece of Lubo Genius.

I turned to my wife,”what about that eh? amazing, what do you think?”

    “errrm i dont know”

“whit do you mean, you dont know, it was magic, even you in your footballing antipathy (or words to that effect) know that much”

“I didnt see it…..i was too busy looking to see if i could see where Mark and Nicola (my bro and sis-in-law) are sitting”

“He’s a player we like the look of, however, there has been no bid from the club. We’re just weighing up our options at the moment.

“As I’ve said before, getting a striker in is harder than people think, but we’re hoping to get someone in over the next week or so.”

weighing up options?????? you’ve sold our best striker…its way past options.

    NL on Wilson and Ledley

“Peter (Lawwell) has told Nottingham Forest he is not for sale. His quality really shone through last season and he’s a player we want to keep hold of.

“Joe is a superb professional. I can only repeat what I said about Gary Hooper last week. He is one of the best signings I’ve made as Celtic manager and is one of our key players. We’re certainly not looking to sell him.

“as I said about Gary Hooper etc…”

Some managers conduct their business through the media – Harry Redknapp, Steve Bruce and everyone based at Ibrox for the past 30 years.

Most managers are smarter than that – Neil Lennon falls into this category.

Didn’t get a chance to post on last blog but just thought I’d make a wee comment anyhoo.

Gary was good for Celtic, Celtic were good for Gary good luck to the boy.

But he is no Hartson nor Sutton, while at centre forward or centre back Sutton was the consummate professional. Both IMO are Celtic legends.

I hope we can argue about a future striker in the tones of McGrory, Lennox, Dalglish and Larrson. But Gary ain’t that.

I hope we can argue about a future striker in the tones of Wallace, McBride, Deans, Nicholas and McClair. But Gary ain’t that either.

Was JVoH, Scott McDonald, Majic better then Gary, don’t know but it’s pretty academic. Good Celtic boys one and all but not legends not in my top 10.

We should retire the 67 & (19)88 Jersies unless Aiden or his ilk pops back a fancies one.

    Sicily / crime ..

Most crime is mafia related . Chances of being chibbed are virtually nil . Chances of being chased by a gang of neds are virtually nil . Chances of having your house screwed are virtually nil . Crimes of passion are not unknown.. The biggest criminals in Sicily are politicians on the take . Corruption is rife in local and Regional Government .

  26. Delighted we have signed a big pacy winger. No way could we replace Kelvin Wilson on our budget.Dont understand what some fans were watching last year.He is lightning quick, reads the game well, and his distribution from the back is 1st class.Probably lacked a partner he could get used to.Lennys tinkering in this area never failed to amaze me.

So,we are weighing up our options regarding a new striker?.I thought the options would be crystal clear. We lose one,we get one in.No?.If we like Finbogasson so much, what is the problem?.Not happy with this waffle. But hope springs eternal in the human breast.
